Fun fact: Johnny Depp never had aspirations to become an actor until he did this film. At the time, he was in a rock band, trying to make it in LA as a musician. He was broke and needed to pay his rent, so his buddy Nicholas Cage got him an audition for Nightmare on Elm Street. It was his first acting role. The rest is history.
Another interesting thing is that he was not the first choice and Wes Craven only hired him because his teenage daughter at the time noticed a head shot of Johnny and told her dad to cast him. Craven thought he looked sickly or something but his daughter told him he was dreamy. 🥰
Fun fact: he went in to audition with his friend Jackie Earle Haley, who he beat out for it, but would go on to play Freddy in a later movie!
Wow! Never knew any of that. Thanks for sharing!
I love stories like this. You never know where life will take you
not SICKLY ☠️ 🤣
When Nancy chose to end this herself is when I truly fell in love with her. Her friends are dead, her parents are useless. She's on her own but still chooses to fall asleep and end this one way or another. She's such a strong, likable final girl.
Fun fact: In a deleted scene it explains that the victims and Nancy are the siblings of Kreuger’s original victims. That explains her mother’s attitude and alcoholism.
do you know if there’s anywhere i can watch that?
@@gerby6000 there are a few videos on here actually
This could've been a much darker film if this scene was left in.
Interesting
Whoah, I never heard that. I knew that the victims of the first 4 films were the children of the mob that killed Freddy, but the sibling angle is news to me
"You have the strength of a thousand bitches, girl". This has to be the greatest description of Nancy I've ever heard. Love your commentary.
I didn't think "give it a rest Frederick" would crack me up as much as it did.
Oh my God and the way she refers to Tina's boyfriend, Rod Lane, as "Knifey." Like "Tina, wake up knifey!" Or at the end when they're all back in the car and she says "Oh, and there's knifey!!"
Saw this in the theater in '84, age 7. Begged my dad to go... lied, told him it would be like Gremlins, and offered to pay for our tickets with my allowance. We walked in during Tina's first dream, and I freaked and tried to run back out the doors. My dad pulled me back in and said "Nope. You dragged me out here, were watching this". And I couldn't be happier he did that.
This was the only horror movie that gave me nightmares
I was 9 when i saw this back in '84. And I loved it so much, i told my friends about it.... ALL of it. i was a human spoiler alert. lol. I told them every scene, ever scary part, every bad word, and they couldn't wait to see it too. My mom was cool for letting me see movies like this.
Top tier dad moment.
🤣 so happy you were able to appreciate it cause at age 7 my psyche woulda been SCARRED!
@@AlandaParker heck, at age 16 my psyche was scarred for about a week...
The actress who played Nancy really carried this movie to another level.
All the actors were great which is unusual for a horror movie but Nancy was exceptional
LOVE. HER.
"Its going to be so much harder to fight when you have to push your titties out of the way" 100% facts and im dying laughing over here!
"Woooow, you stepped in front of a bullet for that boy....and he didn't even go down a block..." My lord XD
"She could have given her a ride though."
No. She couldn't. Trust me. That woman's vodka breath could peel the paint from the walls at 7 am.
"Nancy, stop self-traumatizing in the bath please" 😂
That was my favorite line lol
“Don’t put on something you can be backlit in.”
Best horror movie advice ever lol
I love Nancy's character. I feel like she's super underrated horror character... She keeps getting more awesome in the 3rd one!
Also, the ending.. you can disregard it. The real story was supposed to be that she defeats him by not fearing him. The hook with the car & the mom getting pulled in the window was only added by the studio to allow for a sequel. Wes Craven never wanted that & he said it makes no sense.
Understandable.
100% agree❤
Agreed, she deserves to be as loved as Laurie & Sidney 😔
"McGriddle-face" earned the like.
I liked "twisty sheets", "Howard Hughes moment" and "the strength of thousand bitches" lol
😂 🙏🏾
Frederick 🤣🤣🤣 I first watched this when I was like 6 or 7 & it traumatized me... Nancy is by far one of the best final girls
I was 12 and it traumatized me !!!! I can’t imagine at 6 !!!! So scary and of course a kid that age is kinda scared of their dark room at night - let alone then your scared to fall asleep! Terrible. Just pretty much hated it.
@@GDRaptorFan13 i started watching scary movies at a young age. I loved them then & still do now but as a kid I would be scared after watching a scary movie & didn't want to go to sleep lol. My mom & older sister would tease me saying scary lines from the movie to scare me. I used to run downstairs & tell my grandmother lol
I can't believe yall were out here at these TENDER AGES watchin this madness! RESPECT cause I woulda been done after the opening credits 🤣🤣🤣
@@AlandaParker yes we were..
@@GDRaptorFan13 I was about 6 and I found Freddy funny 😂
I was never scared of horrors because of this film. Some make me cringe (Hellraiser), but never scared.
"Tina, you're making me nervous...I'm gonna sip this margarita." I adore you. This is my first of your videos, now I have to go catch up!
😄 Thanks!!!!
@@AlandaParker love your videos girl
Same! I’m catchin up with all her videos! Alanda is reaction perfection!
"Give it a rest, Frederick" took me out 😂😂
This was actually inspired by several news articles in the 70's about Asian immigrants who had survived/witnessed horrific things and would have nightmares, some even died while dreaming, these events along with an interest in Eastern religion, and some childhood fears helped Wes Craven come up with this movie.
His childhood bully was named fred and he got some inspiration based on a guy out his window that starred at him ALL NIGHT
Wes Craven was only involved with this movie, part 3 Dream Warriors and Wes Cravens New Nightmare, also known as the Nancy Trilogy.
Those are the best ones :-)
Dream Warriors is my favourite.
Oh I did not know this. Nancy is a badass for sure 👍
Those two should be next
He essentially had nothing to do with Dream Warriors. Nothing's in it that he wrote or contributed. He was always (rightfully) angry that the series made a bajillion dollars without him. In fact that's ridiculously obvious when you watch New Nightmare.
"Nancy" does get out when he evaporates, when she walks out of the door we are transferred
into "Marge's" ("Nancy's" mother's dream), that was the ending twist Wes (R.I.P.) put in. :) Freddy was haunting her dreams as well, which is the hidden reason she started drinking.
That's fantastic and gives a whole new dimension that I never realised before - and I saw this when I was a kid in the 80's.
Huh, I never caught that.
I wonder if thats why Nancy's dad was Officer Douche the whole movie. He was haunted too
🤯👍
My mom was born in the 1940's, she watched this movie when it came out in theaters and has never watched a horror movie since. She said it scarred her lmaoo
When she called him an asshole out the window lol
He was so nonchalant. Unfortunately some in law enforcement has that attitude 😒
“Tina you making me nervous. Lemme sip this Margarita!” 😂😂😂😂😂
**nancys mom** “did you sleep?
“Bitch NoOoOoOoOo”
😂😂😂😂😂
"You rolled around in those Practical Magick roses for no reason at all?!" . I love it :D
Fun facts:
1. Johnny Depp only auditioned for this role because he was with his good pal Jackie Earl Haley....who would later go onto play Freddy in the 2010 remake (which sucks). Depp got the part, Jackie would go onto largely be an unknown actor until he got a major role in Watchmen.
2. The teacher who wakes up Nancy is Lin Shaye, who is most famous for her role as Elise in the Insidious franchise.
3. Glenn's bedroom death scene almost caused the set to burn down because a prop malfunctioned
It was so great how you and Nancy were on the same vibe :D
honestly wish I knew her IRL! 🤣 Nancy is that bitch!
Your commentary has me dyingggg 😂😂😂
There’s too many quotes lmaooo
But I have always laughed at “Screw your pass” because Nancy was SO offended to even be asked that question. How dare her ask that? “I am going through a Trauma” was the most accurate subtext of that whole line! 😂😂
Nancy had me screaming from start to finish 🤣! The Blueprint for a final girl IMO 🙌🏾
@@AlandaParker Hahaha right! Nancy be speaking the truth. “And what did you do??! You little shit!” 😂
You might as well go on and add ‘Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors’ to your long list Lol. I don’t wanna give away any storylines, but it has a young Laurence Fishburne and Patricia Arquette - and some other familiar faces from this one.
''she was getting ceviche'' is the quote of the year!!!
The way Freddy works is he gets his strength from their fear. That fear allows him to come into the real world and do damage. It's sort of explained more in Dream Warriors and Freddy vs. Jason. And a bit in New Nightmare if I'm not mistaken.
"Is that urine?? Oh, it's gasoline. Thought she was having a Howard Hughes moment". 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is why Generation X always said Whatever, we had no parental supervision or interest in what we did except random speeches and rules.
@Mitchell Waldrep do you want a cookie
"Strength of a thousand bitches" -Alanda. ...HiLARIOUS ! Made me spit out my soda through my nose!
Such an iconic movie. I love the fact that we can't tell if the characters are awake or not sometimes, which makes the whole thing feel very surreal and dream like.
I love this movie, Nancy is such an icon
She really is❤
Happy birthday Robert Englund!
"I hope this doesn't scar me, y'all."
Me: Watched this when I was 9. Had nightmares until I was 15.
Same here.
This is just the first time around here. Never had much interest in horror movies.
@@travisfoster1071 My brother rented it on VHS and left it on the table when everyone was out for the night. I was curious and watched it. I was so scared that I had to rewind and rewatch it at least 4 more times because I had figured, "if he's on the TV I know where he is...when the movie is over he can be anywhere."
I was sooooo scared as a 9 or 10 yr old when I watched this back in the day. 80's and 90's were great film eras!
@@falcon048 I was just in seventh grade when it came out. By then, I was actually such a sci-fi fan that I had barely any interest.
I loved this. Nancy is the best final girl of all 80s slashers
Alanda's recoil at the metaphorical & randomly placed runaway lamb at 1:39-1:40, made me laugh!!
So you see 25:54 where Nancy is begging Glen to not fall asleep - she must've been asleep herself at that point. It would explain her building traps n sh*t and her drunk mom having the wherewithal to lock her in. For me - the entire final act is Nancy asleep, she just doesn't realize it until the car drives away. It explains Donald's reaction to seeing Marge sink into the bed -clearly this was always Nancy's nightmare the moment she answered the unplugged phone.
nancy really was the 1st “you had one job” 😂
I love Nancy! Best girl, she gets shit done, and the actress was amazing!
It's fun seeing younger people watching the films I grew up on!
The 80's had awesome movies & music!!!
Facts
22:16 In some countries, having bars on your windows is very common. I lived in Spain for a few years when I was younger. Over there, pretty much all houses have bars on every window. Some even have secondary, barred doors outside of the front and/or back doors. Apparently, it's to protect against break ins. I remember thinking the same thing about fires breaking out, especially in houses with those doors. That's two different locks you'd need to open in order to escape. No idea what you would do if the stairs were blocked and you didn't have a balcony. Die, probably.
you see it a lot in new york too
In the script, the contractors are talking to Marge and are telling her that they are charging her extra for breaking the fire codes like that (without an emergency release on the inside) while the workers who don’t speak English are finishing up and she is paying in cash
“Where’d you go to medical school? McDonald’s?”
😂 You’re hilarious
Please continue the Nancy saga! Nightmare on Elm Street 3 & then Wes Craven's New Nightmare, my personal fave of them all. I really enjoyed your reaction! These films are very dear to me ❤ hugs from Ireland 🇮🇪
oh I def will!! Thank you!! 🥰

that phone shit took me back. parents would take the phone of the hook all the damn time. hollering about 'why you calling the house so damn late' ...at 9 o'clock.
💀💀💀
My moms rule was always no calls before 9am or after 9pm
Thanks for posting this reaction. I'm glad you enjoyed the film. This was a walk down memory lane for me. Heather Langenkamp (Nancy Thompson) was my first crush when I was a teen. I always loved the atmosphere of this movie. Robert Englund did a brilliant job, and the scene between Nancy and her mother explaining the "death" of Freddy has always been a favorite of mine.
Fun fact. Johnny depp plays a friendlier version of Freddy... Edward Scissorhands
to this day I haven't seen that movie cause the cover scared the hell outta me as a kid! I could (probably 🥴) handle it now.... I need to put it on my list
Fun Fact: Freddy was not suppose to be a child killer. He was meant to be child predator. But topic was and still is too sensitive so they went killer route. 🤔
Alanda, I am in love with you! Your line of "Tina, You're making me nervous...I'm gonna sip on this Margarita." had me in stitches.
You're truly a woman of my own heart
These movies only get more and more self aware. The peak is Wes Cravens New Nightmare it involves members of this cast as themselves in the movie.
It's crazy you are watching this and it happens to be Robert Englund who played Freddy's birthday today.
Watching movies with you is a blast!
I feel so proud. I can now watch horror movies without feeling as freaked out 😂
Me too!!! (Usually) 😂🙌🏾 look at us! We makin it!
"Girl, it's gonna be so much harder to fight or your life if you have to push your t**ties out of the way". OMG, simply brilliant Alanda.
Frederick, lmao! Once again, your commentary is just too good. You were caring for Nancy better than her parents did too. Whoops!
Love that you come the Nightmare on ELm street franchise, this is the best one in the whole lot. It was soooo scary when I saw as a kid. Great themes too I remember being a latch-key kid growing up and this felt very possible. Parents worked alot and never really paid attention their children.
I feel like we Gen Xers are still that vibe, we just go about life hopefully unnoticed and unbothered.
Great reaction! Five stars; 10 out of 10! 😁 I hope you continue the "Nightmare on Elm Street" Nancy saga with part 3 and "New Nightmare." Both of those movies feature Heather Langenkamp as Nancy.
thank you so much! 😊 def gonna keep going with these!
Hi Alanda this is one of my favorite horror movies of all time, still the best in the franchise.
Welcome to 80s parents let their kids alone lol “they ll be fine “ was the attitude I lived through it 😂 great seeing you reacting to this Nancy is great the 3 rd one dream warriors is great as well 👍
"Why does he have jack-in-the-box arms" Alanda, I love your comments. You are awesome!
Your commentary is amazing! If you get a chance there is a show on Netflix called movies that made us where they did an episode on this movie. Eve just in your own time I just found it fascinating...for example the room where johnny died they built a whole room that could turn upside down. So like...that scene you are watching an upside down room where they poured blood out of a hole in the 'roof' which was actually the bed. They also used the same room for that scene where tina died and the room was just spinning around to give her the effect of floating up to the walls. Anyway the 80s aesthetic and how they did it with all practical effects on a tiny budget was amazing...they broke like a million oc health and safety rules but...effective I guess
🤯🤯🤯 never would’ve guessed this! I do need to watch that series
So fun facts, In The Evil Dead there's a "The Hills Have Eyes" poster in the basement (A Wes Craven Movie). Wes liked the little homage and had the movie Nancy is watching is The Evil Dead. In the Evil Dead 2 there's a Freddy glove above the shed's inside door.
So much in this film - rich backstory for the villain, collective guilt of the victims’ parents ( and the victims are not just random teens), a razor glove, a little number poem about Freddy, surreal nightmare scenarios. Many unique touches for a slasher film.
😂😂😂 "he's an artisan of some sort"
That's one way to put it.😂😂
We're gonna need a supercut of characters saying the same thing right after Alanda does
for real!
I am TOO invested up in here. 😂😂😂 Livin in the minds of the characters
Best reaction to this film I've ever watched. I keep watching this since the first time I found it. Nancy is the best and you make the best comments. I'm truly glad and thankfull for this. 💜
Man ur reaction to this movie made me realize how alone Nancy was lol. u r golden.
Nancy is looking remarkably good for her 7th day without sleep. I'm a very curious and slightly crazy person so several years ago I decided to see what would happen if i stayed awake as long as possible. I made a tiny mistake by scheduling it during a time I went to a comedy show at Sydney Harbour. It was my third night without sleep and I barely made it home. By night 4 my neurons were misfiring and my vision was just spots everywhere. Around 10am on day 5 I collapsed and slept for almost 48 hours. No way Nancy is still that coherent a week in.
😂 Not “Fredrick”! You’re too funny 😁
Each video I find a new favorite quote. “A strength of a thousand bitches.” Is definitely top 3.
Getting sucked into a bed of LED’s 😂 girl I love you vibe i subscribed
She said, “Making me nervous. Lemme sip this margarita.” 🤣🤣🤣
I saw this movie for the first time at 11, roughly a year after it came out, on HBO. My previous horror movie viewings were limited to the first couple Friday the 13th movies and some episodes of the Elvira show from the early 80s. Freddy gave me crazy nightmares for months; of course, I was watching part two about six months later on a rented VHS tape. I was hooked on horror for life after that.
“It’s harder to fight for your life if you have to push your tits out the way” 😂 had me laughing. Love your reactions always. You always make me laugh lol good job. Keep it movin ✌🏽
Watch Part 3! Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors to see what happens to Nancy.
Got some oldies but goodies maybe. "Gremlins", "batteries not included", "Short Circuit 1 and 2, and 1988 "The Blob"
Batteries should be better known, really liked that film in addition to the others
The Blob '88 lurches between brutal and goofy and it, is, GLORIOUS.
@@Haplo699g love this one more than I should, it's great

Imagine the ending of every horror movie of the 80s: “teen tells parents about psycho killer (at camp/ in dreams/ roaming streets..), parent takes kid to therapy.” Lol
I love your reactions. You always have the funniest lines. Very witty.
If I'm ever in a super traumatic situation and someone asks me how I'm doing, I'm definitely shouting "TRAUMATIZED AS FUCK" at them.
-What's Johnny gonna do if something does pop off?
-"I'm gonna punch out your ugly lights, whoever you are..."
Well there's your answer. 🤣
Freddy’s glove was designed by Sean Cunningham, who took inspiration from nature and based the weapon on the claws of a grizzly bear.
I am 42 years old, have seen this movie dozens of times, and this is the first time that I've ever noticed that Nancy had a hidden coffee machine in her room. Thank you for that.
Of course, I would wonder why her parents never noticed the smell of coffee coming from her room, but hey, movie logic. :D
she really pulled it from under her nightstand like it was nothing 🤣
@@AlandaParker, that's probably why I missed it. It was so nonchalant.
So many times a person won't notice something, no matter how obvious it should be, simply because they're not expecting to see it there.
Why Alanda's observation about Nancy really struggling to survive with no help is the epitome of how I feel that most 80s children were raised? Literally fending for themselves and never being believed by adults.🤦🏾♀ Sadly it's in almost every 80s early 90s movie that exist.
I live for your commentary🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾This is my all-time favorite horror movie❤️💚
Of the Big Three, Halloween, Friday the 13th and Nightmare, the Nightmare series has always been my favorite. The first one scared the crap out of me when I was a kid, but they're not particularly scary and they always had an air of humor about them and didn't take themselves too seriously, even from the beginning. I also really like Depp, so this one has a place in my heart.
Ok so I was introduced to this movie as a ten year old living on Elm Street in my hometown! It traumatized me for life but I love it! I'm so glad this is the video that introduced me to your channel! Call me subscribed! Your reactions are BRILLIANT!
I would have packed my lil 10 year old suitcase and ran for it 🤣🤣🤣!!!
And thank you 💛😊
3:10 Actually, everyone CAN train themselves to lucid dream. Here's how: Everytime when you wake up, immediately write down everything you remember in a dream journal. The first few days it'll just be a few sentences of images that you vaguely remember. Within a week or two you will start remembering your dreams in much greater detail and within a few weeks you'll be able to control your dreams.
