    Just a quick video showing how to find, fix, and confirm the repair of a common evap leak in a jeep. After I found the problem, I was searching around for the part or potential fixes and realized that this is a pretty common problem. The rollover valve had cracked right at the connection to the evap line. I ended up using a roll pin and some epoxy to put it back together. The rollover valve isn't sold separate from the fuel tank.
    The repair seems to be holding up fine and the owner was able to get the jeep smogged. The Innova 5610 CarScan Pro is a very helpful tool as you can see it not only reads and erases codes, but helped me with the drive cycle procedures as well. The codes were P0456 and P0455. The other common reason for having these codes would be a poorly sealing or loose gas cap.
    Thanks for watching!

    I was receiving the P0456 Code as well. I replaced all the usual suspects, the gas cap, the vapor canister and found your video. I crawled under the jeep and found the same crack in the valve at the top of the tank. I mixed some epoxy and coated the valve and voila! Its fixed! You nailed it! Nice job!

      Another symptom I've noticed that has resolved since I addressed the issue is that when I would fill up my tank, the fuel pump would often shut off unexpectedly, regardless of the position of the pump handle. However, since I repaired the crack with epoxy, this problem has disappeared.

    Had this same issue on a customers wrangler and it only threw a P0440. Smoked it and sure enough cracked nipple. Engineers weren’t thinking when they designed this thing…great video!

    My wife's 2011 had this problem recently, $280 at local Jeep dealer to diagnose, said it was the EVAP pump unit and they quoted many $$$ to fix it, plus about $80 for part. Got it online for $17 and replaced it, no help. Had another Jeep person come look at it and he found this nipple broken off. He would fix it or replace tank for $800 to $1500. He said repair would be much less, but we did not get an exact amount, so after watching this and a couple other videos, I 3D printed a tube out of TPU which fixed it temporarily... found out the next day my wife messaged me "The engine light is off!" Then I bought some 4.5mm OD brass tubing with 1mm walls on Amazon once I knew the exact size, cut it to about 1.5" and epoxied it into both halves of the nipple with JB Plastic Bonder epoxy... worked great, solid as a rock! The best part about this is that it doesn't have the slit down the side of the tube. Thanks for the video!

    You mentioned that your smoke machine was ghetto and cheap or whatever. On the contrary it's actually amazing. You just saved me $100. I'm having the same issue. I've just changed my head gasket lower manifold gasket and put new headers on and there's still some minor issues going on and I definitely need to do the smoke test. Thank you for your video

    Hot dry Southern NM and AZ desert just dry rots everything.
    Cap O ring was hard as a rock and almost flat.
    ESIM was cracked where it was plastic welded together and the seals inside were hard too.

    You know that it takes 3 to 5 driving cycles to br certain that the repair worked. It could come back. They usually do. Jeep is synonymous to evap leaks.

    • @DantheFixitMan
      @DantheFixitMan  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, the evap repair worked and there are no dtc's present and the evap monitor is still showing as complete. I only have this update because the owner just brought it back to me this week because it failed the California Smog Check. Not because of the Evap issue, but because that o2 sensor I/M readiness monitor still will not complete, even after a few months and hundreds of miles driving it. I have read several of the jeep forums on this and apparently a lot of people have the exact same issue. They say that the fix is to have the computer 're-flashed' by the dealership, or 'just keep driving it until it completes.' The owner took it to the dealer, but the service writer said that it 'might not work.'
      I believe there is a TSB for this issue as well. I recommended that they go back to the Dealership with the TSB info in hand, or maybe try a different dealership. If anyone out there knows about this, or has had this same issue, please let me know if you got it figured out.
      Thanks!
