Reese Powell you can use headphones to record and mix/playback. It sounds slightly diff coming through both but generally the same. As a beginner, recording the difference won’t be an issue for you.
me: being excited because i want to record covers her: you need this , this and this me: gives up on making covers because me have no money i thought all i needed was a laptop and mic
It's different if you just want to record covers. You just need a USB-mic that can be plugged directly into your computer & Audacity (it's a free software). I always download the instrumentals from RUclips and import them to Audacity, then record my voice over it (I also record the background vocals) edit them a bit in Audacity (background noise reduction and reverb, etc. usually) et voilà, you have made a cover with no money, just a computer and a mic.
If you want to record covers you can play chords on the piano or guitar using garage band. It might not be as “complex” but it can still sound amazing. Raw music is kinda in where its just your voice speaking for itself(Birdy, Lewis capaldi, and Lana del ray are all great examples)
This is really great, most people just forget all the "silly" details because they are so used to recording and producing but for the little guys, like myself, i find this SUPER helpful!

You can use a Chromebook but you won't get the variety of music production software choices. i have a FocusRite 2i2 that works fine with my Chromebook.
You can use a Chromebook with a Web based recording program called Bandlab www.bandlab.com. Decent software. You can get a USB mic or even an audio interface like the Focusrite solo or 2i2. Both work with a Chromebook. A Windows or Mac system would be better, but a Chromebook with these things is surprisingly decent if it has decent power.
Bailey, thank you for this valuable start-up into the world of Music Studio. I have been wanting to do this for a while but had no idea what I needed or how to start out. Once again, thank you and I look forward to watching the next one.
Hi Bailey, I do have one question. Probably a stupid question, but I'm gonna be ashamed to ask if I'm Clueless on something. When you spoke of the "Digital Audio Workstation", I'm trying to make sure I understand what that is. Is that the recording studio computer software that lets you manipulate/adjust sound, add loops and all that other stuff I don't understand yet? The one I see have all those knobs and slides and other digital displays on the monitor, I'm assuming mimicking the equipment in a recording studio. The one I've heard about the most is "Garage Band" I'm assuming it is, but just want to check.
I kinda figured that out as the software were using the term "DAW", so I asked a stupid question for nothing. I gotta get past the "Guy afraid to ask for directions thing" :)
Check this out: I also bought myself a $100 Gazebo / Pergola (200cm x 200cm) and placed it in my basement on a noise absorbing rug. I left the outside "walls" off and placed moving blankets on all five sides. Got myself a 10M led strip for the inside and some bass traps in the corners and foam on the inside off the blankets. Super easy set-up for recording with my D18 and singing at the same time straight into my iPhone using the Roland Go Pro mix. Call me cheap but I just love my little "tent" inside my basement. Nice and cozy. Love your channel.
Can't I use earphones for recording?!! I don't want to buy that box and microphone because i may change my mind that i don't want to record anymore. So..... you understand? Please reply if possible.
If you have a headset, don't use it. Even your phone works better. Place it accordingly to your instrument. It sounds much worse than on a mix, but will get you started.
I live in a house with my two brothers, my parents and my dog. I *need* a dynamic microphone. What do you recommend? Please like this comment Not because I want likes it just that I really like singing and I really want to record songs but I don’t know what to buy so I want her to see this comment And help me decide what should I buy.
Hey Noa...I was just scrolling through here and read your comment and wanted to help! I know this was like 7 months ago so you may have found your answer by now but I just wanted to share the dynamic microphone that I have been using for years. A ton of people have this one too because it has a great sound and its super durable and affordable! Its the Shure Dynamic Microphone 58A. Ill share a link to it here: amzn.to/2Srwrd6
Hello! I have a mic, Daw, cables, phantom power and headphones. But I don’t know where the headphones go. I mean, i connect the mic to the computer so, where do I connect the headphones?
You can also plug them into your audio interface. Most interfaces that I've used have a headphone jack that allows you to hear all tracks and processing, and there's a volume control to boot.
Thank you so much!! I’m a singer, and I am new to RUclips, I was having trouble finding good, affordable, equipment, but this helped so much❤️ Thanks so much, you’re the best☺️
Yes! But it’s only 1,169 $ the the cheapest it can go for all of the thing she mention Computer: iMac 600$ Keyboard: korg keyboard 119$ Mic/headset/cords/ everything else she mention: 450$ it’s a pack on Amazon it’s called : Mackie Onyx Artist 1-2 Audio Interface With Pro Tools First Music Software, ATOM Midi Production Pad Controller, Eris 3.5 Pair Studio Monitor, Condenser Microphone, XLR, Headphones, Mic Stand Hope this helped
In case anyone is curious: when you purchase your audio interface, it includes the DAW software that you need to install on your computer. I found a Focusrite bundle on Amazon that I'm going to get. It's time to take my channel to the next level!
If you listen to what she says though, you'll realize she's not stupid. One of those simultaneously good looking and high achieving A students in college, whom never talks to you.
Thank you sooooooo much for being so thorough and straight forward. I just subscribed to your Channel based on this one upload. I really enjoyed it. Keep up the great work!
Excellent presentation. And may I say - lots of work and money - even if one goes the cheap route. Recording music requires quite the ensemble and also a place in the home to put it all in.

Ill share a link to it here:

Omg girl, thank you so much for this video, I just decide to start a RUclips cover channel, and your video help me so much. Thank you so much again :*
Hello! I have a mic, Daw, cables, phantom power and headphones. But I don’t know where the headphones go. I mean, i connect the mic to the computer so, where do I connect the headphones?
Try using Bluetooth headsets they a are great especially when recording because there aren't wires in the way
Bailey Pelkman thanks!
UnirePastelle ' sounds doable 🤔☺️
You can also plug them into your audio interface. Most interfaces that I've used have a headphone jack that allows you to hear all tracks and processing, and there's a volume control to boot.
Thank you so much!!
I’m a singer, and I am new to RUclips, I was having trouble finding good, affordable, equipment, but this helped so much❤️ Thanks so much, you’re the best☺️

Where can I get money to afforded all of this? XD
Yes! But it’s only 1,169 $ the the cheapest it can go for all of the thing she mention
Computer: iMac 600$
Keyboard: korg keyboard 119$
Mic/headset/cords/ everything else she mention: 450$ it’s a pack on Amazon it’s called :
Mackie Onyx Artist 1-2 Audio Interface With Pro Tools First Music Software, ATOM Midi Production Pad Controller, Eris 3.5 Pair Studio Monitor, Condenser Microphone, XLR, Headphones, Mic Stand
Hope this helped
@@ramiyaarlexis2545 Thank you! 💕
In case anyone is curious: when you purchase your audio interface, it includes the DAW software that you need to install on your computer. I found a Focusrite bundle on Amazon that I'm going to get. It's time to take my channel to the next level!
Why can’t you just get a microphone that has a USB plug to go straight to the computer?
you can do it but quality will be a little worse
USB microphones are for starters but condenser microphones are professional
This is exactly the video I needed, thank you so much for making this!
Man she so beautiful! I can't focus on what she said.. i was distracted by the way she talk..
@vene no don't we all?

11:58 thank me later 😌
Thank you for making this video! I've been looking to start recording but didn't know what I needed to get started.
your beautiful
XoXo Bes Of The Wall you’re*
YOU'RE beautiful too
XoXo Bes Of The Wall
if you want to record many tracks the same time, by a mixer with usb, or a mixer + a/d converter, take a loke at ebay or reverb
Your eyes are gorgeous😍 (no homo)
Excellent presentation. And may I say - lots of work and money - even if one goes the cheap route. Recording music requires quite the ensemble and also a place in the home to put it all in.
Can You Give me a MacBook ?
I have no 💰...😔😥
Hahahahhaha
Just get a windows
shrediknight I’m done
i have windows;(
Me too. I need everything.
thank you for the information. i am looking to record and i needed to know what equipment i would need.
So a beginner have to spend 500$ to record music
Paul Pablo I started with a blue snowball, a laptop, and a guitar.
However it all sounded like shit but once I learned the daw and how the basics work I am slowly getting more and more equipment which is nice because if I started with everything here I probably would’ve gave up lol
Really helpful thanks Bailey! I'm just starting off with my RUclips channel so this will come handy.
This is the best guide ever. The way you present and talk, it's like my best friend guiding me 😍 greetings all the way from India. 😊😉
Me and my dad are currently looking for a way to make an at home studio and this video was so much help so thank you so much😘
You are such a great teacher! I was really surprised how little videos there are about this topic here on RUclips! Recording my first song , bought my mic...but forgot the stand! I didn’t know I needed one! Hahah, thanks again!
Best guide for recording equipment I've seen yet, thank you Bailey.
Thank you so muchhh❤ I really want to do covers on RUclips ❤ I don't know what to do with my voice so I'm just doing covers instead
Wow. Thank you for speaking my language! No fancy talk.
You explain it so well for a newby!
