Even if we didn't need it at the time, if it was good quality and a good price, we would buy it for when the need arose.
That's right, Lowes as well. We actually had Ace Hardware in Australia for a long time, but they have all closed it think now. Bunning is the main brand in Australia, that is like a Home Depot style store.

Rusell old son, couple of questions for you. First, do they have people barbecuing snags on weekends at the entrance to the store ? Second and most important, seeing as they have almost anything available are you able (if it tickled your fancy) to buy a boomerang (guaranteed/certified to return to thrower) ? Impressive upload. Cheers from OZ mate.😀
No sausage sizzle outside, they actually have a sit-down cafe at the entrance just inside. And no boomerang's in Moscow. Well non that I've seen. :))))
Nice store. You want to see some unique toilets? Go to Kohler company's headquarters in Wisconsin, US. You say that it's the middle of the week and middle of the working day and the store is full like that? I find that hard to believe. I've never seen that in Chicago or any large US city.
We have stores in the USA just like this, but I am always struck by how many expensive tools are just "sitting out" for people to examine in Russia. After watching many of your store videos it hit me that you can't have many shoplifters in Russia! Everything here has to be locked up, or harder to get. It's not just cleaner there, it's safer! If you had the theft problem we do nothing would be displayed that way. Nice for you, sad for us.
Shoplifting is not decriminalized in our parts, we have more cops per capita than you, and they are better motivated to tackle crime due to their reporting/financing system. The shop is also generously smeared with cameras and has its own security guys to harass the shoplifters as they can be reasonably sure they won't be shot - cause, you know, no free handgun circulation either. It's not a coincidence or some fundamental quality of Russian people, but a difference in policy making.

In some LM shops they employ deaf and/or mute persons to operate the counters, it is a bit strange the first times you meet them, but it speed up the processing time. They had put up clear signs that tells you that the person that serves you can't talk/hear you.
There is also another chain of French Castorama stores in Russia, but there are few of them in the country. There is another network in Moscow, which belongs to Germany, although they actually transferred it to the management of the Russian unit by OBI 😊

@@jmi5969 Last time I used LM, about a month ago, they had change their delivery concepts to be more flexible and even cheaper, but in general Petrovich has the most flexible and cheapest delivery, and LM has the lowest price on their goods, but as always check price and delivery, and check it one more time. A side note about LM delivery, they tend to be more attentive and careful during the delivery than Petrovich, LM delivery staff can always speak Russian, Petrovich delivery staff not that much, both use a concept where the driver du the driving and the paperwork, and someone else do the heavy lifting so to speak, the driver comes often alone and leaves alone, the "lifter" comes then out of nowhere.
I was kind of hoping to see the price of plywood and other lumber. Right now in the US, the price is very high. I like the wood for the floors and skirting. In the US, we call the skirting baseboard. I wonder how much it is to remodel your kitchen in an apartment. Russell, every time I watch one of you or another youtuber's videos about Russia, I get a serious case of FOMO. I've been saving up and have about four years to go until I can make this leap, leave the US for good. If not Russia, then somewhere in Europe. I just hope the world stays together and settles down by then. Quick question, I have always wondered why the set of two doors? Are people worried about burglars, is that what the heavy steel doors are for? I don't recall people talking about the fear of being broken in, and they are everywhere. Cheap apartment in not so good areas as well as the nicer neighborhoods. I assume all those jars are for canning and pickling. At the dachas, they do it a lot.
Metal doors appeared in 90-s after the collapse of the ussr when crimes skyrocketed . At that time there was a high chance to be burgled . Now -not so much . Now it is more for insulation purpose . The corridors in the buildings are cold in winter . But nowadays people usually put one door but very thick .
America is infamous for using plywood even for the walls, here it's not that ubiquitous. But since we produce all this wood, it's certainly cheaper than over there. As for the double doors, it's an ages-old heat conservation technique. 30 years ago it would've been also an anti-burglar solution for those who can't afford steel doors, but this has faded since. People still like the weight and sturdiness of a good steel door, but not because they expect it to become practically important. As far as neighborhoods go, they're practically nonexistent in Russia. You might find a house or two in some posh central Moscow where solely descendants of ministers live and interact, or some remote backwater filled to the brim by immigrants from Central Asia that try to corrupt few local authorities and establish their own tribal lifestyle, but that'd be cherrypicking. We don't know the concept of a good or bad neighborhood, even the outskirts of huge cities like Moscow's Kommunarka may sometimes rival them in cleanliness and order.
@@tatianapreobrazhenskaya9777 Thank you. I have heard of the heat conservation idea. I just wondered if it was more for traditions or if there was still a purpose.
@@westernwanderer8397 Double doors do not let in sounds. My neighbors have one door, and when I pass by their apartment, I can sometimes hear their conversations.

Because the French do what they want, see what happens when the French don't like something :)

It's cool video! What did you buy there?

Glass jars are for making canned food, vegetables etc.
Thanks. I think being summertime, and everyone at their dachas are harvesting fruits vegetables right now and need them. That might explain the jars of jam my wife keeps getting given at work.
