They were not made for the format commander, they are at the origin of the format by somme judge and at the origin the dragon where the only one tho have the honour to be a commander (edh:elder dragon Highlander) and I would have ad a limit of one per deck for a reference to highlander

Everything I know about yugioh I learned from RUclips videos crossing it over with other games, usually Magic, but I am still compelled to try and make my own versions of these cards. I agree with another commenter that the command zone in Magic is the closest thing to the extra deck in yugioh, so they should definitely be extra deck monsters, and since they're a cycle they should either each be a different type or all be the same type. There are five extra deck types, but one of them is pendulum(I think pendulums are extra deck)and there is no way I am doing a pendulum. Of the others, xyz and link have weirdness that doesn't make sense here. Between fusion and synchro, synchro lets me emulate the command tax so I'm going with that.
Let's start with what they have in common. I'll leave them at Eliot's level 8, although 7 feels numerically tidier to me. Their materials are one primary-attribute tuner and one or more non-tuners of each secondary attribute. Their upkeep cost is to banish one monster of each of their attributes from your graveyard, and I'll use this technique for other coloured mana costs as well. I'll keep Eliot's commander damage text and stats of 2800/2800, but rather than try to translate flying, an ability that has always been integral to Magic, into a game without such a second front, I'll just have them halve their battle damage *whenever* they attack directly. When they leave the field, return them to the extra deck rather than putting them anywhere else, and permanently increase their level by 2.(If the extra deck is a hidden zone, add a one-per-deck clause)
Arcades Sabbath appears Light attribute at a glance(primary), and his text says that he is also Earth and Wind.(yes, I changed one. there's a reason for that) All defense position monsters you control gain 800 defense. Banish a Light monster from your graveyard:(quick effect) Arcades gains 400 defense until end of turn.
Chromium is Water primary, Wind and Dark secondary. When Chromium declares an attack he gains 800 attack and defense until end of turn for each defense position monster your opponent controls beyond the first.
Palladia-Mors is Earth primary, Fire and Light secondary, and, very simply, inflicts piercing battle damage, as they say in yugioh.
Nicol Bolas is Dark primary, Water and Fire secondary, and, since I removed the evasion, DOES discard the opponent's entire hand. He's Bolas. He deserves it.
Vaevictus Asmadi is Fire primary, Dark and Earth secondary. Banish a Fire, Dark, or Earth monster from your graveyard:(quick effect) Vaevictus gains 400 attack until end of turn.
And last but not least, the big reveal...
Ugin is Wind primary, Light and Water secondary. Banish 2 Wind, Light, and/or Water monsters from your graveyard:(quick effect) Summon a level 1 500/500 Light Fairy token in defense position.
And here is the hypothetical Magic Card I was working from
Ugin 2WWPPUU(the P stands for purple(phyrexian mana, in this continuity, would be letter-coded as H). Arcades' blue pips, and Chromium's white pips, are replaced with purple)
1WPU: Put a spirit token into play. Treat this token as a 1/1 flying white creature.
Pay WPU during your upkeep or Ugin is buried.
If I was going to make an actual Elder Dragon Legend version of Ugin it would be sparker Ugin, it would be white-red-blue, and it would have the power level of a contemporary Magic card. This one is "from Legends" and pretends that purple is a thing. I put him between Arcades and Chromium so that he would have two of his real colors.

Ugin's token is a Spirit because it's Ugin, and white because colourless felt wrong for a coloured Ugin. It's a Fairy because I'm pretty sure this isn't the type of spirit that's a ghost, and defense position because in Magic it will probably just chump block, being a 1/1.

They weren’t made for EDH silly, EDH was made from them.

For Nicol Bolas I accidentally made his requirement "revealing a 1 of each fire, dark, and EARTH monsters" and not "revealing a 1 of each fire, dark, and WATER monsters".

    2:35 what about extra deck?
I think the casting cost could've been reimagined as fusion (or contact fusion) materials and upkeep cost could be something similar Five-Headed Link Dragon - banish X cards from your grave every turn or destroy it.

    • @Eliot_Draws
      @Eliot_Draws  11 месяцев назад

that would be a much heavier requirement since you would need to have the materials on the field or get rid of all three cards in your hand, Plus fusion spell.

    • @kindlingking
      @kindlingking 11 месяцев назад

@@Eliot_Draws you could make it into an ABC style contact fusion. Considering these cards aren't exactly good effect wise, it would be strong, but not overpowered. And you could also emulate command zone by making the card place itself back into the extra deck when it's destroyed.

I was looking at these cards thinking “Wow… these do not translate well into Yu-gi-oh.”
Then I realized: None of these guys are once per turn. You build a deck around them, you can just summon three from your deck first turn, then run over your opponent for the instant win effect.
I’d change the effects to be hard once per duel to try and avoid that.

All the dragons would probably be set to one on the limited list.

hmm, i dont know magic but it feels like you're trying to translate the card's parameters too closely here like i know they're 8 cost but that doesnt mean they have to be level 8
is the 8 cost itself suppose to be something significant, if not why not just make its summoning just related to attributes instead like say a 3-4 material fusion consisting of the corresponding attributes if not a 3-4 material link monster of the same limitation too or even synchro monster if you really wanna keep the 8 mana cost intact so like 1 tuner + 3+ non-tuners with at least 1 monster of the 3 corresponding attribute ensuring the most likely scenario of 4 monsters each lvl 2 each so like for arcades sabboth if it was synchro monster the most common summoning requirements would be a generic lvl 2 tuner + lvl 2 light + lvl 2 earth and + lvl 2 water
another is that it feels like you're trying to overextend into yugioh here such as being able to summon from anywhere including banished pile and out of the deck of all things like in magic if any of these creature gets killed/exiled can they come back freely from those locations, can they be casted straight from the library, if not it wouldnt make sense for them to be able to summon themselves from banished, grave or even deck in yugioh and from what im hear about magic the commander zone is analogous to the extra deck rather then the main deck which makes them make more sense to be various extra deck monster types then anything main deck
overall as yugioh monsters they feel rather lackluster which is probably a given with most direct translation of creature abilities from magic to yugioh given the power scaling but also with your own understanding of yugioh's effects too (not trying to offend you here) like for example making nicol bolas' effect to discard a random card if it inflicts battle... its an extremely beneficial effect to the opponent

Yes I will admit That the card game I am most familiar with is hearthstone, then it's yugioh, with mtg being relatively new for me.
For the elder dragons I was trying a unique thing of revealing cards as a form of tapping mana but it seems like it wasn't received that well.
As for the direct translations it will be a sort of balancing act trying to convey the heart of the card without going crazy with artistic freedom.
As of right now I’m am not too confident in my ability’s in converting cards to other games, but all I can do is learn as I go.

@@Eliot_Draws another guy in the comments pretty much has the same idea as me, its about the spirit rather then a direct translation
im not sure if you know this but simply revealing cards for an effect will only mandate the cards to be revealed briefly if the duration isnt specify meaning the player will be able to use the 3 monsters revealed however they wish after summoning the elder dragon so not really a 1 for 1 to tapping mana here and outside of being a bit tricky in having the right attributes it makes for a pretty loose summoning condition overall
think it might be more in-tune to tapping mana if there was an effect that makes it so cards revealed by them stay revealed until the player's next standby phase and effects of cards including those that shares its name cannot use their effects while revealed, this would make the "cost" more strict since it prevents 3 cards from being used until your next turn after its summoned and then player must constantly keep 1 card on standby in the hand perpetually to maintain the elder dragon and a more strict cost would justify giving them stronger effects too
      just some suggestions though

Eh, its not about the direct translation, its about the spirit of the card, even tho these elders feel pretty spiritless, if not downright boring effects
