      If any of you New York people want to see it for yourself Bure was asked if he held resentment for richter when he was traded to New York and that was his answer .
      You should read what Wayne Gretzky said about Bure and the nyr gm not telling him they were working at it. Gretz said he would have extended his career to play with Bure and Fluery.

    Loved those 90s Messier era teams. Not only the 94 squad either. In 92 they won the Presidents Trophy and Leetch won the Norris Trophy, 96 with the awesome Verbeek-Messier tandem where Mess scored the most goals of his entire career, and in 97 we had a deep run with 2 Gretzky playoff hat tricks and Leetch won his 2nd Norris Trophy. Lots of great, fun teams from 92-97!

    Keenan wasn't brought in to be Mr. nice guy...He was brought in to kick ass and hold players responsible..And players on that 94 team had career years that year...Richter and Leetch being at the top of the list and they were the 2 who whined most about him...Bottom line is he got results that they failed to get with Neilson !!

      @amazinmets8439 3 года назад

      Leetch credits Keenan for making him a better player so he hardly "whined" about him. Neilson was a pussy, they needed Keenan to kick them in the ass. That's what the Mets need, they've had too many "buddy" managers. As good as Keenan was he wasn't without his faults. Benching Leetch in the playoffs was a really stupid move. Pulling Richter Game 4 etc. but at the end of the day he got the job done.

      What fake news? Glenn Healy (goalie on the '93-'94 Ranger team) told that story on Bob McCown's Sports Radio show (The FAN 590 Toronto) around 2016, saying that Roger liked to match lines and Messier didn't like the fact he was NOT getting the ice team he wanted, and was NOT getting matched up against the other team's best players. He complained to senior management, and Roger ended up getting fired.
      Messier WAS friends with Keenan, going back to the '87 Canada Cup Series, and perhaps even before that. They later hooked up together (disastrously) in Vancouver. Roger Neilson was a good coach (20+ yrs in NHL) and a smart hockey guy, getting to the finals once, I believe. Keenan won exactly 1 Cup.

    The 1994 Finals is a stark reminder to me that nice guys finish last. It doesn't matter how hard you work, it's about what you're willing to do to another team's players in order to win. It's one thing if you're both in a puck battle and someone gets hurt as a result, but when some guy is crawling to the bench because he's already injured, if you're first thought is, "I'm going to chop at this guy and injure him some more," that's not a hockey play. It's embarrassing to the game. And then Mark Messier came to Vancouver and tarnished his reputation further by demolishing the team and then suing them on the way out. Greatest captain in NHL history? Because he deliberately injured the captain of another team in the Finals after winning 5 already? There's being competitive, and there's being an embarrassment to the game. I'll never look at hockey the same way again because we all know what happened in 1994 and it's been all downhill ever since. Looks like the Rangers are working on a new curse.

      Messier, Leetch, Graves, Richter, Kovalev, Zubov, Tikkanen, Nemchinov all core guys that played for the Rangers for years and/or were drafted by the Rangers, so give it a rest.
