  • The NBA today is so soft
    It's definitely not all the players but it seems like there’s a growing number of spoiled brat superstars.
    Players who run from competition, would rather team up, and care more about their appearance than actual performance.
    The NBA Has Become Soft

    The biggest thing making the NBA soft is the refs. Everything is a technical foul even staring at someone wrong gets you a fine. Hell I’ve seen players celebrating on the bench get T’ed up. The other thing that needs to stop is the foul calls when 2 players lightly bump into each other. The constant stop in play ruins the game

      Allowing the players to carry/travel at will makes the league soft too

    • @MerkhVision
      @MerkhVision Год назад +2

      Very true. The refs are way too whistle happy. Although that’s just the regular season, in the playoffs they let them play through contact a lot more which makes for more entertaining games with better flow.

    • @MerkhVision
      @MerkhVision Год назад

      Although one of the reasons some players exaggerate contact and flop/flail is because the refs often miss legitimate fouls and they feel they have to embellish to get the refs to notice cuz it’s the only way to get the fouls they deserve, so that problem is also partly the fault of the refs.

    Back then, not all, but more players that were at least good, remained with the team that drafted them, and retired with them, kinda a sign of team loyalty. Now look at the league now. Players want to form their own super teams just to get the hardware. It's not like they were traded to benefit all the teams involved. And sometimes is a selfish greed for money. As good as LeBron is, you'd think no owner would want to trade him. It's like the players demand trades or will hold out. Even in other sports, like NFL, OBJ only wants to sign one year deals with contenders. Next year, he don't care about that team. He just wants to "buy" championships.

    Less contact ,less defense overall ,players always hurt ,always injured take a look at 90 s players they had less injuries and always had superstars playing in crucial games nowadays the best teams never make the playoffs mostly because the superstars are always ruled out because of injury ,always slowing the game down arguing with refs on every call tho you can't blame them it's to much calls for contact a simple touch a guy driving to the lane 40 miles a hour and if I jump to try block a shot and we make some contact how possibly is that a foul

  • @lxbui
    @lxbui Год назад

    "NBA players have never been more skilled than they are today, and that skill, both for the way scorers are deployed and officiated and the increased space in which they have to operate, has never had a more conducive environment in which to flourish. The numbers we're seeing are a result of that offensive cocktail.
    Freedom of movement has indeed unlocked the modern scorer, but before jumping to the low-hanging conclusion that point totals are being inflated by more whistles and more free throws, understand that this season there are, on average, 20.5 fouls being called per game. Of the 77 seasons we've seen since the dawn of the NBA, only eight have produced fewer foul calls per game, including last season at 19.3, which was the lowest total ever.
    I point this out to combat the rhetoric that today's rules have bred soft scorers that, supposedly, couldn't survive in the tougher days of eras gone by. The truth is that free throws were handed out more often back in the day. Just like the supremely skilled scorers we see today, NBA defense has arguably never been better, either. " cbssports writer Botkin

    • @mj23goat3
      @mj23goat3 Год назад

      Back in the 80's-90's guys were driving into the paint among the trees with regularity so it stands to reason that they would get more foul calls back then, as opposed to today when everyone is standing around out at their 3-pt safe space all game. I'm surprised a CBS sportswriter couldn't figure that out.

  • @mcgiannak
    @mcgiannak 6 месяцев назад

    the players are not softer. They have to play according to the rules. So, from the moment that the coaches ask you to shoot a lot, that is where you should focus, when the rules not allow much contact, you have to adapt to it, when the referees whistle for nothing, flopping should be expected etc. Also, when the profits of the league are skyrocketing, it is obvious that the salaries of the players will too ( basic capitalism), and with it their options, as they become like small franchises. And when the players dont stick to a team for long time, how exactly should rivalries be built? To be honest, I am not sure that if the players back in 80s and 90s had the same opportunities, would not act like the modern players. Now, if someone likes this situation or not, that is an other story, but considering the financial blooming of NBA, it appears that the vast majority of the fans like it that way, so what the older generations think ( myself included) is irrelevant

    The NBA is by no means "soft" in my opinion. It's simply the rules changing, and it's for a good reason. Watch the malice at the palace over again, that would be a terrifying experience for everyone in the arena, complete insanity with everyone at risk of getting punched or something thrown on them. I think that the NBA saw that plus things like the Rudy Tomjanovich situation (the man almost died) and knew something had to be done. It may seem frustrating for those who enjoy seeing players get competitive by going at each other talking trash but what the NBA is trying to do I think is stopping something before it happens. The worst thing that has happened since the league started cracking down on fighting is the Isaiah Stewart-LeBron incident (coincidentally in Detroit...). As for flopping, the NBA is cracking down on fouls because honestly, slapping people and almost punching them isn't defense, that's football. Has the NBA gone too far with calling things that are legally allowed on defense, absolutely, but players shouldn't be faulted for flopping, they're simply taking advantage of certain referees having a trigger whistle.

  • @plainsimple244

    Jordan made the game soft because he couldn't beat Detroit so he needed the league office combined with the politics of the NBA to change the rules putting in the flagrant foul rule for 1990-91 which is two shots at the ball for a foul deemed excessive by refs... over time the NBA eliminated hand-checking after the 1993-94 season and then Jordan came back so you couldn't touch anyone by 1994-95; they eliminated impeding progress...so things became softer and softer and now we have weak-minded basketball.
