We just unhooked the battery for a few minutes and the error code went away. Re-hooked up the battery and now have to return the gas cap to the store. Got this tip from a automotive dealership when called in for an appointment ! Worth a try before spending $$$ for a service call.
I actually went to the Chrysler dealership to get a gas cap, because I got one of those generic $7 Autopwn ones previously and it didn't fix the problem. Instead of selling me an $18 Mopar gas cap, the parts counter clerk gave me a printout of a TSB instructing on how to check the filler neck for deformities that would prevent it from seating correctly...just like the person in this video!
Hey man, thanks for the tips. I just got my jeep a few months back, it's been sitting while I've done work on it (it's an '06), not tagged yet. I thought it strange that with the tank being 1/4 full, it was fine with no check cap light. Sure enough, now that it's half full, the dadgum light is staying on. I'm sure glad I saw this first before buying some dumb cap that won't even help. Lol Git 'er done. 🍻
AutoZone manager here not exactly true. Our scanner isn’t super advance just a basic idea of where to start. We recommend the fuel cap because 6/10 it’s old and worn out and it does fix the issue. If it doesn’t then you can get a further diagnosis from a mechanic/shop. Not to mention the “auto parts store” you showed was (autozone) not sure what you think a $20 gas cap would do for us. We don’t get paid commission. Only hourly rate. I’m not saying all employees are the same but I can say that as for me and my store we don’t just sell you stuff for no reason.
YOUR THE 1ST PERSON IVE FOUND ON HERE WITH A BRAIN. THANK YOU. MINE DOES THIS ALWAYS. I KNOW I DONT NEED A CAP IT HAPPENS WITH MY LAST JEEP. WASTE OF $ . SO IM NOT DOING THAT AGAIN. soory for CAPS HARD to see
This is super informative. I took my 2014 JGC to a local "jeep expert" and he told me it was my gas cap. I told him that's not the right diagnosis and he assured me it was. My jeep is capless and does not show the "gas cap" error message. I know it has to be the EVAP system but I just don't know where to start.
You all prolly dont give a shit but does anybody know of a way to log back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost my login password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Elon Patrick I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
2014 Jeep Cherokee limited. Already replaced that part last year when check engine light came on. This year check gas cap came on. Replaced that lol and light still comes on 🤦🏻♀️
i have the same message of gas cap..so is it ever the gas cap? going to auto zone to buy one tomorrow, but knowing my luck it'll be something more expensive to fix
Afternoon. I have a gascap warning myself. I did replace the gascap, but it was legit as it had a bad seal and would not screw in all the way. Did the 70 miles to see if code clears, and it did not. On closer look it appears my filler spout has some rust or minor knicks in it. Is that significant enough to prevent a proper seal and cause the sensor to trip?
I had the same problem my jeep was rear ended over night turned the jeep on no odors but that dam message came up check your gas cap. I did the samething the guy did in your video I bout a new gas cap and nothing hut I took it back and stayed with my old one. Then I took it to a mechanic he did the smoke test and nothing came out I changed the EISM and reseted my computer and the message is gone so I was happy I deleted the check engine light and boom i was happy. Now let me tell you what happened I was happy before next thing you know boom that dam check engine light pops up again I put my scan tool and the same message came up small vac leak. Imma try running the jeep all week with the light maybe it will go away I hope if not I dont know what to do.
If you cannot find a fix for your evap leak check the the top of gas tank. Dealer broke the fuel tank vent outlet on the fuel tank after a evap emissions recall.
HI thanks for sharing. I am trying to fix the gas cap message on my Jeep compass 2007. I would like to ask you with what name could I find the part that you show in the video that is broken (min 1.43). The black plastic part that surrounds the fuel cap. I think I also have that one broken or damaged in my car. Thank you in advance for your answer. I appreciate it. You help a lot with this kind of videos believe me. And you are right the guys in the auto stores are just selling. They don't really care you or your car. Good idea to do our own research and at least try to fix it for ourselves. So thank you for sharing. Blessings.
Hi sir I have a 2011 jeep Grand cherokee gas cap light popped up, I did scan it with my scanner and a single code didn't pop up any advice? Only codes that came up was my tire pressure monitoring system which I have none in my tires.
Appreciate you posting this vid. Cannot find the link to see the name of the part nor a link to buy it. Can you name the part or include the link here? Thank you

@firerose7878 part of the cars EVAP system. When you're filling your tank and the pump keeps shutting off on you even though the car isn't full it's the vent valve causing the issue.
trying to figure out the difference... The guy behind the counter sells you the cheapest possible solution first...it's either the cap or ESIM. He just wants to sell parts. You want people to use your affiliate link to make money for the channel. Not sure there is a difference. Might want to tell people they have to disconnect the electrical connection and hose first. Smoke on.
I appreciate your comment, but you don't have to buy an automotive part for your car to help support the channel . If you click any amazon link and buy some toilet paper that helps also. The money goes towards gear and time to make the videos. thanks again
Since when did Theo Von start doing car videos?

Thank you. This worked for my 07 Compass. As soon as I changed the ESIM and drove around to complete a cycle the code went away.
Glade it helped

Lmao about the auto zone zone so true. I was extremely LUCKY GROWING up with brothers. An taught me how to not get RIPPED off.
I went to go get gas one day filled up got all the way to the house and seen it on. Figured I just didn't tighten the cap but its still on

What do you use to generate the smoke to check for leaks?
Thank you for this I’m going to give it a try
Hope it works

Is it possible the part you put on is bad, if it’s not bad then you need to have some one smoke it and see if there is a crack somewhere
@@AutoRepairTips757 anything is possible I guess

I don't have a check engine light on, but I do have the check gas cap warning. Should I just buy a new cap or replace what you mentioned?
Without looking at it and smoke testing it it’s kinda hard to say,
@toby did u find out what it was? I’m having the same issue. No check engine light but the gas cap light is on.
Well this is the next morning, after I took the gas cap off and replaced it and my light went off.

Yes. It’s under the fender liner. Careful with the plastic clips.
Thanks best one

Have a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport I hear gurgling sounds from my gas tank what can cause that
Is it when you’re filling it up or just in general with the gas cap on?
Where did you hook in the smoker in the first place?
It’s been a while since I did that repair but I believe it was after I did my visual
Where… What location on the vehicle did you do the smoke?
Hello there. Is the ESIM the same as the FUEL PUMP MODULES AND EVAP CANISTER?
It’s part of the evap system, but it can be changed separately
Thanks for posting video. Thats not 2012 grand cherokee.
Thank you 🙏

I would just drive it
So basically buy your own scanner and still end up buying the gas cap.
Nice video. I have code p0456. Would this part be related to slow refueling? Pump constantly shuts off when refueling. Thanks!
Most likely the vent valve
