I love to see you still reviewing cheaper RCs, even though your channel has gotten so much bigger. It's what sets you apart from the "other" rc channels. Cheers from an insomniac from WV.
HBX is good platform in this price range. I do not have a problem with it for HPI. I like the center mounted motor ( left to right). It may raise center of gravity but not a crawler so.
Tomley! I have the same car, HBX 903A. Sick! If you run a different wheel/tire combo, she jumps way better. Also, the darn lights fall out too. But, i have emersed my entire car, and can, spray off all the electronics in water with zero issues. All metal 2 diff set with pinion and drive gears, less than 25$ online. Cheap and fun. 3s capable, but does not like full trigger. Thanks from USA.
They basically did the right thing to this one to make it better by fitting a bigger esc to it, I did the same with my pickup truck version of that platform (same as 903a but with really small arms) when I found out it would cut out on full power with a 3s. I feel like I was there before hpi Lol 🤓😋 It's worth it!
That's a cool little truck. I was surprised too when it hit 40. Pretty quick for a truck with the aerodynamics as a brick. Gonna have to add it to the list. I really love and appreciate your videos. It makes it so much easier to choose a car. Thanks for keeping it real. Can't wait to see that 10 wheel drive truck when it's finished.
It appears to be a great smaller scale basher. Being able to put everything in a backpack and go to your favorite spot is a big advantage. I think it's a good idea for HPI to get into this market. It looked like a lot of fun. In the U.S. it's listed for about $170. This is a good choice to review.
It reminds me of my vatos brushless 1/16. I like it. I've learnt with body pins to have them pointing inwards, insert the front from the front and the rear from the rear and they won't go missing as often, they get wedged on rather than go missing
It's a hbx 901/ 903 chassis with a Flyhall fc610 (is Brushed) / hbx 2669a body. Those cars have a center diff and are easier to work on. The main con of all these cars is the really small battery tray. But you can make your own 18650 battery (2s2p) and it will have massive runtime.
It took some abuse!! Totally agree about the grass landings-once it digs in, all you can do is squint your eyes, grin real hard ( we all make that face ) and pray the damage is minimal!😂 Great video‼️👍👍🦾🦾🤘🤘
@@davemorris6747Bloody Hell, Kevin Talbot, Stempy and Max had a real job trying to break a MT10 , they're practically indestructible and you broke one on grass 😅😅
I personally am a 1/10 scale guy. I remember when these smaller sizes were odd. It's nice to see that there is cheap and high quality smaller vehicles coming out. Definitely have changed my opinion on scale. These are cheap enough for the whole family to have one. Great video! Thumbs up from Kentucky in the USA!
I recently grabbed a blackzon too. I Grabbed the 1/16 scale Slyder turbo in baby blue. I’ve never usually been one to take chances on the off brand cars. But when I saw the turbo slyder it just looked so cool. No regrets so far it’s a fun, fast little car. Great video, Phil.
Lot of functions in the transmiter like in the Mavericks, I like this ... and if it is from HPI and you can buy in a Shop, you can get spares easy and probably cheap. Good idea. I´m looking for a RC cheap and fast and this could be instead of the Wltoys 14010
The turbo version is actually 169.99 here in the states so 40 more than Grom. The regular 2s version is 114.99. great little truck tho can't wait to get mine!👍
The HBX radio system is frustrating when you try using the speed setting. Forward/reverse is adjusted disproportionately. When you turn it all the way down, it's slow forward but still quite quick in reverse. May be worth showing reverse as well when you demonstrate the speed adjustment.
Excellent video as ever. Great if the gears are really better as my hbx 901a (on which this is based) strips the main driveshaft rear pinion, (where it meets the rear diff) very easily. Be even better if blackzon were to license the new, three-diffed hbx2997a which still isn’t available anywhere outside the USA
concerning lights, i opted for a body mount on the exact spot of the "real" headlights. made a small hole and glued with hotglue from inside. Also added rear red lights and now i have a basher with same scale looks. Also, on my 1/16 that i use for garage fightz with my little daughter, the lights on the stock bumper position bend and break really easily. This my idea of shell mount is bullet proof so far
Not a bad little basher, you only landed about 1 jump and it survived all of it. Also just my opinion I prefer the bundles on Raffall comps, even tho I haven’t won anything yet. Good stuff sir 👍🏻
I have a Hyper Go H16BM and I don't use the 3S battery because it's a bit too squirrely for me. I just installed an 18pc aluminum kit from AliExpress and maybe now that it's heavier I can control it better on 3S.
Nice vid! Hey for future reference, a good trick for bending a threaded part back straight is to thread a nut onto it and beat on the nut. We do that with inch and a half threaded anchor bolts and a sledge hammer on steel building foundations.
For curiosity open the rear drive and look at the bevel gear its very soft and on 3 s gets eaten in a few pack, this is why im starting to move away from HBX
So is this built by HBX for HPI or vice versa? I get so confused by all the clones. Are parts interchangeable so you can order from the cheapest provider?
The only problem I have with Tomley videos is I keep seeing inexpensive RC cars and trucks I want to buy and I have no more space to STORE cars... Curse you, Kevin Tomley!! Now I need a bigger shop space!!
I like the idea of seperate prizes to multiple people instead of one person the receiving everything. Gives more people that are on a tight budget to get a RC and let them have some fun
much appreciated video! nice to see a real durability test, thats one of the most importat thing for me since i buy for my son and he manage to break every rc he gets
@TomleyRC I live in the US and have been wanting to jump into your raffles, but I can't figure anywhere about if I'm eligible? Do I just add my US card and it automatically converts to pounds?
Novice rc owner here. I’ve just purchased this truck. Looking to get a spare battery but unsure what I need to get. Can anyone recommend a spare battery that will fit? Do O need to go for the blackzon one or do most lipos fit? Thanks
Yes much better idea to have 5 winners rather than winner takes all. Alot more chance for us ❤❤❤ Awesome review, i was thinking about getting this for my daughter. 2S on low speed will be perfect to get her into the hobby.
Still the best, quick question if okay I have the mjx hyper thing is it’s brushed could you please advise me on a brushless motor upgrade please, and anything else I need thanks also how do I join yr giveaways as well,
Any idea what to do if the red light on the remote keeps blinking and the blue led on the esc keeps blinking? My son is heartbroken, he’s only used it 5 times. And help is welcome! 🙏🏽
my son rode on 3 batteries and had similar symptoms. I thought it burned the ESC, but after replacing it, it burned out after 5 minutes. the engine short-circuited and also burned the ESC. You have to be careful because there is no protection and poor cooling.
My only issue with smaller scale bashers is how difficult it is to actually land jumps. They just don't have enough suspension travel to keep from bouncing. My 8s exb Outcast can land and settle from all kinds of wonky positions. The long shocks and huge tires along with 30 plus pounds don't bounce. Even tenth scale doesn't land as smooth. Granted, the smaller stuff is less violent when it gets it wrong.
Got my kid the HBX version which appears to be more or less identical aside from the body, the good news in that is that we now have Blackzon/HPI supplying parts as well!
I only just dfound your channel a couple of days ago. I've been ill with this bloody flu going about so I've been on my couch watching everyone of your vieos... In one of your early videos you picked up a box of TT-01 parts off ebay... I'm pretty sure they were mine. They looked like mine. A few years ago I wondered if I could take a bog standard car and get it to go over 100MPH with readily available upgrades. By the time I'd finished with the TT-01 there was very little of it that was standard so I sold all the parts on ebay along with various parts from my sons RC cars and his TT-01... What you made out of the box of parts has a striking resemblance to what my son's looked like. Including the pink and blue alloy upgrades and even the coloured suspension springs and stuff. There was a lot of other parts in your box I didn't recognise. I'm wondering if when I sold it the buyer took what was needed and then passed on the rest with some of his old stuff. But that TT-01 chassis that you made was defo mine/my sons. A shame you didn't get the body shell as it was a GT40 in 2-tone pearl paint. It changed from red to blue in different light and looked amazing.
Hi Phil, looks a decent truck for the money. It seems like your paying for the Arama name with the grom. I think your right about the 2s being better for it. Looked a handful on 3s. Great review as always. 😊
there is a smaller version of this in hobbie shops here. Probably the size of the grom or however you spell it. It's called the slyder. got one for my son. Fun little basher.
Another good review but I was hoping for more super apocalypse truck with the heavy artillery. That thing is insane. I've been thinking about it being done for the last couple of days. God if that was real, using a diesel train engine as the body and power plant. I was thinking about something so big rocking from firing the artillery at incoming hoards of zombies!😅😂 too cool.
It is a real thing apart from full size is actually a 12x12 for when 10x10 just won't cut it. A 150.6-liter diesel V12 gave it the go.a few bits on the net about it cant post a link but 12x12 landtrain should find it.Didn't have thast gun though.😁

In the past , I got some good deals and vehicles from Bang G...But those days are long gone here in Canada , The budget prices no longer exist and they sometimes want more for shipping than the product costs now . wow a company actually using coiled wires for lights, It's like we are finally in the 21st century!
Yes, major upgrade in my opinion. Makes running much less problematic when removing body for inspection and battery swap.
The biggest problem with HPI now is that their latest Maverick and Blackzon stuff are now better than their own HPI stuff 😂
