The light dawns... OMG. This reaction... Best of the series! As has already been said, the actress is a biological female playing a transgender character. She's the Caterpillar. "Brother Sitback" is Chishiya (cha-she-yah). Cheshire Cat. He's intentionally androgynous - it's the impression you get in the manga. He's played by a male actor.
I'm transgender and it's not super comfortable hearing Kuina get misgendered, but like, holy shit, can we chill the fuck out? There's a huge difference between being an asshole on purpose and just not really knowing much about specific topics. I'm not gonna be mad at somebody for not automatically understanding something that for some people doesn't come up much in their lives. I'd like society to reach a point where stuff like this more widely understood but I'm not gonna flip out at individuals for not already knowing everything there is to know about this. I'm not going to be unfair to someone just because they lack information or perspective that they might never have had a reason to personally look for. Sometimes you go through life and just don't run into stuff much. It took me until I was 18 to figure out what my deal was and what way of living would make me happiest, and there were times before that when I myself had said things due to just not having enough information that would literally be hurtful toward MYSELF now, because I just hadn't known any better at the time. It's not like I was born instantly knowing everything about a subject just because it turned out to be a huge part of my life later on. People are pretty much born knowing how to cry and how to grip onto things. Everything else we're taught or we learn, and in a world this huge, it is straight up unfair to expect everyone to already know a lot about literally everything.
I'll say it again: we can't expect everyone on earth to know everything all the time. There are some legit transphobes being assholes on purpose in the COMMENTS, but I didn't really feel like anyone in the VIDEO was being an asshole, just... not really being educated about a subject that a lot of people have no personal reason to be educated about already, which I just refuse to treat as if it's a crime. I just didn't see any sign of intentional disrespect (some other random people in the comments were behaving like that obviously, and I don't think anyone is obligated to be nice about THAT, but that doesn't really have anything to do with the channel itself).
We HAVE to give people a chance to learn more about stuff. What would I or any other trans person gain from flipping out and trying to make enemies out of people who just don't really understand us because it hasn't been that relevant to their own lives yet? There are plenty of people who are being shitty on purpose, but that so obviously isn't these guys, who are just kind of fumbling around a topic they don't know the ins and outs of. If you're gonna yell at someone for saying things that hurt you, go find radfems, TERFs, JK Rowling, or my older brother. Of course it's uncomfortable hearing the wrong pronouns for her and hearing her called a man/son/boy/whatever, but dude, sometimes people just haven't been in a position to learn and think in depth about specific things. I don't know how to emphasize that enough. "Ignorance" gets used a lot to insult people, but I don't really approve of that usage and I wish we could just delete the whole damn word, because knowledge isn't something people just have magically handed to them, and a big part of what knowledge any specific person has can be just a matter of random chance. Transphobia is when someone HAS plenty of relevant information, spends time thinking deeply about it, and then decides to be a dick to real people on purpose. Not understanding things yet isn't a crime. As human beings our whole lives are an ongoing process of learning shit. NOT UNDERSTANDING SOMETHING YET ISN'T A CRIME. It's a chance for somebody to learn something. Why the fuck would we risk destroying that chance by going full aggro instantly?
Like can we all just fucking get past this cancel culture bullshit? It's darkly funny that this drama popped up during an episode about a witch hunt, because this isn't exactly that, but it has a similar energy and I'm not onboard with that. How is anyone supposed to learn things if our first reaction to them not already happening to understand those things is to yell at them? If we want people to understand this, then our first response to these situations needs to be keeping our cool and assessing what the situation really is, unless we have very good reason to assume it's someone being shitty on purpose, and I just didn't see that here. Trans people have a lot of enemies already, can we please stop trying to make more of them in situations where we could make allies or friends instead?
If anything I'm impressed with the reactors for handling a bunch of super aggressive comments as well as they did. It's tough to be attacked by somebody and stay chill. And believe me, I know better than anyone that a lot of the people who were really aggressive in the comments FELT attacked, but human beings in general, about every possible topic, have to get better at learning how to tell when someone is deliberately attacking us versus when someone just doesn't know much about us yet (and that goes for soooo many things, not just LGBTQ* related stuff). This isn't me telling other trans people to be less sensitive or anything, either, or saying that behavior that's hurtful by accident shouldn't affect us at all. This is just me begging everyone, about every topic ever that might set them off, to take a deep breath, calm down for a minute, and THEN evaluate what's really happening before you go for somebody's throat. None of this aggression was needed. I just appreciate that the reactors are chill enough to be willing to listen to the people who aren't behaving aggressively, even after a bunch of people just got done jumping down their throats. I sympathize a lot with the people who were super aggressive, but that still doesn't mean it was the right way to behave here, and I also sympathize a lot with people who get yelled at for not already knowing things that probably didn't come up much in their lives. Can anyone here honestly say there's never been a time when they were accidentally hurtful to someone else due to not knowing much about them? I sure as hell can't say it. A much younger version of me said things that would have been accidentally hurtful to my own adult self, and I know I've said unintentionally hurtful things to other people about at least several other topics. It happens. It sucks that it happens, but going wild at someone who probably didn't mean any harm is not helpful, especially when it's people you don't personally know.
All of that aside, great reaction as usual. I'm loving you guys's content, and I'm excited to move on to your reaction to the season finale, and then to other videos too. I'm glad I stumbled on the channel.
Honestly, I felt like they misgendered due to shock and then everything happening in the episode at once. That's a lot to take in, and it's a BIG part of Kuinas character back story.

I felt really awkward watching this reaction. Since the boy with the blue headphone realized the caracter is a trans woman he kept saying "he (him/his)" over and over again. Like..why? I always love when they get into Kuina's backstory and they think it's The Last Boss (sword dude). LMAO I also think it's funny how y'all had such a negative reaction to Chishiya, I know you were just watching and reacting to his betrayal of Arisu and that it's not serious though it's just funny. He, Kiuna, Arisu, Usagi (the climber with the bob), and Ann (the forensic scientist) are my favorites and I hope they survive. I haven't read the manga or watched the anime but if it's like the book Alice in Wonderland I wonder how much of this is real life vs a portal fantasy. Like I'm wondering if these people are dying in real life and what happens to the bodies of the people who died? Does someone come and clean them up?

Hilarious reaction video as always. I forgotten most of the show at this point, so it was great to see and react to it as if for the first time myself. I did know about Kuina's backstory, but these comments here are wild. Nothing y'all were doing was intentionally disrespectful. Yeah, Kuina (the girl with the braids and in the blue bikini) is transgender. I'm guessing she’s transgender because as a kid, she liked makeup and probably liked how girls dressed. But her father didn't approve of her becoming a girl. That's why she doesn't like her father.
And if you're questioning why Chishiya (the boy (that looks like a girl) with the white jacket and with blond highlights) betrayed Arisu (the main character/cheat code/Alice), he did it because he was trying to gain more trust from the guys with weapons. Trying to make them think he's really trustworthy and he probably wouldn't do anything wrong. I mean I'm still questioning why he didn't go to the painting in the first place even though he knew, but I'm guessing that's just the mind of Chishiya (I have no idea if I'm even close to spelling his name right).
He didn't go to the painting, because he found out at that moment, when Arisu was caught, that the painting is the real deal - because of the look of Aguni. Chishiya didn't know before, what he should look for. He used this moment as an opportunity, and he won. (ofc :3)

I obviously don't know you guys, nobody can just from watching these videos, but I don't think you guys are transphobic. The impression I got is that you guys aren't going to go around killing or feel uncomfortable being in the same room as a trans individual. To me, it seems like you don't care whether someone is trans or not, however misgendering, especially finding out someone's past, hurts people in the Trans community, so I can see why people are upset, but I don't think to go as far as to say transphobic. If anything, I think it is great communication tool to inform that what you are doing is misgendering and that hurts certain people. Allowing people to be informed of their mistakes is better for improvement than bashing and assuming someone's whole character off of reaction videos. Although I feel I don't have much of a say, since I'm a Cishet female, as to How Much you were offensive to the Trans community (I'd wager a lot of the comments aren't from the Trans community as well), I'd advise to listen to the comments and try to understand why it may be hurtful.
Also "transformed" may also be offensive (any trans individuals, please correct me if I'm wrong) because they are not turning into some kind of alien (which that word imples). Although I know you meant transitioned, words do have meaning. Anyway, showing some love and otherwise great video

Let me just leave this here. I watched this reaction a year ago and decided not to comment too much despite having an unpleasant sensation, because I watch your other reactions to other shows and have come to enjoy them. I came back a year later coz Alice is fire again.
Episode 7 of season 1 is one of the most reacted to videos because of Kuina and her back story. And it's not because all of us are trans or LGBTQ. It's because her story is engaging and touching and as basic humans we can feel it. So if there's no respect here, it deserves to be called out.
I would like to believe though that you didn't mean any disrespect, just was shocked at first.

The actor who played the younger karate girl, is actually a boy. There is a trend called Genderless in Japan. So he kind of an actor like that. A boy that looks like a girl, but still he is a boy/ male actor. And there is also a vise versa of that where a girl/ female actress look like a boy/ male.
And the older karate girl is a real female actress.
But the character in this story, is a transgender. The rest is what other comment said, she is supposed to be the caterpillar that transform into a butterfly in Alice in Wonderland stories.
And that is how you write a transgender character correctly
