I think the real problem is not copying this design, I mean, it is pretty common this kind of behavior even in very big companies. And I also have to say that i don't think that has no sense, because it's obvious that he wants to sell his cases better. But come on, Lew, please don't do that thing again. As Mr. Matthew Moniz says: we are going to buy what we want, what we believe it's better for us.
He tried to hide it the same way why anyone would, to stop people from shit talking all the time. Its a decision a lot of us make when we just want it to end, might not of been the smartest idea but when you are stressed out and tired of it, we make rash decisions

Do a search on Alibaba for a specific case like the $50 later case and maybe buy 4 identical or very close for the same price!!! I do not think either has a contract to use a Dupont product KEVLAR so both are dirty!

@@ElisPalace probably he was too greedy, underestimated people's ability to notice such an obvious issue and his greed won over prudence, hence the poor decision.
It’s still a lot better than a skin. Case closed. Obviously not as good as a full, thick case, but any amount of extra protection is worth it. And it’s think enough to still look good.
@@matsigh actually the pitaka cases are made of kevlar...even if its very thin...it will protect alot more than skins...kevlar which is made from carbon nanotubes can be very strong and at the same time very thin. So it will definitely protect more from damages. Also the pitaka cases have a thin magnet to easily mount in cars. Lew's cases are just a rip off...an alternative to skins.
Mat the Pitaka case has a round magnet at the back in order to mount on the car magnetic holder. Another thing is that the Later case is more flexible because it's probably not real Kevlar but includes a mix of plastic. Real Kevlar is really hard material, not so flexible. Pitaka is the real deal here, in China you can find in Taobao the same case as Lew's with the 1/3 of its price, sometimes in much better package too.
Gordon Ramsey well mr Ramsey, saying things like “because it’s ‘probably’ not real Kevlar” and “in China you can find in Toabao the same case” when talking about these two cases is very incorrect. Later Case IS real Kevlar. I received the case already and can confirm is real. Both the cases snapped exactly the same, so where’s the proof that they are different materials? It is already a fact that they each have different coatings, why was that not factored in to the argument instead of straight out accusing it’s a knock off? And to point out you can buy a cheaper version of the case somewhere is something EVERYONE is aware of. But 1/3 of the price means it’s not the real material. Just plastic with the same art design. And frankly I am pretty disappointed in myself for elongating this explanation. Both cases are good cases. One has a magnet to pair up with other products, while the other is made by someone who people like.
Gordon Ramsey well financially speaking, if you make a full Kevlar Fiber case and sell it for $15, you can’t possibly gain much profit. Now if you use plastic or Kevlar + Plastic, I can see that price being real and profitable.

@@tisjester The phone has a glass back, a stiffer case would absorb more shock from a puncture hit. Also the cases, while mounted, will not bend enough to break, so the "bend test" is useless. Also, the box and lack of branding on Lew's case screams fakery and non-involvement, whereas Pitaka has the attention to certain details, like the magnetic stuff and the branding on the inside. Their case basically says "This is us, this is Pitaka!", while Lew's case says "This is a no-brand from Alibaba", what more do you need to know who's the better one?
In the world of phone cases, they are different.. Its very small, but those differences will make someone chose one over the other. He provided his opinion on the quality of the cases, like he said, and nothing more. Theres nothing wrong with him. Btw, first video of his ive seen.
Maybe it's because, and lemme reiterate it, Lew didn't copy Pitaka? Pitaka never pioneered the use of aramid fibers in a thin case as other companies have done this way before they entered the game. If anything, the only company Lew would most likely copy from is Evutech as their cases were his first experience with aramid fiber cases. Hell, Evutech was supposed to be the Latercase manufacturer as well. While part of me thinks some sort of conspiracy is involved, I think it's more a nefarious marketing strategy ploy Pitaka is implementing thanks to an oversight: Lew finds out Pitaka is using his video footage to a great degree without any permission and decides to delete the videos but didn't account for the fact that he was releasing his own brand of aramid fiber cases. Pitaka, seeing this oversight decided to drum up drama and say that Lew copied "their idea" and deleted his Pitaka videos as they'd be a liability to his new product and went to the internet to vent about such in order to garnet internet support for them and to make Lew look like the bad guy here. Honestly, I couldn't give less of a fuck who copied who. They're aramid fiber cases. If anything, Latercase will have the advantage as it's supposed to support more SKUs, meaning a wider range of devices are supported. Pitaka doesn't cater to every device out there last time I checked.
I think it's pretty known now that the cases are not the same. Lew is just using a $12 case from ali express. His markup is ridiculous, idk what is wrong with that dude.
Post both cases on Twitter from the inside broken. I'd like to see how the fibers look. Shockingly I feel like after the break, you avoid showing the inside.

The Pitaka looks nicer even though they look the same. It's blacker and I'm guessing the more solid rigidness you mentioned is better than softer and flexible, specially if it's not much of stiffness. Second I wouldn't buy a 50 dollar case when all it offers is scratch protection really. Just buy an amazon case which is significantly cheaper.
Oh so this is just like one of those cases(not these cases) when I get confused on aliexpress whether to buy the cheaper variant of something from another seller or maybe buy the more expensive one because maybe it has little better quality of materials in it? Pitaka case looks way better in quality and even sounded stronger during the bend test. This video doesn't point out the fact that Lew completely ripped off Pitaka and threw them under the bus.
The video clearly points out that the cases are different in basically very way aside from the general aesthetic. That's not "completely ripping off" at all.
@@nickthaskater It's not if they are similar when it comes to infringement, it's are they enough different from each other that someone who knows nothing about the product can tell the difference between them by looking at it. And judging by the comments I'd say that point is highly debatable.

As a pitaka owner it is amazing. Obviously you can’t throw it around and expect your phone not to crack, but I have dropped it from the car seat to asphalt and it saved it. I have had other small nics and it has fared well so far but if you are prone to dropping your phone(unlike myself who can count on one hand how many times I’ve dropped my phone in the past decade) the pitaka case is not for you. However it does supply minimal protection from small incidents while hardly feeling like the phone has a case and looking much cooler than most cases especially with the kevlar design.

@Adam A-K We voted for him again. In our defense he was way better than the Conservative candidate. Sorry. We chose to keep our healthcare from being privatized even if that meant keeping our very silly Prime Minister.
Lew was never accused of copying Pitaka...... He was accused of deleting a product review eerily similar to his to essentially kill the competition which as a reviewer, shows the bias he has towards his own products and makes him very unreliable. If we want to address copying, then there comes Alibaba where he could've bought 12 dollar cases in bulk and sold em for 50 rebranded which is not something he should be critized for EVERYONE DOES IT. But when he says that he never liked smartphone cases and that he created every aspect of his case THEN we have another problem.
Lew CLAIM in his video that HE DESIGNED the case while a month a go he reviewed Pitaka case which is identical. There is proof that he set the Pitaka case video to private. That is not all a clone of the Pitaka case is soled on Alibaba for $12 ... that gives you indication where he is getting supplies.
I like how you spin positives to negatives when it comes to the Pitaka case. -Positive: Grippy material so that it will stay in your hand -> your spin: the suede material will turn your pockets inside out. -Positive: robust, hard case, so it will take the majority of the impact and protect your phone -> your spin: not as flexible as Latercase makes it hard to take off -Positive: it has more materials used in the case design -> your spin: it blocks access to the bottom Also, the Pitaka case justifies its price because its magnetic mount friendly while keeping the ability to wirelessly charge, Lew's case is just an expensive Alibaba version of that without the features. Also, for someone who calls himself "Unbox Therapy", that's a pretty lousy unboxing experience.
But Lew's Later Case on Alibaba is $11 lol... While I understand this is a product review, and you're simply conducting a comparison, in my opinion, you're missing the biggest point. The fact that Lew allegedly purchased knockoff/copyrighted cases from Alibaba for $11 and then sold them for $45 after deleting all of Pitaka's content from his RUclips channel. Saying that someone can buy which ever one they like best, while true, is quite alarming considering what someone would be supporting if they purchased Lew's Later Case. For example, I watched an ad before watching this video, because I'm on your channel (the source of your content). What if I shared links to your viewers that directed them to another site that showed your content, but didn't generate revenue for you. The viewer would still be watching your content, but you wouldn't be financially supported for your hard work. This is the most important piece of information when it comes to these cases, and something that (in my opinion) should absolutely be disclosed! Other than that, it was a fair comparison.
Yes I have and there’s tons of channels doing a great job of talking about that. I’d like to keep my videos about the products. I tried to play it neutral acknowledged there are issues showed the cases and if the person doesn’t want to support Lew they can make that decision for themselves.
And if both were made by same manufacturing plant? And? *Some companies let you out brand thier production cases where you slight redesign rename resell with contract legal* No Kevlar in later case though
I wouldn't say Pitaka is a rip-off. Both these cases are very thin so it's not surprising they'd break under heavy bends. The crux of the issue when the drama was still relevant is how the Latercase is apparently a rip-off of Pitaka's case when the use of aramid fiber cases isn't something Pitaka even pioneered or patented: something to consider when you realize Pitaka and their CEO are the ones throwing out the shade.
Pitaka adds extra grip, nicer feel, bit extra protection at bottom and top, better unboxing experience and Pitaka magnetic compatibility. It is just better in every way tho Matthew is praising Lew’s case being more smooth and flexible and having a bigger cutout at the bottom...
It would had been better if he actually invented another type of carbon fiber case as opposed to just make an almost replica of an existing case.. I just wonder how PITAKA feels about this.. also if you wanna compete with something so similar.. at least don’t charge the same price...attract customers by making it a lil cheaper..🤷🏻♂️

Pitaka all the way with the magnetic case and car mount/charger. It's a game changer hopping in your char and just slapping your phone onto a vertical charging mount. The later case looked thinner and he said it was not as grippy.. None of these things being good or bad for either case.. Just different..
@@tisjester ....you seem....incredibly dense, no one is saying the cases arent made from china but its clear (from handling both) the pitaka one is made with way better materials and has magnets inside, the color is more rich and it feels more luxurious.
@@JonathanGS And owning a phone that isn't made of fragile easily shattered sapphire glass is even better than most cases.
G CNTech this is probably the most uneducated comment I’ve read about these cases so far. Good job!
@@MrEddieG93 Uneducated ??? Explain then...
@@MrEddieG93 "But 1/3 of the price means it’s not the real material. Just plastic with the same art design" are you sure??
Gordon Ramsey well financially speaking, if you make a full Kevlar Fiber case and sell it for $15, you can’t possibly gain much profit. Now if you use plastic or Kevlar + Plastic, I can see that price being real and profitable.

You don’t care about someone abusing the DMCA copyright system on RUclips to hide evidence?
I like how you spin positives to negatives when it comes to the Pitaka case.
-Positive: Grippy material so that it will stay in your hand -> your spin: the suede material will turn your pockets inside out.
-Positive: robust, hard case, so it will take the majority of the impact and protect your phone -> your spin: not as flexible as Latercase makes it hard to take off
-Positive: it has more materials used in the case design -> your spin: it blocks access to the bottom
Also, the Pitaka case justifies its price because its magnetic mount friendly while keeping the ability to wirelessly charge, Lew's case is just an expensive Alibaba version of that without the features.
Matthew Moniz, ever heard of transparency, integrity?
Yes I have and there’s tons of channels doing a great job of talking about that. I’d like to keep my videos about the products. I tried to play it neutral acknowledged there are issues showed the cases and if the person doesn’t want to support Lew they can make that decision for themselves.

Not those kinds of cases, those are for blemish and scratch protection.
Bro, your "review" is clearly biased. How much did Lew pay you?
The same amount as pitaka paid you for this comment
When the truth comes out and pitaka is a rip off itself 😂😂
@@pincopallino8176 Pitaka is also pretty pissed that he filed a copyright strike on their channel to take down one of their videos that had parts of his review of their product in it.
The box is not branded, from alibaba. The lines on the later case go the other way since it's a design, not part of the construction, unlike pitaka where the lines are caused by the material itself. Later is much more bendy because it's plastic.
Laughs in 10$ Otterbox 😏
Is ur Otterbox 0.6mm tho...🤨
@@TheArtOfKrieg nah its like 1000.6 mm you're carrying a brick
@@chrisbythewater yeah lol, that's what I was saying. (Which is the whole point of this thin case)
@Black Cash woah relax, why are u assuming I have this case? Personally I always by cases on Amazon for under $15, why spend $50 when u can buy s/t for $10 that does the same job. And the thickness of my case is not thin, but it's also not a brick. This is the case I have right now: www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.amazon.com/BELK-Cushion-Premium-Flexible-Resistant/dp/B07MV1GPQW&ved=2ahUKEwjPmJbH9KDmAhUkuaQKHU06BPUQFjABegQIBBAB&usg=AOvVaw2-E7qMg0TJk8cyBv9oL0t5
@@TheArtOfKrieg nice cAse
Pitaka all the way with the magnetic case and car mount/charger. It's a game changer hopping in your char and just slapping your phone onto a vertical charging mount. I know magnets on cases aren't exactly new, but Pitaka and their 'invisible' magnets in the case that seemingly add no additional bulk or weight to the case itself is really well done.
No branding on a 50 dollars case... Like it's a Chinese case.. Damn
Now the question is, can you get your hands on 1 of those alibaba 1s everyone says is his and compare them to see if its true?
Ya he straight up stole their case for himself using his YT clout to do this
I was wanting this review! Great take, appreciate you taking the time!
Thanks John !
better to buy spigen rugged armor or ringke fusion. affordable price and have a military grade certification with very good protection.
Plzzz think with ur brain. U are like telling a guy who want to buy a lambo: why don't u buy a Benz G63??? It's so nicer than the lambo, it can go wild on hills blah blah blah............. U talk to sense.
BTW I have Spigen, UAG, and just brought the pitika case. ( For different occasions). "Thanks" to Law tho. Hahahahahah
@@yyeverwaxg so the lambo crack easily than benz? u want to say pitaka dan latercase looks luxury? for me it's looks cheap and fragile.
Next month: "I don't like trucks, so I designed one... Meet CyberTruk" Tesla uses the letter c in the word truck, I don''t. Also, mine is more expensive.
There's no way in hell I'd pay 50 bucks for a case, worse: A HARD SKIN.
The unbox therapy is cheaper and better.
@@Reolzomic yeah like 5 bucks "cheaper". Don't fall for this marketing Bs brother, it's just a case in a weird box.
If somebody would copy your products, would you care?
These flimsy cases are just a waste of money. if i'm buying an expensive phone i might as well protect it with a beefy case.
Nah, you don’t necessary need a beefy case, just buy a spigen case, it’s beefy and not that thick also it’s transparent.
My dad had the pitaka case on his iphone and forgot the phone on the trunk lid while on the highway. He later got his phone returned and you could clearly see that many cars ran over it. The screen was broken and yet the phone worked perfectly and none of the interior parts were damaged or bent.... and the cover had no scratches whatsoever.
