One thing that you didn't touch on is how Chaos spreads. Chaos isn't as chaotic as you might first assume, okay yes the effects on ships and such are very random but Chaos isn't exactly lawless. The most common over arching rule is that Chaos will always seek to spread its influence, Chaos begets Chaos. An example (btw if you are interested in this further I would recommend going and watching some of Arch Warhammers' videos on the subject) say a guardsmen found one of the symbols of Chaos, lets say a Khorne associated symbol, initially they wouldn't think much of it. They may attribute some sort of meaning to it, perhaps along the lines of it being a symbol of "Strength" and or "Protection". Then later, back at the barracks, they show their platoon mates and explain the concepts it represents. The platoon will then get this niggling idea that maybe they should put it on their uniforms, so they make little patches and sow them on their shoulders, nothing overtly insidious there right. But, months down the line, one of the guardsmen comes in to the barracks and pulls up his sleeve to reveal a tattoo of said symbol. The rest of the guardsmen all go "hell yeah, we should have it as a proper platoon emblem" like Navy SEALs do for example, and they all go out and tattoo this emblem on them. Then, later down the line again, they all send their loved ones the old patches they had made with a little letter along the lines of "My platoon and I have adopted this emblem as are platoon symbol, we've sent them to you so that if you're ever worried about us on deployment you can give prayers to them and send us your blessings" or whatever. So now the families of these guardsmen now give prayers to these little icons, maybe even make a larger version of it, and ask their friends and neighbours to just pray for the strength of the soldiers out their fighting. Do you see what I'm laying out here, Chaos is seeking to expand its influence, the more influence the more control it can wield. Eventually the families stop praying for strength and protection for the guardsmen and start praying for the guardsmen to kill all their enemies, a subtle difference, nothing bad there it's the means to the same end. But this would eventually expedite out of control as the influence and control that Chaos is wielding grows ever more until.... well shit, this world is infested by demons and chaos cultists now better Exterminatus the planet. This was a pretty short hand over view but you get the picture.

"Chaos" is only bad because of the malevolence inherent in the 40k timeline's warp. Had that warp been protected from malevolence somehow, chaos could have been wild, peaceful freedom, no rules, and no need for them. No need for the laws of physics, nor order required. Eternal blissful play, watched over by those of great power. We can only hope that timeline comes to us instead. Perhaps then, the warp and reality may even fuse again, without conflict.
Preach, brother! If I didn't have any fear of boring an audience with the Mary Sueness of my self-insert, then my guy in 40K would have to be an arch-psyker who goes into the Warp, finds all the other chaos gods that are overshadowed by the big four (excluding Malil, the also-ran of the bunch who is no better than them), and unify them into a purifying force that would oppose each of the big four by turning them against one another more than they already are, until they completely obliterate each other and create a power vacuum, which selected minor chaos powers would then fill by serving in some sort of loose cooperative council. Their unifying goal without the Big Four to unite against? Destroy the C'Tan. That ought to keep them busy enough that they don't fall apart again. Maybe by the 51st millenium the galaxy will have peace.
The Chaos Gods do not just represent evil. For instance Khorne represents Honor and victory (followers are not supposed to kill the weak and the helpless), Nurgle also represents companionship, family, and new life. If one of the Chaos Gods were to beat the others what is said is that they would gain the power of the others and be able to command a giant scale invasion of the material world
Yes Khorne is all those things and also anger and hatred incarnate. Part of the point of Chaos is that it is internally conflicted and even followers of the same god will fight each other.
the gods of chaos aren't as simple as they are made out to be khorne may be the god of war and bloodshed but he also symbolises courage, athleticism, determination, daring, discipline, sportsmanship, honor, impulsiveness, and struggling onward in the face of any odds.
In equal measure to the prevalence of those thoughts and emotions as they exist in real space, but few of any such positive aspects COMBINED which psychically feed and shape the Chaos Gods could equal the collection of core negative ones present in a universe governed by war and conflict, even removed from Chaos' influence. And, more often than not, positive aspects are in service of or tied to the creation or greater swaths of the negative: Courage to fight on, against impossible odds, out of Service and Honor to the goal of killing the Enemy; Determination of a military leader to Struggle and Prevail in preserving their way of life through extermination of the Enemy. The greatest tragedy of 40K is that the Warp and all that lies within is and always was a reflection of real space, concentrated to the point of physical manifestation. That it is a malevolent Hellscape instead of the dangerous but arbitrary Chaoscape it once was is testament to the conflict orientated nature of the 40K universe, and any nuance you wish to explore of the beings therein can only go as deep as that present in it's source. In. Equal. Measure.
Personally I kind of hate how Space Marine centric 40K Chaos is, back in Warhammer Fantasy anyone could become a chaos champion: a Doctor, a crippled child, a Norscan Prince, some random hunter, meanwhile in 40K if you aren't a Space Marine you aren't worth the Dark Gods time, pretty all of the major Chaos characters in 40K's backstory include the line "I was the right hand of *Insert Traitor Primarch here* and now since *Insert Traitor Primarch here* refuses to get off his fucking ass I have to lead the forces of *Insert Chaos God here* ."
Lore-wise I'm sure that's still possible, but they'd be much more likely to be rooted out by the Inquisition before they can ascend. I know what you mean though, would be nice to have some variety.
Well if it's Khorne were talking about, then yeah, he's going to go for the most kick-ass MF'er around,,,,,,,,,,,so Space Marine. Nurgle probably would go for a SM as well, since they are so hardy they could enjoy his "gifts" for a longer period of time. I think Slannesh probably likes the challenge of flipping a SM from a life of duty and discipline to pleasure. Loyalty to Tzeentch is probably the best bet for a normal human to climb the chaos ladder; after all, if you are smart and ambitious enough (possibly with some influence), you can be an interesting enough toy for the Changer of Ways.
Praise be to the Prince of pleasure! May she lead you towards perfection! Hail tzeentch! May your plans be insidious and unbeatable! For khorne! May his wrath guide your blade! For chaos!
Oh yeah! Chaos holds a feared, elevated spot in the far future! Keeping the gods on their side of the Warp is not an easy task, but the Astartes are always game for a good bloody fight! Keep it coming man!
Forces of chaos, more to the point of those who of the material universe who turn to them, for various reasons, and especially the Space Marines(who felt betrayed and actually for the most part saw themselves as the only ones true to the call of duty for their loyalty to earth and it's people before their loyalty to the Emperor and his vision, his solutions that considered no individual lives ... (and who, at least initially were seeking answers, truth and only fighting thusly for liberation of themselves and others...until that path of questioning and of doubt, as reasonable as it sounds, unfortunately lead exactly to what the Emperor feared in his predictions, corruption of self until nothing human remains, just a vessel for chaos; still one could thusly say his solutions, seem inherently and intrinsically flawed, causing this predisposition, this predestination paradox)), while are corrupted and seduced by said forces, and that's true enough, but at the same time it's not like they didn't have a rather good reason (in the beginning, and given the little to no information they had, other than the constant demans made of them for further sacrifice, with essentially no explanations given as to even the general reasons why) to turn against the Emperor and away from "Imperial Truth" propaganda for it's cost was clearly too high to keep the universe at peace(seemingly only for the sake of one "man's" continued reign), for the price of any and all freedom, let alone being disposable themselves, to be exploited and nothing more, and discarded... Then again, the Emperor's concerns were much larger than any individuals, spanning literal millennia, and after his disappointment with observing humans mismanaging themselves from near conquest of stars and into civil wars and near extinction, it's also understandable to see why and how he might react to alleviate the situation, also given the external threats only he seemed to perceive at the time...but it's not like he bothered to tell anyone of the reasons for his perceived cruelties and atrocities committed...that part remains most mysterious... Ultimately, much akin to a world of Fallout, it's really all just a paradoxical, spiral loop of logics, despair, disparity, and madness
Damn iam star trek and star wars fan but after I saw this, I just found out Warhammer 40K universe is so amazing way interesting space is a dark place there's no such thing as heroism you just survive there's no such thing as fun Exploration you will always find danger

@@paulofkintyre8348 Yeah. I remember an analysis of WH4K about this. My english is not good enough and I'm not sure I fully understand the philosophy, but basically WH4K universe has to be seen as a universe close its natural end. Personally I'd prefer to see Papa Nurgle, he has the potential to be a fairly boring god, but his personality really makes him stand out from the other Chaos Gods.
I know that this isn't a 40K meme, but I only played Mordheim, so: Sigmarites: Our will for order is just and so shall we gain victory! Shadowlord: Haha human mutation go brrr
IMO the Foundation's constant drive for knowledge at all costs would most certainly lead them to slowly fall to Chaos (probably Tzeentch) after tampering with the Warp and/or messing with some Chaos-corrupted artifacts.
@@CollinBuckman the fundation mainly research to know enougth to contain the anomaly, if they know how to influence the warp they would use psykerd to asociate the thing with something containable, but it can corrupt some fumdation reseachers.
@@MrRobot-0 For one, the Foundation does MUCH more than research containment. For two, trying to control and influence the Warp would make things worse. Look at the Thousand Sons! They tirelessly studied and manipulated the Warp for their needs, and it caused them to become nothing but unwitting pawns of Tzeentch.
It is very much debatable wether the chaos gods are actually sentient or sapient in any sense we might understand. And that goes even for tzeentch. Also, in the warp itself demons are essentially just a formless power. But when they manifest in the material realm they will take on whatever form the people that summoned them imagine them to have. Because that's essentially what a demon is. Demons are whatever sentient beings imagine them to be.

I have no ideia how fantastic the 40k universe was...
The Chaos Gods do not just represent evil. For instance Khorne represents Honor and victory (followers are not supposed to kill the weak and the helpless), Nurgle also represents companionship, family, and new life. If one of the Chaos Gods were to beat the others what is said is that they would gain the power of the others and be able to command a giant scale invasion of the material world
Khorne also wants you to kill everything around you and offer their skulls and blood.
Yes Khorne is all those things and also anger and hatred incarnate. Part of the point of Chaos is that it is internally conflicted and even followers of the same god will fight each other.
List of civil massacres:
This list is incomplete YOU CAN HELP BY EXPANDING IT
Nice reference
I would love to see some vids about the minor Chaos Gods you referenced at the start, I wasn't even aware there were more than the 4 main ones
with war hammer 40k getting more popular you should do more on this. Like alot more especially the stories and such.
Such an underrated verse
the gods of chaos aren't as simple as they are made out to be khorne may be the god of war and bloodshed but he also symbolises courage, athleticism, determination, daring, discipline, sportsmanship, honor, impulsiveness, and struggling onward in the face of any odds.
In. Equal. Measure.
Explain again where the sportsmanship and honor comes from when he's putting entire planets to the sword on the daily, women and children included.
Submit to the great plague father. There is no hope for the universe, so might as well have a good time with a loving family while you're at it.

I'm making my way through your 40k series, thank you for these vids!
You should explore the chaos gods, would be very interesting... BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD

i love the quote at the end
Yeah that's a fine quote from The Lord of change from tzeentch I like about the Warhammer 40K universe
Took a shot every time he said chaos.

RIP me.
Sounds... chaotic
... I'll see myself out XD
Damn iam star trek and star wars fan but after I saw this, I just found out Warhammer 40K universe is so amazing way interesting space is a dark place there's no such thing as heroism you just survive there's no such thing as fun Exploration you will always find danger

THE EMPEROR IS CHAOTIC GOOD!!!
There aren't any good gods of chaos because 40k is such a horrible place that negative emotions and disease dominate real space giving rise to evil gods
@@paulofkintyre8348 Yeah. I remember an analysis of WH4K about this. My english is not good enough and I'm not sure I fully understand the philosophy, but basically WH4K universe has to be seen as a universe close its natural end. One stage up to physical and psychological end by entropy. Total absence of positive feelings (even the fake ones) bring nothing. In a way or another this state of constant war will end and, as all long term wars, it won't end good for anybody. Even for the chaos gods. This video is right: chaos will prevail over everything...including its own gods.

Technically the chaos gods could be classed as good.
Khorne is the god of strength, honour and martial prowess.
Tzeench the god of hope and wisdom.
Nurgle is the god of life
Slannesh is the god of pleasure, enjoyment, happiness, parties ect
@@the_dropbear4392 Kronos could "technically" be classed as good as he was the god of time. However he wasn't, he was a mad titan who devoured his kids- a god having dominion over a good aspect of life doesn't make it inherently good

Good video, but some key points you have made a mistake on, the warp is not chaos, Chaos occupies the warp, if you strip the warp away from chaos, chaos dies, if you strip chaos from the warp, the warp goes on.

I would love an extra Video about exploring Tzeentch :) !
Personally I'd prefer to see Papa Nurgle, he has the potential to be a fairly boring god, but his personality really makes him stand out from the other Chaos Gods.
The Emperor himself said that he was not a god, therefore he cannot protect you from the fires of your own damnation to original and primordial gods.
I know that this isn't a 40K meme, but I only played Mordheim, so:
Sigmarites: Our will for order is just and so shall we gain victory!
Shadowlord: Haha human mutation go brrr
what if the chaos (warp) were a part of the scp world?
If you pay attention to it, the 40k chaos can be linked to every popular sci-fi series.
They would put the warp in a box and let it sit on a shelf.
Fun fact chaos factions in the Warhammer franchise comes from the older stories of Michael Moorecock’s multiverse series
I find it hilarious that because of Horus everyone now has to deal with Plaguebearer Marines and I bet that the Tau would be devastated with diseases.
When he mentions the martial world, I get Madonna's song in my head

Chaos is soooo intresting
My favorite Chaos god is Nurgle
Whats yours ?
What are the containment procedures the foundation has for this anomaly?
It is very much debatable wether the chaos gods are actually sentient or sapient in any sense we might understand. And that goes even for tzeentch.
Also, in the warp itself demons are essentially just a formless power. But when they manifest in the material realm they will take on whatever form the people that summoned them imagine them to have. Because that's essentially what a demon is. Demons are whatever sentient beings imagine them to be.
