Nicholas seems like a super down to earth guy! While not necessarily a bad thing.. I feel that alot of people in the shoes and clothing industry put on a bit of pomp to make everything seem more grandiose, but this guy tells it how it is.

Ha. Couldn’t agree more. At the end of the day, it is in fact a trade. A respectable trade and one that should inspire respect, like that of any artist.

Great interview! What sets Nicholas apart from many others for me is his close involvement in the footwear community. If only the larger bespoke houses would follow his example of truly engaged interaction with others in the community... Lovely gent and we'll deserving of his reputation! Cheers!

What really shines through is the impeccable quality all round of Nicholas Templeman's shoes. In the bespoke world, reputation is so important, it's everything. Though there'll always be a disgruntled customer somewhere. When you pay so much more for bespoke and also have to wait, it's so thrilling when it's as good as perfect in fit and quality. That's how you achieve devoted customers. Well done 👏👏
Also Instagram and social media has allowed independent craftspeople to have a profile and benefit directly from contact with the public. Shoemakers and the like were all but invisible and now get recognised personally for their craft. The good side of social media. That and cute dog videos.

You big fibber Kirby. You can geek out for hours over shoes details. And I thank you for that. Another fantastic video. Your style really lets the subject express themselves.

An engaging and enjoyable video. The chap Nicholas is a top bloke. Should I ever come into a few bob, I'd happily book and appointment and order a pair....until then, best wishes.

Kirby thank you! What a great interview. You are such a great interviewer so natural at it and with all the right questions. I am a bit surprised you didn't show more closer shots at the different shoes but I guess we can go to his Instagram account for that.
I guess your next step is a series of documentaries on the world of bespoke in the silver screen...

We know how much you love pig skin Kirby, I think those Derby's have your name on them. Nicholas seems so calm and laid back and I'm impressed how much he emphasises the personal interaction of the process and not just the end product. Personally, I go the same places all the time because of the people I deal with and not just what they are selling.

great artisans like Mr Templeman let their work do the talking. others need to talk the fancy talk, because only fancy words to the naive help covering up their lack of skill , so they need to sell their product via a pseudo image beforehand whilst the story attached to an artisans piece of art is written by the creation process of the art piece itself. this is what makes the artisan way of telling a story so geniuine, because it is real and based on and nurtured by their hard earned colorful history as well as the much required insanity involved in trying to be the best they can at their craft.

Great interview Kirby! Is it common to only take two dimensional measurements during the initial fitting process? Contrasting that to Lee Miller’s process for boots, it seems that Lee’s approach would have better odds in creating a great fitting shoe. Would you agree?
