I would love to have 12 months of Mayonnaise screeching and shrieking cat curses! screams, and growls lol all in huge photos on my wall each month. It would make my day!

I swear with these long haired seniors the matting just appears. My family has a 17 year old ragdoll and every night for as long as I can remember, he lays happily in my dad’s lap while my dad carefully works out the tangles in his chest and tummy. My mom usually does it during the day if she feels one starting. Without fail, this cat wakes up the next day with a dozen more. I’m starting to think he just enjoys the attention… ❤ I don’t think Mayo shares the sentiment😂
Sadly the senior cats aren't great at keeping up with appearance :( I'm learning that with two of mine . He smells and needs a bath and she gets matted lol
My rag doll is the same age and we have the same issue with her, unfortunately however she hates brushing so it’s a nightmare trying to handle all the matting the poor thing gets
I have a domestic long hair that fortunately doesn't get matted despite having the the softest, most luxurious, fluffy fur ever but she still gets regular brushing not because she needs it but because the absolutely LOVES it. Seriously, she comes running every time I pull out the brush.
No cause the stress is so high that there is no learning opportunity. Animals snap under stress, predators attack, and prey run away or try to die........but I would assume a groomer won't know all this.......looks above well-being!!!!!!
@@Mmm-nj5dkhe was matted so he needed to be shaved. He is also a perisan a breed unable to clean himself properly he needs to be washed, brushed and sometimes shaved. Its about his well being not his looks.
I had a rough, tough tomcat named Magellan when I was a kid. He didn't like anyone but me. Then a few years later we got a kitten (named Attila) and he tolerated him OK. Atilla had been found as a stray in a petting zoo so he had fleas and was FILTHY. I gave him a bath and big brother Magellan came FLYING into the bathroom trying to save the baby from me 😂

My elderly gentleman (Toby, 20) is a domestic shorthair. 4 years ago during covid there was a massive issue with my workplace using a cleaner that was so potent that many of the workers pets were losing their fur and getting itchy from allergic reactions to the remnants of it on their owners hands. My sweet boy was one of them. It was almost impossible to find somebody who would give him a bath so that he could finally have some relief. It's really distressing to me to know that people simply don't want to help cats, or don't know how to. There was a location I went to called "the pet groomer'. When I called they told me they only handle dogs. I asked them why then they decided to call themselves 'the pet groomer' instead of 'the dog groomer'. Toby is all well now and still going strong despite his age. Tldr, thank you for helping those of us who have no other choice but to potentially do it ourselves

I can still see that sudden dead silence and then the "look" clear as day that one cat gave me and I swear I never felt so threatened in my life at that moment. His brother just accepted his fate, but this one? He was gonna rip me apart in the enclosed shower.
The story about mayonnaise’s sibling attacking the owner tickled me. The same thing happened to me 30 years ago when I bathed my daughter’s cat, Boots for fleas. He yowled and fought me as I tried to keep him in our bath tub. Then all of a sudden, our other cat, Mischief, came in and clawed my butt as I was bent over the side of the tub. This bathroom had two doors. If anyone had been watching, they would have died laughing to see me trying to hold Boots in the tub while pushing Mischief out of the bathroom with my foot and closing the door behind him. I knew I had to bathe Mischief next and was afraid he’d tear me to shreds. But when I put him in the tub, on the screen (so he could have something to hold onto with his claws), he just clung there and whimpered pathetically.
When I was grooming, we called the matting behind the ears "Love Mats" because people tend to rub behind the ears of their pets, which causes matting over time. Some get absolutely massive, so we would try to teach our clients with that issue to pet and then brush out where they were clumping the fur with their fingers to help combat that.
"I have diarrhea! I feel like crud. And now the humans subject me to a bath at home, and then a shave at the groomers? I hate, with a hater's hateful hate!" LOLOL
When we got my kitty shaved we specifically requested no lion cut cause we thought it looked dumb on her. Instead we requested "the boots with the fur" and she kept little booties ❤
Vanessa, a little tip for a swatter cat to put a hand guard on your brushes. Get a 2 liter soda bottle and cut the top off. Put your brush handle through the spout area (trim that out if your brush handle is too large) and hold the handle on the inside of where the bottle was. Trim the bottle side around your wrist to create a guard like you would see on a fencing foil. That will give you protection from a cat that likes to swat and you still have a clear see through to manipulate your brush to get where you need too on the cat. Good luck.
@@Eloraurora It's not really possible to do it with clippers as the base is too large on them. It works with brushes pretty easy as long as they have a longer handle. But fencing brushes...yep...en'garde pussy cat!

Like most hustlers, Mayo doesn't like it when you call him by his government name "Mayonnaise". He already knows he's in trouble if he's on Vanessa's table, and then he hears his full name. 😢
We are SO fortunate that our vet also does sedated grooming, otherwise there's no way our silky Maine Coon cat wouldn't be anything but one big matted ball of felt all year round. He recently got his first lion cut, and he's like a completely different cat. Those mats really do hurt, and made it so hard for him to run around, play, groom, or really anything except eat, sleep and be grumpy.

I'm always happy when you give us the Angriest Condiment :) It is amazing how house cats who don't particularly like each other will still express angry solidarity if they think one of their number is under attack. I had a similar experience many years ago, helping a friend give her new kitten a much-needed flea bath: the kitten cried non-stop, and the senior cat (who despised the kitten) came into the bathroom to denounce us all in the strongest possible terms.
For cats like this you need a tangle teezer. That’s how I maintain my angora. It’s actually made for detangling curly human hair but it is amazing for long hair cats. The bristles are soft on their skin and it gathers shed fur . My cats love it because it feels nice on their skin, unlike the metal ones that are scratchy. You can find them at target.

i am so grateful that all of my cats are short-haired, and can groom themselves, there's no worry of matting and i can see if there's an issue i can help them with

So I love watching the videos, and usually my husband does not partake in my enjoyment of insert animal name here getting bathed and groomed. Playtex Handsaver Gloves. The ones that cover your entire forearm. They will protect against scratches and bites from cats. Have used them for years when grooming kitty and they have not been able to penetrative the rubber or whatever material it is that they're made from.
Leo’s Paws makes a flexible comb that can ‘gently’ comb the long fur and especially the face. Doesn’t work quickly but my part Maine Coon tolerates me combing him for a few minutes. Also I use very small scissors to trim small mattes before they get big, but first try gently pulling them apart a little at a time while offering can food or treats. Just a few suggestions for long fur cats that hate, bite, scratch for regular brushing.
You should get a pillow case with a draw string you can tie around the neck of kitties for working on the face, doesn't take much to open the hem up and run a cord or ribbon through it for that use. We used to do something similar when working on problem kittes when I worked as a Vet tech years ago. We could suspend them, and pass a single foot out of the bottom of the pillow case through a hole we cut into a corner so we could start an IV to sedate them. If your handy with a sewing machine or have someone willing to do it for you, you could even make a "pillow case" out of some canvas to make it more durable and even put a couple of zippers over a couple of 2-4 inch holes (5-10cm) for one leg at a time to be removed at a time for you to clip nails, shave, etc...
I can’t help but feel sorry for the Spicy Mayonnaise! He can’t help having explosive diarrhoea! He must feel so embarrassed having to not only have a bath but then to be shaved. Totally naked. Even his bo jangles and head! No wonder he’s spicy. If someone force washed me in a bath and then got someone else to shave my entire body I’d be pissed off too! That said, I still absolutely LOVE watching him get groomed and I LOVE watching and listening to you do it. I have a Ginger Maine Coon and thankfully he LOVED being brushed. The most relatable moment for me, as a cat owner, was when Mayo is growling and hissing and Vanessa just says "yeah yeah yeah" and continues working.

When we got my kitty shaved we specifically requested no lion cut cause we thought it looked dumb on her. Instead we requested "the boots with the fur" and she kept little booties ❤

Vanessa, a little tip for a swatter cat to put a hand guard on your brushes. Get a 2 liter soda bottle and cut the top off. Put your brush handle through the spout area (trim that out if your brush handle is too large) and hold the handle on the inside of where the bottle was. Trim the bottle side around your wrist to create a guard like you would see on a fencing foil. That will give you protection from a cat that likes to swat and you still have a clear see through to manipulate your brush to get where you need too on the cat. Good luck.

@@Eloraurora It's not really possible to do it with clippers as the base is too large on them. It works with brushes pretty easy as long as they have a longer handle. But fencing brushes...yep...en'garde pussy cat!

My 4yr old British shorthair SAVAGED me when I bought my little rag doll boy home, she forgave me but she still hates him 3mths on. If I were to bathe him, she would probably come in & try to drown him herself!

We are SO fortunate that our vet also does sedated grooming, otherwise there's no way our silky Maine Coon cat wouldn't be anything but one big matted ball of felt all year round. He recently got his first lion cut, and he's like a completely different cat. Those mats really do hurt, and made it so hard for him to run around, play, groom, or really anything except eat, sleep and be grumpy.

It is amazing how house cats who don't particularly like each other will still express angry solidarity if they think one of their number is under attack. I had a similar experience many years ago, helping a friend give her new kitten a much-needed flea bath: the kitten cried non-stop, and the senior cat (who despised the kitten) came into the bathroom to denounce us all in the strongest possible terms.

For cats like this you need a tangle teezer. That’s how I maintain my angora. It’s actually made for detangling curly human hair but it is amazing for long hair cats. The bristles are soft on their skin and it gathers shed fur . My cats love it because it feels nice on their skin, unlike the metal ones that are scratchy. You can find them at target.

I love that Mayo’s mate came to his rescue. lol. When my hubby would pounce on me and tickle me, I would yell for help from my kitty Tigger and she bite her boy on the toe. It was hilarious. Don’t worry, I wasn’t crying, I was laughing from being tickled. Tigger was feisty ❤

So I love watching the videos, and usually my husband does not partake in my enjoyment of insert animal name here getting bathed and groomed. Playtex Handsaver Gloves. The ones that cover your entire forearm. They will protect against scratches and bites from cats. Have used them for years when grooming kitty and they have not been able to penetrative the rubber or whatever material it is that they're made from.

Leo’s Paws makes a flexible comb that can ‘gently’ comb the long fur and especially the face. Doesn’t work quickly but my part Maine Coon tolerates me combing him for a few minutes. Also I use very small scissors to trim small mattes before they get big, but first try gently pulling them apart a little at a time while offering can food or treats. Just a few suggestions for long fur cats that hate, bite, scratch for regular brushing.

You should get a pillow case with a draw string you can tie around the neck of kitties for working on the face, doesn't take much to open the hem up and run a cord or ribbon through it for that use. We used to do something similar when working on problem kittes when I worked as a Vet tech years ago. We could suspend them, and pass a single foot out of the bottom of the pillow case through a hole we cut into a corner so we could start an IV to sedate them. If your handy with a sewing machine or have someone willing to do it for you, you could even make a "pillow case" out of some canvas to make it more durable and even put a couple of zippers over a couple of 2-4 inch holes (5-10cm) for one leg at a time to be removed at a time for you to clip nails, shave, etc...

I can’t help but feel sorry for the Spicy Mayonnaise! He can’t help having explosive diarrhoea! He must feel so embarrassed having to not only have a bath but then to be shaved. Totally naked. Even his bo jangles and head! No wonder he’s spicy. If someone force washed me in a bath and then got someone else to shave my entire body I’d be pissed off too!
That said, I still absolutely LOVE watching him get groomed and I LOVE watching and listening to you do it.
I have a Ginger Maine Coon and thankfully he LOVED being brushed. To the point that when he sees that you have the brush he will come running!
