My main concern was the anxiety returning but I guess I've rewired my brain or grown out of it... Can't even smoke a joint these days without being incapacitated, half asleep shovelling junk food into my mouth.
Damn are you me? I got a job as a door guy at a bar out of desperation even though on paper it was a terrible decision given my anxiety issues around people but it actually helped a ton. I had a really drunk lesbian forcibly make me motorboat her like 2 months into the job, had multiple fights I had to break up, and had to constantly deal with people who 'forgot' their ID when they looked fresh out of high school. Coolest job ever and since then I haven't been nervous interacting with people.
I could work with the general public on drugs, i used to bar back part time and serve for a radisson banquet hall full time. Being able to drink when offered by guests and the drugs in between made me a social butterfly. Flash to 12 years later and no drugs and i cant have a job that isnt mostly by myself, cant stand human beings anymore
This is the single greatest podcast. I can’t believe how amazing Matt and Shane are together. So glad they came on the JRE. Life just got more exciting.
Back in 1992 I was sent to a scared straight program at the oldest prison in Colorado. It was an insane experience where the inmates ran the program and I had to stay the night in a cell with a guy who killed his entire family with an ice pick. They also made me sit in the cell they put death row inmates in for their last 24 hours before being executed. They threatened to rape and kill me and told me if I ever came back as an adult I would be murdered. All of that was over attempting to break into cars with the older foster kids. Coincidentally, at 21 years old i got 2 years for theft and ended up in that same prison for about 2 months and not a single person tried to rape or kill me. I did get into some fight and took some self improvement classes. After the 2 years was up I was released and have changed my life completely since. here I am today 20 years later, with a great career and 6 children. The moral of the story is no matter how bad your life might seem, tomorrow is always a new day and a new opportunity to get closer to your dreams and goals. Never let your current situation dictate the rest of your life. Dream big and work your butt off to earn everything you want in life.
