I love the Capri. I've wanted one since I was 12yrs old. I finally got a 1970 model 3yrs ago(40yrs later). Mine is engineered with a 5.0l V8, 5spd manual. It needs some work, my struggles with depression and alcohol addiction have kept me from getting it on the road, but it's in my garage looking beautiful. I'm sober now and going to get into it this summer. Thanks for showing this beautiful example.

Caprilover, thank you for your comment and as lovers of cars we appreciate too that our cars become our safe haven and provides us with a focus on what makes us happy. Your Capri sounds amazing and It sounds like too your Capri saved you! I also wanted to take a moment to personally thank for watching my videos and subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it. As you may have seen in my videos that my intention is to showcase not only the beautiful car and really give the owner of the car (the caretaker as Jay Leno rightly says) the opportunity to share their story, love and passion for their car. Thanks again Kevin.

Wouter, you said it beautifully. It is so true.. I still recall one of my friends dads getting the car and he opted for the 2L Ghia model at the time and I could not keep my eyes off the car. To this day, the Capri stands out above the rest and steals everybody’s heart when Phil shows up at car shows with her. I've owned a few second hand examples only one Mark 1 (1973 model) I regret having to sell that ...look long story short I'm saving for a Mark 3 before they go from costing a lot to too much .
My first car was a Capri and my last car will be a Capri. Ford really got the shape right with this car.

Great post, thanks. I had a December '72 car in the metallic green colour (not BRG in the UK) with that tan interior. Mine was a 3.0 GXL which had the "Essex" V6 instead of the Koln 2.6 V6. This was the third version of the Series 1 V6 Capri in the UK and was also made in the Koln factory, being a RHD car for the UK market. The wheels were a nice steel type, as shown on the Mk. 3 Cortina in your video.

I bought a blue 6 cyc in 1972. I loved the car and how easy it was to maintain. I remember having to remove the radiator and just walking it down the street to be repaired. Had it back in the car in 2 hrs. Used to take it to the race at Watkins Glen for the US grand prix each year and slept in it....great memories....

Kudos to the owner for his dedication to preserving this great little car from the golden age of automobiles. You rarely come across people with this level of commitment to a car.
My brother and I bought a rusty, baby blue 1974 Capri in the mid 1980s for a couple of hundred dollars. It ran, but the 2.8 V-6 always had low oil pressure. Thankfully, my dad had a shop where we could tear the car down and address a lot of issues (mostly rust, thanks to the Ontario winters). Rented a sand blaster and learned how to braze using an oxy-acetylene torch to patch the rotted areas, and replaced the rotted front fenders with aftermarket fibre glass ones that were available at the time. A buddy had a good running 2.6 V-6 from a 1973 Capri that replaced the 2.8, and we replaced the clutch and repainted the engine bay while the motor was out. Installed an aftermarket glass sunroof from Canadian tire, and had the car painted fire engine red to conclude the project. Kept the car for about 5 years. Great learning experience, and a fun car to drive, as well as being gorgeous to look at.

It was 5 yrs old but back then, seemed like it was a used car whereas now a 5 yr old car seems like new almost being used... It was a slow 4 banger automatic . Sis, got a 73 too, 6 cylinder Brazilian built standard and was screamer!!! :)

Hello, Lovely car. Perhaps in the USA Ford was not on the capri, but... if you look at any pictures of the Mark 1 from Europe, they all had F O R D across the front of the Bonnett (Hood). And I also remember that from my fathers dark blue MK1, That was a 4 Cyl 1.6 4 speed, Thirsty but lovely to drive, Just treat the back of it woth respect and it will treat you with the same. I actually liked the Grillls in front of the back wheels, gave character. They had 2 wing mirrors twoards the front of the wings.

It just blows my mind even thinking about it that Phil (like you) bought this car and still managed to hold on to her all these years. There is always that special bond between a man and his car that just continues to get stronger with each passing year. Speaking of bonds.. My high school graduation present was a new, dark green 71 Capri 2000. I drove it back and forth several times between my home in Fresno, CA and college at the University of South Dakota. I increased the power in stages, starting with an Offenhauser dual port two bbl intake, then to an Offy 4 bbl intake with Holley 390 cfm carb, and finally to an Ak Miller turbocharger. While in South Dakota a friend converted the windshield washer into a water/methanol system. Between the H2O injection and aviation fuel which we could buy back then it was a screamer. After college I drove it to medical school in Guadalajara, Mexico. After 10 years and about 110,000 miles I sold it. I always kept it in pristine condition and despite its very active life I sold it for $2500, slightly more than the original msrp. Great memories.

65sohc Late to the discussion here, but your comment reminds me that the windshield washer fluid on the Capri was dispensed by pressing a squeeze bulb in the footwell next to the clutch pedal. Is that what you used for the "injection" system? If so, sounds like a neat idea.

    • @65sohc
      @65sohc 7 дней назад +1

@@martinliehs2513 I added an electric pump and a Hobbs switch on the intake manifold so it was automatically injected under boost. It worked amazingly well. And yes. I wish I still had it. Capri is nearly impossible to find now.

Other mods: I had the stock wheels widened to 7 inches, chromed, and then painted the centers like factory. I installed Mulholland springs in the front and lowering blocks in the rear. I tried to shorten the shifter throw but cobbling up some longer plates to alter the ratio of the shifter arms but that didn't pan out. I was also tinkering, much to the dismay of my parents.

I bought a new white 72 Capri 4-cyl in Landover, MD. It was a hatchback. One time, I put a new 50-gallon water heater in the back. Another time, the cam timing belt failed on the way to work at NASA. I coasted into a church parking lot. The church was open, so I called my wife to request more tools and a new belt. The temperature was fine, and I replaced the belt in the church parking lot. Got to work a few hours late !

Beautiful car; I had the original 1972 fitted out with twin webers and engine work but couldn’t come close to my 72 2600 that we cut the installed Manley valves from a Chevy, cut 80 thousand off the head to raise compression, crane camshaft, headers, Ana’s dual exhaust with center muffler removed and a Mallory dual point distributor. Ripped off shifts at 7500rpm slamming the rear differential into the undercarriage as it walked away from BMW TIIs and Alphas. Gave serious fits to Datsun 240z owners who could stay with it unless seriously modified. Sold it to a college student to take away to college and told him to be careful. Lasted one week before he put a tree in the passengers seat after seriously misjudging his speed, running headfirst to its demise.

Very nice Phil. I started my career as a mechanic at a Mercury dealer in Sussex, New Brunswick in 1979 so I remember these well. I myself have owned Mk 2 Cortinas since the late seventies and presently have two GT models. I used to service alot of Capris for friends over the years because it was hard to get good service on this type of car at the time with American car mechanics not very familiar with the product and the product was in my opinion poorly promoted by Ford dealers on this continent, poor parts inventory etc. I feel that it is easier to get parts today with the internet than it was at the time. While there may be quite a few of these surviving i bet there would only be a dozen or so with a current registration on the road in Canada. Anyway Phil, i am glad you got this car back on the road and know that you are too. I wouldnt mind having my Cortina/s featured on this channel.

You must have had the seats reupholstered. My rear seat tops were destroyed by the sun. To this day every car I have I put a protective windshield sunshield over the rear deck when parked outside-that works. I bought my second-hand 1972 Capri 2000cc 4-cylinder for $600 in about 1976 with double shift sweat money earned in a steam plant in college. It was originally yellow with black interior. I think it was owned from new by a rich sorority girl at my same university judging by the parking stickers. The seller resprayed it fresh yellow for me. Cars in those days didn't last as long as now. It was already worn out and I barely kept it running but it sure was fun to drive. I repainted those original wheels he showed with black and silver spray paint and it looked great. Funny story, the behind the dash wiper mechanism broke and I somehow replaced it with one from the junkyard- a hard job. Two days later, out of the clear blue sky, Ford somehow found me with a letter recalling the car for that very thing and offered a free dealership replacement of the wiper mechanism! Too late! Also mine had no front bumper so I was embarrassed by that driving it in college. I looked high and low for a bumper (pre internet days) with no luck. Honestly though it didn't look that bad without it. My dad, tongue in cheek, said, why don't you make a wooden bumper. Not funny.

I had a 72...I wouldn't call it beautiful like this one, lol. It had a 1.6 Kent in it originally, with the optional rear gear 3.45, "GT" model. I stuck a drivetrain from a 76, 2.8 V6, manual trans. Chucked a Holley 500 2bbl carb and headers. Zippy enough for the day.

That's an awesome story, thanks for sharing!
I also wanted to take a moment to personally thank for taking the time to watching my videos, leaving a comment and for subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it.
My intention when creating these videos is to showcase not only the beautiful car but give the owner an opportunity to share their story, love and passion for their car. Thanks again Kevin.

GBS, don’t you wish you still had her. Especially when you see videos like this with Phil being the original owner.
