Anchoring at the sandbar stern first can be done with any size boat in any conditions if your method is correct. Your focus should be on the approach and how you attack a strong wind or tide. Think through your conditions and the area you’re in. Get on the same page as your mate and work together.
Scope, distance, depth, current, wind, and space available should all be considered before you attempt to anchor.
