Spring time in Texas could be very Hot, Hiking boots a must, take some bug spray and stay away from Spiders and Snakes! There's great potential to find some good Treasures! Old artifacts from the Spanish-American War, Cowboys and Indian scuffles, Spanish coins, US coins etc. There's a lot of early American history to be found! Good luck take care, stay safe and Dig, dig, dig...

Definitely a door escutcheon , the square piece turns the latch in the jamb. Your door knob today has a similar mechanism or a variant there of, like a flat bar instead of a square.

Texas is a large state. In eastern Texas it is forested and green, but as you go west, it becomes desert. Texas does have a coastline, which is to the south. It depends on where you are going in Texas as to the conditions to dress for. Much of West Texas is rural with cotton fields and cattle ranches. Texas is also dotted with oil wells, and you will see oil pumps bobbing their heads up and down. Dress most often in those areas would be casual, with jeans and shirts. They often wear boots, usually cowboy boots. Some of their boots can be quite fancy, with different colors and textures used in the leather. They also have the typical broad brimmed hats, mostly worn by men, but sometimes women wear them too, particularly in West Texas In the winter there is snow, so a jacket will be helpful. Summer is hot and dry. The people of Texas are very friendly and easy to make conversation with. East Texas is more humid, particularly in summer so light cool fabrics in summer are best. Along the coast you would want to wear what you would wear to any coastal region in the summer.
If I were you I would look up on line the temperatures and climate for the region you are planning to visit.

Then take the crayons and paper away, then send us home from school play group and now potty trained , my mummy says, if bottle tops were gold coins then what are silver tops then I'm to young to know what she's talking about. Hi there, I have recently bought a better metal detector after becoming more serious about finding precious artifacts etc.
I've always found you need to look at the surroundings for potential reference points....as hundreds of years ago people looked for places to bury their valuables, sadly many people died and never returned.
I'm reading up on history of old Roman roads etc.
I would love to find the lost nazi gold train ,believed to be in Poland somewhere!
