Pearl Jam's 4th album No Code (1996). Nobody saw this coming, There are songs that sound like Country Rock (Smile, Off He Goes, Red Mosquito, Around The Bend) & songs that sound like Hardcore Punk (Habit, Hail Hail, Lukin). Bit confusing to fans.
It’s very new but the latest Duran Duran album, Danse Macabre, may grow to be my favorite DD outlier album! A Halloween themed record with three new releases, several re-worked versions of older originals, and some covers. Even the album cover is a French painting Nick Rhodes had purchased of a seance!
Megadeth - Risk (I love this album by the way) Blackfoot - Vertical Smiles (too much keyboards, drum machines. No surprise it was their last album for that lineup)) Nazareth - Exercises
Krokus, stampede album, new vocalist, bass player playing lead guitar and lead guitarist playing bass! Really good heavy album but bizarre. Motley Crue, generation swine was crazy different. Uriah Heep, abominog, super heavy after a string of mellow albums and how about that album cover
Glad Parish mentioned Fall Out Boy. I know it’s not the usual musical act for The Contrarians, but I’m not ashamed to say they are a band I’ve always enjoyed. I also like Mania for the departure it is. And, no, I’m not a musician, so if FOB are untalented hacks I wouldn’t know or care, I guess. I also love hair metal btw. 🙂🙂
Never gave hear in the now frontier much of a chance until i saw a tate interview on youtube earlier this year where he spoke about it. Then it suddenly clicked, now i rank it on par with promised land.
It all makes sense if Andrew was a big Warrant fan, then no wonder he does not like promised land. Promised land is a masterpiece. For those who have not given it a chance or have not listened to it… at night, have yourself a couple glasses of red wine, put on some headphones, and get ready for a nice journey.
@@logancollins7097 I think it’s because Jack isn’t on it. I saw them in a small club on that tour and they were a hungry band that seemed to have a chip on their shoulder. They put on a great show and played about half that album. It’s good to see some folks still remember it.
Kansas: Drastic Measures. Power. In The Spirit Of Things. No violin, not much prog. Drastic Measures is more a John Elefante solo album than a Kansas album. Power and Spirit are more Steve Morse solo albums with Steve Walsh singing than a Kansas album, plus, no Kerry Livgren Supertramp: Free As A Bird. Instead of their usual mix of prog/prog pop/jazz-rock/art rock, this album was pretentious synth-pop/Kenny G smooth jazz. Utter dreck. Dire Straits: On Every Street A great album, but it is more a Mark Knopfler solo album instead of a Dire Straits album
Hey Butch.. Jungle is NOT one of Paul's best songs! 😂 C'mon the whole album is an attempt... and they sound like a 3rd rate Alice in Chains/Soundgarden clones. It's a 4/10 at best!
That Accept album Andrew is taliking about is called "I'm a Rebel". It's not self-titled. I know many people confuse this one with their debut album from 1979 which is actually self-titled, but again this one is called "I'm a Rebel" and it's definitely an outlier. Although I don't think they sound like AC/DC on it. And I also disagree about "Eat the Heat", it was their attempt to release a hair metal record but it didn't come as a surprise because they were moving towards that commercial sound for a long time through the 80's, and it was a natural result for them. So I wouldn't call it an outlier, it's just a product of it's time, and a great record by the way.
Hey Grant, you’re doing a great job hosting these Contrarians episodes, you’ve boosted the channel a lot.
I agree, this channel has improved much since grant started presenting.
Thanks for the kind words! More Great content on the way!
@@GrantsRockWarehaus Yeah Grant uses a proper mic, he's centered in the frame, and keeps the energy up. The last guy did not do these things.

'The Soft Parade' The Doors; 'Shakedown Street' Grateful Dead; 'Legacy of the Dark Lands' Blind Guardian
It was a great topic & a lot of fun to do.

Thanks. They’re a great band imo.
Saw a lot of shows at the Newport in Columbus from1986 to 90
You still in Columbus? Lot's of great acts went through the Newport during that era!
@@thecontrarians2438 left Columbus at the end of 1990. Was a good run while there.

Does Honkin on Bobo by Aerosmith count?
Steven Wilson - The Future Bites
I bought "Feeding Off The Mojo" from eBay, wasn't cheap.
‘Outlier’ is one of those trendy words that RUclipsrs are overusing right now…

Styx: 'Edge of the Century' not a bad album
Panorama- The Cars ( great)
Another Perfect Day- Motorhead ( great)
Cold Lake- Celtic Frost ( trash)
Grant mentioning that Ozzy concerts 1000th times..😆😄🫣😳😆🎼🎸📢📢😂👍👋
Ozzy comes up a lot on this channel
Get it all out in one episode Tim😂
Hate the beach boys. I never i got it.
Come Taste the Band
Feeding Off the Mojo damn solid album
Absolutely. It’s a shame the band doesn’t consider it to be an official Night Ranger album.
@@howardrice8533 Probably cause it's just Brad and Kelly right? Still damn good

I've always been curious about this album, what's it like?
I miss the early Contrarions-shows between Martin and Marco which were really about contrarion-choices. These panel discussions are getting stale.
ya the one on ones have maybe been put aside a little too much, you’re right, those were the core of our channel
