I have the first model in the 2500 size. Got it in 2016 and still works good. I've replaced the bearing under the spool (salt intrusion) and the bail spring guide (plastic - broke while using). Very smooth reel.
You'd be surprised how many people actually think they need 20 lb of drag. Most of the freshwater reels honestly only need like 5 lb Max. 20 lb is for like a 100 lb fish. And even then some people would only use 10 to 15 pounds to fight a 100 lb fish
It really depends on the structure that you are fishing around for big fish. Most of my fish are fine with a 20lb drag reel. I do have a ship that I fish that I gotta keep the fish off.

I'm needing a new reel for an upcoming trip and this is a STRONG contender. However, I could grab a 4500 Penn Spinfisher VI for $20 more (on sale). I really don't need a 4500 and would get the Nasci 3000. What do you think the buy is? Does the Nasci have good enough components to have the right sized reel take priority over the higher quality but wrong size reel?
I think you should go with the Spinfisher for durability. My 3000 Nasci is great but I had a 4000 later that had some issues with the drag system. I’ve since sold the 4000.
The Sahara reel is virtually the same reel as the Nasci, 99% of parts are the same part numbers. The only difference is that the Nasci has a couple seals. The Sahara is $20 less…….

Bro i am using shimano reel from the biginning of my fishing life,so i have no doubt about it's strength and quality. Currently i am using shimano sienna 4000 new model. So i like to add this reel as my next upgration
I’ve never been a fan of the switches for that to be honest. They are awkward and add another step to catching a fish. I just set my drag to be slightly above the reel retrieve or jig and it’s never an issue.

I have had the same 3000 for years now and still love it butttttt I bought a 4000 later and the drag clicker gave me non stop problems until I sold it. I’d get the Ultegra if I did it again.
I’m a big fan of the Star Rods for inshore. I don’t personally have experience with bass and snakeheads but a 6-12lb Star Seagis would be a killer setup.

The old Nasci flexes pretty bad but I haven’t had any issues with either of the Vanford or new Nasci, that’s noticeable. For reference, I bought a second Nasci this week…

Does the frame of this reel flex when under load? I had a older shimano that snapped on me at the reel seat when fighting a bull red fish. Shortly after I switched to diawa bg’s for this reason alone. I’m still a fan of shimano and would like to try a different reel by them and see how it does.
Thats a great question. I like cheaper reels for running multiple rod setups with different weight jig heads and baits on each rod. This saves me having to constantly switch baits and I can't afford to do that with a Vanford price range. Now if you already have a bunch of cheaper setups ready to roll and you just want a new reel as your workhorse, I'd get a 3000 Vanford. I put my 4000 Vanford through absolute hell and it is as solid as the day I got it.

Been using Ci -14 ‘s for a few years now but Shimano has had a problem with the roller bearings failing , this is the second set in 3 years , hopefully the company has improved it on their line up ! And yes I cleaned and lubed them after each trip I’m salt water !
The Shimano finesse reels do have roller bearing issues…. Daiwa reels have line lay issues as do Penn. pick your poison. Can’t beat Shimano smoothness and line lay but they all have their flaws.
You got any suggestions if you wanted a step up where would you go? I know the nasci I will always use now but I’m just interested if you test these things where’s the next smile I would be able to come across?

I’m seriously considering getting a size 1000 of this reel for ultralight shore casting. I’ve had the old one for some years now in size 3000 and managed to catch some impressive fish with it. It’s excellent value for money. Thanks for the great video.
@@whongwapo7766 it really comes down to your use. In my case I use a PE0.6 and fit 150m on a shallow spool size 2000 which is similar in size to a 1000. This gave me a good challenge landing 1kg false albacores (last vid in my channel). If you’re targeting anything smaller then maybe you can go for an even lighter braid which will give you more capacity, sensitivity and cast ability.

Pour some fresh water on your bait caster spool before your first cast it will help, I worked sport fishing boats and that’s what we would tell customers to reduce backlashes

Hello! Do you know if Nasci has SA-RB to the line roler? Could be bearing rust even in fresh water if I don't lubricate it?
The spools on these don’t have enough line capacity imho for their numbered size. Go up a size

did you use the shims to get this cylindrical reel spool? mine has an hourglass reel spool..
I did not. It didn’t bother me enough to try but I’m sure that will fix that issue.

I went with the 3000 as an all arounder, while being able to cast it all day. I wouldn’t hesitate to get the 5000 if I was in the market.

nice reel but if your gonna target heavy fish go with the daiwa BG. same price but the reel is aluminum and will not twist and flex
