I have watched other channels use the same hatchet knot to tie their bags. In order to open you need a hatchet ( or knife). I just assumed that a shoe string knot didn't work to hold bag closed when transporting to car or campsite. Around me nobody uses bags. Great money saver for you and easier for the customer 👍
That is an EXCELLENT Idea Dan. Just a little refined way to do it. Like 1 of your Subscribers said place a TRASH container where you sell your bagged wood. Excellent idea also. I would use a Plastic one to put the used bags in and a sign saying Recycling is Welcome. Great Video as usual. Cutting some Locust up today. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg.
When I still did firewood, I had a place where I could buy used onion and potato bags real cheap. Never got many returns but my regulars would comment on the many different types of printing and artwork on the bags. Thay literally came all over North & South America. They made for good conversation starters, and I think helped sales.
hi there i saw the bow tie and often wondered about that , its a win win , keeps the cost down witch can be passed on . keeping the price lower makes you more conpetive with the wrap bundles , also gives the consumer a good feeling by recycling .good move , john
Very good thought, I found it handy to supply a plastic sock full of rip chips ( long chips) with a little instruction for fire starter, under the pile then started
Great tip. Thanks Dan. At almost 60 cents a bag, it adds up over time. Where do you get the bags, Northern Woodsman? Sheib talked me into getting them from Globe bag Co. No fancy label but cheaper.👍
Something else is they stretch out a little after each use. The customer is likely to get an extra stick making it better for both you and your costumers. Great video.
🤣 This was just a conversation we had this week. We have had some people return the bags but they are always cut and unusable! Thanks for proving the shoelace tie does work🤣 Ya know we talked about it and I still forgot and tied all the bags I did the double knot way yesterday🤦🏼♂️ Great info Dan👍🏻👍🏻
Perhaps add a few sticks of kindling in each bag to make lighting the fire easy and convenient? You could also put in a simple flyer with details of your business, mentioning the bag recycling, the kindling etc (they can use the paper to light the fire too!)
Amazing what a fella thinks of all of a sudden to make some thing work better. And then say to your self, why didn’t I think of that before. Great job.
You could put a little mark on the bags somewhere with a sharpie so you could just see how many times you have reused the bag. That might be interesting over time. I bet it would be a lot of 2 times, and a couple of 3's, but rarely a 4.
I use the same bags. I actually stopped tying the drawstring at all, I just pull the drawstring up now. Does not seem to affect the customers. I do have some repeat customers who occasionally return the bags and I re-use them.
I've been using an ez bagger for several years now and love it, but I'm thinking I may buy the wolf ridge bagger because I like the vertical orientation of it. My customers also return the bags and I love that. I've probably head several hundred bags returned and re-used this last summer alone. Also, the bags at GlobeBag are significantly cheaper than the northern woodsman bags. They don't have the firewood label but switching to them has not effected my sales in any way whatsoever Great tip with the tying btw, luckily that's how I was doing it anyway so that explains why I had so many returns, but I never thought of it!
Did you notice the smaller bags from Globe affect the amount of wood per bundle? I get the yellow 18x25 .75 cubic foot bundle bags now from Northern woodsmen. Looks like the 1/2 bushel are 15x25 from globe.
@@gavintaylor761 the bags from globe are quite a bit bigger, and stretchier. 24x24 I believe. There's a bit of extra space and sag in the globe bags when adding the exact same amount of wood, but my sales were not affected whatsoever and customers love the bags just the same. Literally made no difference other than it costs me way less money per bag
It is a great thing that your customers return bags! Just because you learned a sometime how to tie your shoes😂😂😂!, all kidding a side, great job!, place a recycling bin out, and have either a discount or deposit, system going, and see what happens!
BACK AROUND 11 MONTHS OR SO, DAN DID A VIDEO ON SPLIT SIZES CALLED " BIG SPLITS SMALL SPLITS. BIG AND SMALL I SPLIT THEM ALL " I HOPE THIS HELPS... Thank you! That's what I try for. I already knew about the small diameter pieces being desirable and I bundle a mix of spruce and ash. Can't keep up on busy weekends...👍👍
I only have one stand, and yeah I have a few other stacks for stand wood. Also now with temps dropping I'll start putting more Oak out which I have stacked in a different location.
Built our house here 10 years ago....haven't once seen a snake anywhere. Not sure why, but nope...no snakes in the wood stacks. Had a bat once though...lol
OOOHHHH, TIE A LITTLE RIBBON ROUND THE OLE OAK BAG. TROW A COUPLE MORE IN, SO THAT IT WON'T SAG... IT WON'T SAG... NOW THE WHOLE DANG HOOD IS CHEERIN', AND I CAN'T BELIEVE I SEE... A HUNDRED YELLOW BAGS ROUND THE OLE WOOD STAND... STAY COOL BROTHER... PEACE...
I drilled into this one and started shaving the nail back hoping it'll grow out quicker, but 6 months is about what I figured...lol...it doesn't hurt much anymore.
Good tip on the bags Dan. Maybe place an empty trash can at the stand with a sign “recycle empty bags here”.
NICE...
Genius doesn’t means complicated! Amazing simple decision👍
Paying attention to details - saves money. Nice job Dan. Stay safe.
That is a very good tip you should leave a sign saying We Appreciate the return of the bags, Thank You!
People bringing back the bags to reuse them is great 👍 it also means you have good repeat customers. Good tip for the draw strings
That’s cool people are returning them!👍👍
Loop swoop and pull Dan!!!! That's great folks are recycling the bags and ya can save a few cents on your end each time. Cheers buddy💪
Good tip, Dan 😁👍
AS LONG AS IT'S... NOT... THE TIP OF A BOOT... IT'S A GOOD TIP
when you tied the first bag i got it.
That's great to be able to reuse the returned bags! Recycling and cutting cost. 👍Terry
Smart thinking Dan! Good stuff!
Smart way of closing - good of you to keep your eyes open for the customers. Stay safe.
Great that customers are returning the bags. Helps both parties!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Great idea, Dan. I noticed the bow tie knot on the first one before you explained it.
Bill
Smart idea sir. That’s awesome that people bring backs some of the bags.
I think that’s a great idea to have a “recycle bag here” sign. Responsible people will gladly comply. Love the idea. Have a productive day everyone!

Pure genius, which is a surprise from you. LOL! Just goes to show you don't wear your cheese head too tight. Have a great weekend.

You could put a small mark on the used bags to see if they come back again, if they do add another mark
Tying the knot?? Won't Amanda get upset?🙃😂 I have been doing the shoelace style when I got my WR bagger. See 'ya soon.

Someone suggested not even tying them at all which has me thinking if that'd work...might try it...lol
Great idea! I've been wondering if I should be tieing our bags this way. I wasn't thinking that anyone would bring them back.

Do you think a sign and a dedicated receptacle, at your wood stand, for bag returns will encourage more bag recycling?
You could put up a sign that says something like, "Return the bags and I'll reuse them!!" People might like that notion of reuse.
Obviously not with this batch of bags, but are you seeing the bags degrade due to UV exposure? Are the yellow bags a different material than the red?
I use the same bags. I actually stopped tying the drawstring at all, I just pull the drawstring up now. Does not seem to affect the customers. I do have some repeat customers who occasionally return the bags and I re-use them.
Big Dan 👍👍🇺🇸
Great info!!
Many thanks!!
Ya I tied the way I tie my shoes, it still easy to grab
Hey Dan, need to have a contest on what was the first words out of your mouth when you hit your thumb! 😊

Check with your supplier for a few pennies more you can get UV bags
You should do a video explaining what you did to make more money.
'How to Make Bank!'
Well that is good...

I usually try to keep them around 16" or as close to that as possible.

@@gringopines3476 Thank you! Will do 👍👍
Are the yellow bags bigger then the reds?
Nope, same size...1 cubic foot
I wrap about 10000 bundles a year with a wolf ridge wrapper how much do bags cost you and what do you think is faster bags or wrapping
I just make my bags up as I need them so I'm not too concerned over how long it takes me....usually only making 4 - 8 at a time.
It doesn’t look like you have enough wood for your stand ,unless you have more sheds . How many stands do you have? We have yet to do bags here
I only have one stand, and yeah I have a few other stacks for stand wood. Also now with temps dropping I'll start putting more Oak out which I have stacked in a different location.
What's the difference between the yellow and red bags??
Nothing other than the color...each are 1.0 cubic foot bags.
@@Back40Firewood figured but it came off like a big difference lol.
@@jimmieburleigh9549 it's better to be color blind... then you can say " it's all the same to me, bro.

Thanks for the update in bags. Is your stand just getting word of mouth or are you advertising?
Why don't you put reusable on bag?
Do you find many snakes in your wood stacks?

I believe it's called a bow tie Dan.
You still at $5 a bundle or have you increased your price?
It takes 6 months to replace a fingernail that was completely blackened. Thought you wound like to know. I think the "hurtin" lasts 7 months.
I drilled into this one and started shaving the nail back hoping it'll grow out quicker, but 6 months is about what I figured...lol...it doesn't hurt much anymore.
so many people think we live in a throw away society. We do not. Recycle, compost, and take a conservative approach to everything you use.
Looks like ya hit the wrong nail😢
lol...nope, just had a round of wood smash it.
Shifty another day in the 🪵 yard is another day away from the office ❤😊😮
I noticed you tying on the preview…great idea for the customer and recycling. Ouch on that thumbnail🫣😨
