They were the first way back when to have a 14" miter saw. I've had 6 of them in the shop but still have the very first one that's apx. 36 years old and except for the brake no working, it still works well. In the cabinet shop we once mainly used Rockwell then Porter Cable back when they made good quality tools , but when they dropped so many of there tools and then started making only crappy tools we switched a lot of tools to Makita and Bosch. We used to go through PC360 belt Sanders at a rate of 3 to 6 a year, but we just liked them because of there balance mainly. I can't recall since switching to Makita and Bosch for many tools , of anything that is still in the shop and not working, although lots of armatures have been replaced. They hold up very well over time.

Purchased both the track saw and router based on your recommendation. I have had the saw for about a year and the router for about 6 months. I am MORE happy about my saw purchase now because it has performed so well over the last 12 months. My one complaint is the dust port isn’t directly compatible with at least the hoses I’m using, but HD sells cheap adapters that remedied that. One regret and one gripe about my router...
I wish I would have purchased the cordless. I was really worried about eating through batteries, but I don’t think that would have been a problem now. My gripe is the corded version DOESN’T have a light and that problem would have been fixed if I purchased the cordless version. Don’t you find odd that the corded version doesn’t have a light?🤔

I own the track saw, cordless router, jigsaw, and compact impact driver. The only tool I don't love is the tracksaw. It is my opinion that the Festool tracksaw TS55 is a bit better feature wise, a little easier to adjust, and is built better. The Makita batteries are outstanding and last a very long time. If money is no object, Festool's system approach is the best in the business, but after Festool, it is Makita for me.

Makita cordless tools have treated me well over the past few years. I own a lot of tools from a lot of different battery platforms and I've just had good luck with the corded versions of Makitas routers, planers, grinders and circular saws. There's just something about the way Makita tools run that fits that style of tool. They make incredibly smooth running tools. I have a lot of tools on Milwaukee then other things on Bosch, Hitachi, Skilsaw and some others. While I usually feel like Milwaukee is very slightly more powerful, Makita is just smooth and adjustments on their tools are sort of in a good middle ground having good practical features while maintaining durability. I like a lot of people I run into just wish they would put out an updated battery with newer cells and a bit higher capacity. It's not a deal breaker but it would definitely be welcomed with so many other brands heading that way.

I use Makita corded, 18v and some 10.8v and no regrets whatsoever. I’m not sure there are really HUGE differences between the major tool brands to be honest but once you’ve invested in a battery system it’s a tough and expensive call to change it. My only Makita that I don’t really rate is the cordless sander which is pretty top heavy but every other tool, from jigsaw to grinder and everything between, gives me great service.

I've had the rotary hammer for over 5 years now. This is a tool I use almost all the time (I'm a plumber). I love it.
I used to keep a corded hammer in the van in case this one wouldn't be powerful enough, but I did never use it. Now I've got this one for day to day use, and occasionnaly a sds Max in the van and that's it.
Never had a problem with it. I grease it well, blow the dust every couple of months.
I've changed the brushes last year. They could have lasted a bit more, but I didn't want to deal with the surprise on a jobsite someday.
I do recommend the Makita 18v platform ( I've got 6 tools and 8 batteries). Overall, the tools are doing fine, they are pretty rugged compared to, say, the Bosh tools my contractor friends use. Keep in mind my tools often get sprayed with water on top of the dust.
I also love the double charger. One single charger for all my cordless tools is awesome. No more spaghetti like mess around the power outlets and never running out of batteries either.
Anyways, if I had to buy it again, I wouldn't hesitate.
Thanks for the reviews, they are always well documented and helpfull.

I've been buying Makita, Milwaukee, Bosch and in the old days Porter cable and they were always great tools. PC and Milwaukee really let me down in the 2000s and I stopped using them until 3 years ago when I started buying Milwaukee again. Makita and Bosch are the only tool companies that never wavered with quality, I was looking at getting the 36v version of the Hypoid saw, but my Hypoid is still just as good as the day I bought it. Makita is just pure quality and if you ever have issues with one of their tools out of warranty, more often than not, Makita will go above and beyond for you.

Just saw project farms new vid today where makita did very well but was held back because it's battery management system. do you find the Makita batteries last longer/warranty less comparatively? I've heard the "over-protective" shut-offs on makita batteries are actually due to a design choice which makes them unrecharable in the makita charger if they experience of over-discharge down below a certain voltage. This would be frustrating to me because it would be Makita is being over-protective for no real reason other than to cover their butts and create a easy way to check for "misuse".
I realize li-ion batteries have in the past been points of litigation because of issues specifically in charging, but the other manufactuers do enough QC to not be so nannying about the batteries so I really hope there is a tangible benefit to the consumer and not just Makita.

It's hard to explain to somebody who never owned a cordless trim router... Let's just say this I am a professional woodworker and it's my go to router.
I do mortises, small profiles, quick dados, inlay and yes flush trimming.
The only thing I have is that I need to change the battery every hour or so when using it for a large job like if I have 40 mortises on a park bench I might replace the battery twice.
It's not the Makita it's a rigid and that's only because when I bought it only rigid had it. I'm thinking of buying a second and it might be the Makita this time but it's hard to jump from a tool you love to a brand you love sometimes.

I really agree with the comments here, like @BrinkMan49. I don't see anyone else doing this, it's sort of a franchise for you. :-) These retrospective reviews are =great=. There are so many "reviews" that are just unboxing vids - not a whole lot of information. Even real reviews are limited because while first impressions are important, you can learn a lot of things from using a tool over time. I'd love to see more of the.
The two types of reviews that I really appreciate here are the "best of" shootout tests and these "looking back" reviews. Please keep these up. Not taking anything away from the regular reviews, which are great, but these two are a category that few others are doing, and even fewer doing well. Hat's off.

I stopped running Makita because of their battery problems. If a battery fails to charge a couple of times it is permanently tombstoned by internal circuitry. That never happens to my red and yellow batteries.
Also, that track saw is a safety disaster. No riving knife, no anti-kickback, and a very short cord for the corded model. It is missing a chip guard and has the blade on the wrong side.
Makita is VERY slow to update all but their mainline tools like drills/impacts so you better hope they get it right the first time!

I am on Makita and just stared to add some Milwaukee tools. It started with the M18 ProPex tool set because Makita doesn't make one and i didnt like the Dewalt version. So now i am opened to the M18 platform and i'll get the tools that aren't available for Makita. The reason is because i only have two M18 batteries and do not plan on buying more, while i have 12 Makita 5-6AH batteries.

If you need a bigger base or a clear lexan one for the router, the Porter Cable one works. The 4 screw holes on bottom match up perfectly.

Fantastic idea for the vid. Just a suggestion, perhaps consider naming the video "long term tool review" as I initially thought it was a video on how the company was doing after 4 years. I would've clicked on the video sooner had I known it was a long term review. Thanks for the great videos.

I have a couple of these tools, and I don't like them. The trim router is fine, but they nickel and dime you on the accessories unless you buy the complete kit initially. I needed it quickly, and the store only sold the bare tool with no accessories.
And the track saw has a problem where there is too much slop in the alignment between the blade and the base, so after tilting the saw it's possible to lock the base down slightly out of square to the blade. It's small enough that it's hard to check, but big enough to affect the quality and accuracy of cut.

Makita for the Win! It’s just a shame they never took their 18 volt batteries beyond 6.0 Amp Hours!? Makita Techs have told me all kinds of excuses, from transportation restrictions, to not wanting a huge battery on a handheld tool. Really Makita? How is it even Ryobi has a 9.0 amp hour battery, sourced from China? It had to be transported over here? And if you’re running a chainsaw, or blower, or weed whacker, a little extra weight ain’t gonna matter, given the gains in runtime, on those power hungry tools. And the extra weight argument becomes a joke, when they announce their XGT 40 volt tools. Sure, they’re nice, but who the hell wants to be using a 40 volt impact driver over their heads, etc? I don’t know. Always enjoy the Vids, Rob! Stay safe and Healthy and best to you and fellow Subs this crazy whacky 2021!

      @georgedavall9449 3 года назад +2

@@shanew7361 Hi Shane. I understand your frustration if you experienced the early problems of Makitas batteries. They didn’t have gauges in them, and then the chargers wouldn’t recognize and charge them, if the level got too low. They fixed it. Remember, it was Makita that developed/ marketed both Li Ion battery technology, and brushless motors! I like Milwaukee a lot, but have had new batteries out of the package that must of sat around for awhile, and not even one bar would light, and charger would NOT charge them. I reluctantly ‘jumped’ them from known good M18 batteries, and they were alright. I would not advise anyone to do this, however! Like I said, I have several older 3.0 batteries, with no gauges, that get charged everyday, and are still going well after 4 years! Maybe I got lucky? Your point is good on the ergonomics, which is not a strong point with Big Red. You can’t tell me you haven’t had your trigger finger pinched at least once, on one of the Fuel tools!? Sorry! And Mak makes their motors, mostly, and are so smooth. Some of their cordless saws seem underpowered, when you squeeze the trigger, it’s deceptive. I love my Gen 1 M18 fuel 7&1/4 saw, but it sounds all rough and nasty, but once into the cut, it smooths out. Fatiguing though. Best to you! 👍✌🏻😁
