Mark Nichols that ain’t technically true. A better way to put it is that they’ll think about you for a second and move on. What should be focused on is that it doesn’t matter what they think and you just do you. The whole idea that people aren’t thinking about you because they’re too busy with themselves is a comforting lie. This is coming from personal experience plus I know psychology. I suppose I should add that it is true many people overestimate how much they’re actually being judged. Doesn’t mean they aren’t judging. That’s why I say just focus more on you and do the best you can.
Sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb forgot my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
I had to come back to this video, as a beginner myself, this is my first year of running properly and understanding and applying the basics. This video taught me a lot. I found out how to calculate my paces through your tips and make my own running plans. Hopefully you’re making a full comeback soon! Good luck for GTC
I just run a 19:40 parkrun PB during my marathon training block. I am running 50 miles a week and my first marathon is in 8 weeks. Hopefully I can go sub 3:20 as well.
Very honest, i really enjoy your content and love how passionate you and Ben are about running. You both help keep me going when motivation is low (like now) ....videos are becoming better than Ben's ;)
To be fair, for me I don't know if it's so much about the quality but about getting a slightly different perspective. Checking out other channels is a good idea even if you watch a lot of one of them. And Sarah's channel feels familiar but fresh.
Fantastic video- really helpful advice! From one Sarah to another, keep up the content- really inspiring to see female trail runners posting videos- thank you!
Don't forget to do a speed session on the track or spints for time during a run ! 400's or 800's are good 12× 800 at 3:00 min. for 3h marathon 3: 10-15 for you to improve. Even sprint the straights and jogg the turns and reverse directions for muscle balance! Do year round once or twice a month!
The south west coastal path is gorgeous! I think you'll love it. Great to hear your running story, always interests me the many different ways people get into running
Well done!We did the same marathon in Frankfurt, last year!Great experience,my second marathon race as well. There are a few basic truths about running ,that every one of us in a different scale has experienced. The first one is the character that we build.Speaking about and foremost myself,I started in 2014,just for fun, after long non exercise period of time, and I gained confidence that I can do better. Then I saw the devotion and the time that others had and I became modest and disciplined. Now my motto is that if even one person is now running because of me-(acctually more than 5 do)then I reached my goal.In times like this ,when there are no races ,we have the luxury of watching people like you and Ben and be motivated.
Another brilliant video Sarah always great to hear how people got into running as we all have different stories. That photo of you finishing the Centurion is so powerful as it captures the emotion of what you have achieved. Both you and Ben and two very inspiring runners and thanks for all the help you give us all,
Hi Sarah, thanks for posting this video. Great to hear that you started from such casual beginnings and gradually worked your way to where you are. I've only been running for just over 12 months and I'm in my mid-40s. I was put off running for years because I thought there was a stigma, but now I don't worry what people think. I am just setting my own goals and running at my own pace - I just wish I had started earlier.
This is so helpful and inspiring to hear. I've not long graduated and started working, and only started properly getting into running in the last year. I've always been quite naturally talented at endurance running, but never had the time to commit to training until I started working from home over the last few months. I don't know any other 'serious' runners or relative newbies trying to get those times down so can be quite difficult doing it all alone at times with so little guidance, so lovely to hear other people's long distance experiences. Thank you for the inspiration, great to hear other people who have such a passion for running too!
Love to hear people's stories on how they got into running, & their approach. I started parkrun Sept 17 then 1st race Sheffield 10k September 18. Neer thought I'd do an half marathon but ran 4 in 2019 Sheffield Manchester worksop & Clowne. Last year & this had having knee issues add in covid so it's stalled
Some good advice there Sarah. I’ve only recently started doing easy runs to increase my mileage and it’s so true what you say not to care about what others might think - not just on Strava but when you’re out and you keep seeing all these other people apparently running quicker than you. Well, they’re probably not quicker than you. They’re probably running 3k at their tempo pace or above. Just look at Ben’s easy runs and I don’t think anyone would say he’s a slow runner! 😎 Looking forward to some gear reviews which I can share with my daughter.
Thanks! As I am training for my first marathon, watching your video makes me realize that I am going through a “normal” process. Thanks again, especially for the statement “there are no quick fix in marathon training”!!
Hi Sarah, just to let you know that your videos are great and somehow feel quite different to what else is out there on RUclips. Also, you come across really well in front of the camera. Keep up the good work!
Another good video Sarah. I just did a 100 mile week (enjoyed your 100 mile week video), finished my Run1000miles challenge and just have a couple of runs to complete a 300 mile month all with my 2 year old Border Collie. Like you I really enjoy the trails, looking forward to more easing of lockdown in Scotland so I can travel further for trail runs. Keep the videos coming.
Fascinating. There are some (some) similarities between your journey as a runner and mine..... even tho you are young and female and I'm (very) middle-aged and very male! No history of running/keeping fit for me or rest of family - the house was always thick with cigarette smoke. I've been running.... keeping fit... stopped drinking + smoking.. in 2009. My goal? To run a 10k in under 1hr. Lost 2.5 - 3 stone. Did the 10k. Ran my first half a year later... blah blah.. Then marathons.. ran my gfa pb 3.19 (!) at 61 yrs old - that was my goal for the year achieved with first race of year (Taunton, Somerset race). I'm at nearly 100 marathons...that includes some short(sic) ultras - I admire your ultra enthusiasm....and your organised and scientific (sic) approach to your training, you will definitely reach your sub 3.15 goal! I'm 92 days into 1000miles in 100days self challenge.... I think I still have - at 63 yrs - another marathon pb in my old legs. Thanks for listening! Happy Running
Thanks Sarah, it's always interesting to see how other people get started with their running and being reminded that you don't have to be super human to be able to run 👍
So interesting Sarah ! Thank you for sharing. I train for my first marathon in the fall 2021. I did 5 half marathon since January. Working on my resistance in long distance and fine tuning my nutrition. I did a 30 Km 2 weeeks ago and had a hard time finishing it....missed fuel 🤷🏼♀️thank you for your videos on fuel. I understand now that I have to fuel as I run...
Enjoying listening to your journey-I’m an older newish runner and enjoy my sport-have endured injuries which has made me rethink my strategy- Now include Pilates & strength exercises As well as 3 running days-probably will never do more than 10km but hey never say never 😘
hey debbie, pilates and strength will complement your running perfectly! great to hear you've found running and enjoying it! and yes indeed never say never, it's very easy to get carried away with this sport haha!
Thank you for the Jack Daniels' calculator! I've never had a clue what my 'easy' pace should be and I've definitely been running them too fast! Looking forward to trying out my easy pace on tomorrow's run. I've recently run my fastest 10K and have my first half marathon in March so really love hearing your journey - it's made me feel so positive about my own!
Thanks so much for making these inspiring videos!!! Thanks to COVID19 I've become COMPLETELY addicted to running, and have spent the majority of my time improving my fitness, weight and gear. I've had lots of small successes so far, and am in the best shape of my life, but I cant stress how important your videos are for the people starting out, seeing slow times, comparing to whats "normal", etc. It was very demotivating for me the first time I went on Strava. So again thanks again for sending that message home! Its so important for everyone to work at their OWN pace and celebrate every PR!!! :) Cheers!
Great attitude , 3.17 is my marathon time from 2 decades ago , I’m just trying to back into my running , as I’ve just suffered an unexpected heart attack , thought I was doing fine , obviously not , life changer , new diet etc etc , not as my diet was that bad , damm cholesterol , just subscribed , keep it coming 👍👍
Thanks Sarah. I would be interested to hear more about your TP100 race(s). Key training and what went well. How you would approach it differently in the future.
Another great video Sarah! Really nice to hear about your running journey and definitely motivating that I can get my pace up/times down with some hard work. Looking forward to seeing what's next! Would love to see a video discussing the typical races in the UK, I've only ever done a half marathon distance and wanted to give the 100mi Thames Path a go but you need a 50mi race time to do that, and to do the 50mi race you need a marathon time..... so definitely would like some awareness of what's out there so I can plan my distance progression and hopefully get to the Thames Path 100miler at some point!
I have to say I really appreciate your good editing, you can really tell you plan your videos. Thank you for the useful information and tips. After back to back hip and knee injuries... I have finally got the green light to run further than 3km (1mile-ish) again.... wish me luck!
You would be a great pacer for me lol I still suffering knee issues but all these tips have helped especially the training plan and about easy runs cause I'm one of them who does have a slow down pace
Ive been watching your channel now for 2 days and I have to say you are soo positive and encouraging and supportive of all runners. I love people that want to see others succeed without holding your nose up at beginners. You have a fan in Chicago!
i love when new people discover running and how amazing it is! plus we were all beginners at one stage! great to have some viewers from the US! would love to run in chicago one day!
Ace, good to know where I could have gone. Edinburgh was my first and only marathon to date, I was 2014 though. I had ideas to keep going and do more events and I still have a dream to do an ultra at some stage but my wee rest period post marathon ended up going on longer than planned and then I went off travelling and hiking the world. I have started running again though so videos like yours are providing the inspiration to get me going again.
hey mike, well hiking is a great skill to have for ultramarathons so you'll be flying up those hills compared to everyone else no doubt! glad to hear you are back running again! keep it up
Another great video Sarah and a good insight. I had commented on one of your Instagram posts about your maybe doing an insight into what kit you carry on your ultras?
Loved watching this Sarah to see how you started and how you got to 3.19 fantastic! very motivational loving your videos so informative and so very genuine and from the heart!
Thx for the video, quite encouraging! I completed my first HM in 2:17. It may be middle of the road, but I did give it everything I got and proud of the achievement, haha. Here’s hoping I can get it down to sub 2 soon.
yes absolutely it's definitely something to be proud of, just finishing a race of that distance is a great achievement! i was absolutely over the moon with my 2:19 half and gave it absolutely everything on the day! if i can get mine under 2 hours then no doubt you can too :)
Love your videos ☺️ I started running in 2018 after losing 6 stone and have never looked back! My goal is to complete the serpent 50k next year 🙈 but furthest to date is 21k so we will see.... x
Rachel I sincerely hope it does. I can’t wait to run it again and I am enjoying Ben’s training plan to much! They are making an announcement on the 1st July I think so fingers crossed!!!!!!🤞🏻
Yet again Sarah, an absolutely fantastic and really interesting video. What a solid and quality channel this is going to be. Your progress and development over the last few years has been incredible!
Super inspiring. Thank you for sharing your journey. I’ve booked my very first marathon (hopefully it will still be happening) in October. The Amsterdam Marathon. About to start week 4 of training (a Ben Parkes training program of course! 😁) and I’m aiming for anywhere between 3:15 and 3:30. Ambitious, but I’m excited! Keep on sharing your journey- it really does make a difference!
Its really nice to see you come from looking a little awkward about Ben putting the camera in your face to you putting it in your own face to tell your own story haha! Great video. Would be nice to hear how you got into running coaching.
That was so inspiring, interesting and helpful. To think you started off with a 2:19 half marathon time - that is astonishing progress! But what's more inspiring is that you've so clearly worked very hard for it - running 55 miles per week. Great tips - really useful and simple. Do you think the ultra events helped or hindered your progress over shorter distances, I wonder?
thanks rachel! i think if i'd solely concentrated on the shorter distances i would be better at them for sure so i guess it's hindered me to some extent perhaps but i've had more fun including them as it's what i truly love doing and that's what it's all about!
This is fantastic Sarah and just what I needed after the Manchester marathon blues have just set in - I want SO much more and this reminder me about being patient.
Enjoying watching along with Mrs Sawyer 📺 Starting to have marathon thoughts again, so some food for thought for me 🤔 Looking forward to wearing my new Father's Day BP singlet for Thursday night WOTB 5k Time Trial ... just on ordinary Jane, 19.39, yeah right 👍
Great video Sarah! Nice to get to know you and your running history a bit more. Very inspiring! I'm working at chipping away at my marathon time also - increasing mileage with lots of easy runs and focusing on consistency.
Very inspirational to see how you've progressed! I myself started my consistent and structured running training approximately a year ago. I hope to have similar improvement as you over the coming years. 👊
Great video Sarah, you are looking and sounding far more confident in front of the camera. You'll be giving Ben a run for his money soon....great work, keep it up!
Hi Sarah. Thanks for the videos. Really enjoying them. Would love to see some what you eat in a day/day in the life videos if you are looking for ideas. Cheers :)
Hi Sarah! I’m currently training for my first marathon and am signed up for a 50k after that! Your channel is helping me a lot with ideas, confidence boosts, and motivation!
Great to hear about your journey so far. I would love that marathon progression myself after completing my first at Brighton last year in 3:55. Just shows hard work and dedication can pay off, thanks to you and Ben for continuing to inspire! 🙌😄
Another great video! I'm only just wrapping my head around the fact that training/racing isn't always upwards progress. I think when i get comfortable with some slower times, I'll actually progress. Good luck on the Arc!
yeah it definitely isn't, but it's good to have those bad days because that's when we learn the most! what i failed to mention in this video is that my second marathon was actually slower than my first! same course and everything so was expecting a big PB but ended up running 11 mins slower!
@@SarahPlace hearing that it happens to runners I admire makes it easier to swallow when it happens to me, thanks! You must have been super irritated! Lol
really nice vid. took my first year of running from 5k to 65k easy. now starting to focus on pace and trying to hit sub 5min/km again. Have to learn to expect it to take few years to get there^_^ The magic sub 4
Thanks for stressing that we shouldn't be comparing ourselves to other runners! Became a lot more enjoyable for me when I stopped doing that all the time. Any other dream races you'd like to try?
yeah i mean i get caught up in it sometimes myself and have to snap myself out of it! ohhh yes of course, i have a huge bucket list of races i'd like to eventually do, honestly the list is endless, especially for ultras, so many great places to explore! lavaredo, eiger, utmb, comrades, cph half to name but a few!
This is great! Can you do a video, or series that describes in more detail the beginning stages of your running journey? Most of the videos out there focus on high mileage runners already, nothing for what it really looks like (planning, mileage buildup etc) for newish runners trying to form a base in real life. For example, how do you do all of these things when you work full time?
Good advice Sarah, thinking about my running ups and downs I can see how I could improve now (get back on track). Consistency and mileage have always been my issue. If I do too much I always seem to pick up some sort of injury and then when it comes to race day it feels very much like its in the lap of the gods as to how well it goes. Some advice about that would be helpful.
Another great video! Since I’ve started properly training I’m hoping to get my time down from 4:40 to under 3:40. Probably need to be a virtual race this year but I feel like I’ve put a lot into this extended block not to try
Great video Sarah. Like your way of telling story. Tip for next videos: how many pairs you worn out and some shoes intro, your veggie štýle and why and how long are you veggie, daily structure etc. Good job!!!
Thanks for this!! It's really inspiring..I only started running as an adult and have done a few half marathons and would like to get back into it after a long break and aim towards a marathon..
When things open up, you should do a combo, run plus explore vlogs, go to really nice scenic places for runs and review the place plus vlog about ur runs
Omg so happy you have a channel now i often watched Bens for some motivation and always thought i wish you had one! I was a runner now really want to get back into it but lacking fitness and motivation 😭 ps watching from Sydney 😍
ah thanks sarah! crazy to think that you are watching from the other side of the world! you'll get your running mojo back soon i'm sure, 2020 has been a weird year!
Congratulations. You do this video thing really, really well! Always good to come across encouraging stories that enliven that dull part of my brain where optimism about lowering times resides. So, thank you! Keep up the good work and best of luck in future races. Run happy!
“They’re too busy worrying about what other people think of them to be worrying about you” - this is TRUTH.
All beginner runners need to hear this, completely true.
This is so relevant in life generally, stop caring about what others think of you because most likely they are not thinking about you
Mark Nichols that ain’t technically true. A better way to put it is that they’ll think about you for a second and move on. @Zion Chad instablaster :)
Thanks for the link to Jack Daniels' VDOT. It proved to me that I was doing my easy runs too fast. Your point proven :)

You ran a 4:05 marathon off of 20 miles a week after 1 year of running? Damn you're gifted
Fun! Frankfurt is my home turf and I will be running it this year
Don't forget to do a speed session on the track or spints for time during a run !
400's or 800's are good 12× 800 at 3:00 min. for 3h marathon
3: 10-15 for you to improve.
Even sprint the straights and jogg the turns and reverse directions for muscle balance! Do year round once or twice a month!
Impressed by your get up and go. Just started to run again after a long lay off, no long distance but enjoy getting out there
The south west coastal path is gorgeous! I think you'll love it. Great to hear your running story, always interests me the many different ways people get into running
but the SW coastal path in the winter?! I guess they do it then because other times of year there are too many walkers and tourists?
Well done!We did the same marathon in Frankfurt, last year!Great experience,my second marathon race as well. There are a few basic truths about running ,that every one of us in a different scale has experienced.

So awesome. I'd love to run the times you got during your not so great/average times. Keep up the great work
Love to hear people's stories on how they got into running, & their approach. I started parkrun Sept 17 then 1st race Sheffield 10k September 18. Neer thought I'd do an half marathon but ran 4 in 2019 Sheffield Manchester worksop & Clowne. Last year & this had having knee issues add in covid so it's stalled

You’re enthusiasm for running is contagious - I’m just starting out on my ultra journey and you’re definitely an inspiration for me!
Great video - it's always good to see/hear how people came into the sport and how they improved.. See you at the start of the Arc!
woo see you there tony!!
I've discovered your channel just recently and I just love listening to / watching you. I find your content very useful. Cheers!

You speak with integrity and generosity of spirit. Lovely to see and inspiring for everyone at every level.
Good recap. How about a full day of eating, or a week of running/eating?
A really enjoyable watch. Looking forward to my first ultra in September. About to adjust my training plan accordingly
Fascinating.

wow that's amazing!! what a transformation! amazing achievement to be in the 100 marathon club, awesome that you're nearly there! keep going!
That VDOT calculator is brilliant. Thanks for sharing!
no worries andy, glad it's helped!
Thanks Sarah, it's always interesting to see how other people get started with their running and being reminded that you don't have to be super human to be able to run 👍
Thanks for the running calculator tip!🤩🥳
You are an inspiration. Thanks for the tips!

Great to hear your running journey 👌 I don’t think it’ll be long before I move over to ultras as well!! Keep up the content 😃
Good tips thanks hoping to run my first marathon next year in February
You have a new follower on RUclips and Strava and thanks for the inspiration Sarah 🏃🏻♂️🏃♀️😀
Thank you for the Jack Daniels' calculator! I've never had a clue what my 'easy' pace should be and I've definitely been running them too fast! running easy runs actually easy will make them so much more enjoyable as well! congrats on the 10k emma and good luck in your training for the half! x
Thank you Sarah! ☺️

Just checked out that Arc of Attrition , wow that’s some mean event , good luck 💪💪🇬🇧🇬🇧
Great watch Sarah. You will love the 100 mile Arc down here in Cornwall. Mudcrew put on such an awesome event.
yeah i've watched so many videos on it, and it looks AMAZING! can't wait for it!
Great video and tips, especially re consistency and easy runs (not stressing what Strava pace says!) Thanks 👍
Wha hey! Your edits are getting better every episode as you get more confident in front of the camera.. Looking forward to the next one.
Ah thanks so much!
Thanks Sarah. I would be interested to hear more about your TP100 race(s). Key training and what went well. How you would approach it differently in the future.
Really cool to hear the positive progression and the actions that facilitated it. Ill keep dreaming of a sub 3:30 and work towards it.
Another great video Sarah! Really nice to hear about your running journey and definitely motivating that I can get my pace up/times down with some hard work. Looking forward to seeing what's next! I have to say I really appreciate your good editing, you can really tell you plan your videos. Thank you for the useful information and tips. After back to back hip and knee injuries... I have finally got the green light to run further than 3km (1mile-ish) again.... wish me luck!
Three of your videos in a row ...and I hit that subscribe button. wonderful story!
More videos the better. Enjoying watching your videos. Thank You.
Really enjoying your videos! It would be great to see some on Nutrition/fuelling and mobility/injury prevention.
thanks rachel, will do!
Thank you, Sarah. this video inspired me a lot. that I can become much faster and achieve my goals ( Marathon under 4 hours and a Half under 1:40)
Ace, good to know where I could have gone.
I had commented on one of your Instagram posts about your maybe doing an insight into what kit you carry on your ultras?
hey ashley yes i saw that thank you! will be one of the next ones i film :)
Loved watching this Sarah to see how you started and how you got to 3.19 fantastic! very motivational loving your videos so informative and so very genuine and from the heart!
ahh thanks so much georgina!! hope you are well, you're running brilliantly at the mo!
My goal is to complete the serpent 50k next year 🙈 but furthest to date is 21k so we will see.... x
Ah Jo that's amazing! Also you have loads of time to build up to that so don't worry! Good luck!
Great video Sarah! If you want an Autumn Marathon that will hopefully go ahead forget London come and do Loch Ness!!
Yeah Loch ness looks fab and lots of downhill if I remember rightly?? 😂
There's a bit of uphill as well, but yes a lot of downhill and some stunning views.
I'm, signed up for Loch Ness! Do you really believe it might go ahead?
Rachel I sincerely hope it does. I can’t wait to run it again and I am enjoying Ben’s training plan to much! They are making an announcement on the 1st July I think so fingers crossed!!!!!!🤞🏻
This is awesome stuff, we're just starting out our RUclips channel documenting our training... Can't wait to see more of yours!
Very cool story. Enjoyed hearing about your running background and all your ultras. Congrats on the long distances...
Yet again Sarah, an absolutely fantastic and really interesting video. What a solid and quality channel this is going to be. Your progress and development over the last few years has been incredible!
ahh thank you ioan!
@@SarahPlace no problem, keep up the fantastic work!
Would be nice to hear how you got into running coaching.
yeah it's just that feeling of not being in control that i don't like but this way it's all in my hands hahaha
Thanks for sharing! Love the inspiration and looking forward to watching the Arc of Attrition training and prep.
yeah i'm looking forward to it too! hopefully will get down to cornwall to run parts of the course later in the summer!
I'm working at chipping away at my marathon time also - increasing mileage with lots of easy runs and focusing on consistency.
thanks susan! consistency is key! good luck with it :)
Very inspirational to see how you've progressed!
I myself started my consistent and structured running training approximately a year ago. I hope to have similar improvement as you over the coming years. 👊
thanks kim and good luck in your running!
Great video Sarah, you are looking and sounding far more confident in front of the camera. You'll be giving Ben a run for his money soon....great work, keep it up!
haha thank you neil, learning from the best in the biz!
Hi Sarah. Thanks for the videos. Really enjoying them. Would love to see some what you eat in a day/day in the life videos if you are looking for ideas. Cheers :)
thanks kerilee! it's on the list!
Great video Sarah, thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks for the valuable inputs Sarah.
Great video, tips and motivation! Thanks💪
Love your videos Sarah!
Thanks for stressing that we shouldn't be comparing ourselves to other runners! Became a lot more enjoyable for me when I stopped doing that all the time. Any other dream races you'd like to try?
yeah i mean i get caught up in it sometimes myself and have to snap myself out of it! ohhh yes of course, i have a huge bucket list of races i'd like to eventually do, honestly the list is endless, especially for ultras, so many great places to explore! lavaredo, eiger, utmb, comrades, cph half to name but a few!
your enthusiasm is infectious - thanks:)
Thanks for the link...very helpful 👍
Great vid again Sarah. Super insight
Nice job, fresh content. Light, positive and helpful. 👍
Great video Sarah. Like your way of telling story. Tip for next videos: how many pairs you worn out and some shoes intro, your veggie štýle and why and how long are you veggie, daily structure etc. Good job!!!
Fantastic videos! Really helpful, thank you 🙏👍
Thanks for this!!
Great video Sarah, I will definitely be using a few of your tips to get my marathon finish time down 👍🏼
Thanks Sarah, another great video. Good content yet again inspirational 👍
Congratulations. You do this video thing really, really well! Always good to come across encouraging stories that enliven that dull part of my brain where optimism about lowering times resides. So, thank you! Keep up the good work and best of luck in future races. Run happy!
