【Alishan Forest Railway】Logging Train Cab Ride (Shuishan Line 水山線)

This logging train departed from Alishan to Chaoping(沼平). The train changed direction at Chaoping and entered into Shuishan Line(水山線) to carrying the log.
The Shuishan Line was a branch railway that was bound for Dongpu(東埔). Logging ceased after 1980. Most of the route of this railway has been converted into roads, with only 1.6 kilometers in part of it.

This is extraordinarily relaxing - to the eyes and the ears. The scenery is actually quite spectacular. The sound of the engine and the tracks is oh-so-calming, too! The 2 guys are crazy enthusiasts. These logging trains will only transport logs to 0K+300. These logs will then be transported by truck.

Beautiful place and so relax to watch. I wish to ask a question if anyone can replay. The cutting of trees is there any law how many to cut and are they planting the new trees there.
The trees that are cut down in the film are actually thinned trees.In order for healthy trees to grow better, some unhealthy trees must be cut down.

Не волнуйтесь, вырубленные деревья недоедают или стары. Чтобы другие здоровые деревья росли лучше, некоторые деревья необходимо срубить.

These woods are Cryptomeria. They were cultivated by the Japanese before.

There have been some earthworks to extend the dead end - so maybe it was another reverse ?
I found this map citycat.neocities.org/maps/35ali-shan.jpg which shows the route beyond Shuishan but I can't match it with google street view.
I can see the branch from Tefuye historic trail. there is an old brick building there too . .

It is interesting to note that this railway has been a major work of hydraulic engineering before any track has been laid . . .

@@fpk1234 可是柳杉並不是台灣原生種，而且柳杉在台灣其實並不能正常存活，很快衰敗而且無法產生後代
慢慢淘汰柳杉吧，畢竟也不能一次砍掉

Those are water tank. In the past, when there was a shortage of water in the mountains, these carriages were needed to transport water. These carriages are currently deactivated

There is a tunnel at the end of this route (after passing the wooden bridge). Unfortunately, the collapse of the reservoir above the tunnel 17 years ago caused the tunnel to be destroyed. There is no longer to fix it. Most of this route has been converted into a road(bound for Dongpu, Tataga), only 1.6 kilometers in front of it are retained. The Shuishan Station in this video is different from past location. The Shuishan Station we see now did not have a station in the past. After the collapse of the reservoir, the Forest Bureau renovated the route. At the end of the route, a wooden bridge was built for landscape use and a platform was built and named the new Shuishan Station.
20:50 is that the terminus, or still going over the bridge ?
Yes, this is the terminal. That bridge is actually a decoration (for landscape), and the train can’t walk on that bridge 😂

You guessed right. There are very few trains on this route. These people came to photograph the logging train.
