After watching your video, i did some work to my boat. im not able to purchase an adjustable Jack plate at this time, after alot of research, i found that raising the motor so that the cavitation plate is just above the deadrise or the straight path back from flat on the hull. i just finished my project and am about to give her a sea trial, lol. also just above the raw water intakes on the lower unit, Your vids have been very valuable to me, what a great channel, thanks my friend.
Now I know what a jack plate does, thanks for explaining it so well. Cheers from a UK subscriber :-)
Jack plates are the best! Great hole shot, great top end! You’ll love it! 👍🏻
Why not just mount the motor at the height the jack plate performed best at??? why would you want to return the motor to the low position were it performed the worst? Get rid of the multi position high dollar jack plate and just mount the motor higher on a fixed aluminum mounting plate!!
Nice set up.
Keep checking the mounting bolts as we all know , things tend to loosen from all that vibration.
wow, Those numbers are amazing. i have a simular motor, a Suzuki 40hp that ive been adjusting and tweeking out for performance.im picking up a 4 blade stainless 14" pitch prop. i hope it adds a little. ill let you know how it works.
Great video. I have a Grizzly (Bass Pro) Tracker Marine Jon Boat with a 25 hp 4 stroke Merc and I have watched your video several times in my research to improve my boat's performance. Thank you very much.
What size?
Awesome .....love the two strokes....
Dude you ARE insane 😂😂😂😂 Its a wonder the boat didnt break LOL 👏👏👏👏👏
Yami 2strokes are bullet proof ! Awesome 👍 video
Pretty sweet. So you have a provided water source at the ramp to rinse your motor? Nice
I got really worried for you when you throttled it up with the motor all the way down. The amount of additional drag created by doing that was incredible and evident by all the water rising up between the swivel bracket and transom. Interesting experiment though.
Holy crap Ola! That little 40 really move that boat
That's a good way to get the leaves out of your boat.
Sorry guys i couldn't with the noise, with the jack plate he increased his speed from how much to how much? thx!!!
@@yeouda 37 with and 30 at regular height
I thought he shit his pants and little terds were flying
No Shit!!! I was thinking, "dude, clean your boat out, damn." I was wondering what all that shit was that was flying out and then remembered seeing all kinds of nastiness on the floor when he was doing the install. Good job on resolving your issue but damn!
After watching this video I went and purchased myself an atlas micro Jacker. Thanks for the honest review
Run it like ya stole it....awesome.... * put a piece of OAK between motor clamps and transom ... ;-) thumbs up !!
Where do you find all these outboards? I'm going to build a lumber yard skiff, and I can never seem to find a project outboard. Love all your vids, entertaining and helpful
When you lowered the jack plate all the way down were you able to clear the transom with the screw in motor mounts? It looks like they would hit the transom before you could get the motor all the way down.
Ive got a 14 48 with pods and i have a 55hp on the back. I have a manual jack plate. I had to put 300lbs of weight upfront to keep boat from porposing but when i did it still pushed it 32mph. I just ordered me a ozhydrofoil for my motor when i get it installed im gonna remove weight to see if it makes a diffrence.
Very fast for 40 HP. Those John boats are light and manageable.
Hey man, I’m in this same situation. I have a 99 Yamaha 40hp TLRX long shaft. I want to put it on my 18’ Jon Boat, however it also has a 15” transom. I believe I am going to have to go this route with a jack plate to make it work.
My question is the transom on your boat. Is it all welded aluminum or is it wood? Do you have extra braces or just the two transom arms?
You’re the only guy I’ve seen do this, if you could get with me that would be greatly appreciated! Thank you and appreciate your content!
It seems to make it a lot smoother when it’s lifted also
definitely, with it down you could see it struggling a lot more.
It just occurred to me that a jack plate like that might help keep me from having to drill different holes and patch the old ones when it comes time to replace my 1976 Evinrude to something like a Yamaha. Any thoughts on that???
Man I never knew that my leg was too far down past the transom. This explains so much.
I think you might want to Google some videos on setting cavitation plate height in engine pitch cuz I heard that thing cavitating when you took off having it raise that high. Other than that that's a really cool deal.
It was not too bad to have a cavitation plate. It was only in the beginning, cavitation plates are more for a full tunnel boat.
Very nice that jackplate......👌✌
Man that looks like a wild ride. 😳
Do you have to get the Micro Jacker Clamp-on Motor Adapter to go along with the micro Jacker for mounting the motor?
Them premix yamahas are bullet proof! I had a 90 yamaha in a 16’ center console i bought in 2000 ran the shit out of it sold it in 2010 current owner has had zero issues besides swapping impellers and general maintenance which pretty much is just plugs an fuel filter. Damn i Miss that 90!
Josh Frank those Nissans were awesome too!
Nice work. if you are pleased with that prop, lose that cheap fin you have attached. They are typically just a band aid for a poor set up. That 40 with the right prop and that jackplate is all you need to get on plane as fast as you'll ever get. Your top speed would likely increase without it.
He will only gain what about 2mph or might even lose 2 removing that hydrofoil.
Why not just mount the motor at the height the jack plate performed best at??? why would you want to return the motor to the low position were it performed the worst? Get rid of the multi position high dollar jack plate and just mount the motor higher on a fixed aluminum mounting plate!!
I use a whale tail great for getting up quick but it drags my boat A 70 4 stroke my next motor the 60 tlra still rock n it’s an 02
We had a evinrude 50 2 stroke with oil injection we still pre mixed fuel with oil even tho it injected oil and it ran great up until we smoked a rock and blew up the lower unit I recommend when you have a oil injected engine juts mix fuel anyway it’s good for it
Thank god I needed this video. May I ask why u decided with Atlas Vs Bobs jack plates?
Awesome video.
when you get on playing till it's your motor up it will help even more and then put it back down when you take off
A worthwhile addition to your boat ;Increase in speed with the jack plate on.The 20" long shaft motor goes deeper in the water on max adjustment at the flick of a switch on your boat that has a 15" transom..did you have to strengthen the transom before fitting it?
Why not just mount the motor at the height the jack plate performed best at??? why would you want to return the motor to the low position were it performed the worst? Get rid of the multi position high dollar jack plate and just mount the motor higher on a fixed aluminum mounting plate!!
@@darrengillesdarrengilles8336 I suppose having the multi-position jack plate is good when you may be using 2 different motors, which may have different dimensions.
What did the Jackplate run you? That thing looked nice!
Does the jack plate play any difference in how the boat rides? (As far as trim) I'm looking for a solution to my boat, at 3/4 throttle and above, my bow digs in too much and my trim is adjusted all of the way out
I just ordered the same Atlas "micro plate" for my tracker that has a new Mercury 60hp, 4 stroke.
Then I saw this video... The one I ordered was $768. I saw one on a guys skiff that had a 75 on it, and knew it would be perfect for the tracker!
Hows it doing
Great
I just ordered one (TH Marine Microjacker) for my Tracker 1448 that has a 4 stroke 25 merc. I hope it helps me get my cavitation plate above the bottom of the boat. I have also added floatation sponsons on the back that kick it up on a plane better, but don't help with the height of the motor on the transom. I love the boat, but the porpoising is driving me crazy.
Why not just mount the motor at the height the jack plate performed best at??? why would you want to return the motor to the low position were it performed the worst? Get rid of the multi position high dollar jack plate and just mount the motor higher on a fixed aluminum mounting plate!!
Really fun to watch !.... I wonder if you can get a few more MPH with a higher pitch prop ?
It depends where his rpms were at. Maybe was already in the correct range. He did not say
I recently bought a RIB which calls for a 15” shaft motor. However, I couldn’t pass up a great deal and ended with a Yamaha f9.9 20” shaft. Should I get a jack plate or is it ok if I run the boat with the Yamaha 20” shaft? Any cons?
The grom in the background 😍😍😍
what about your water intake and prop? you have to go higher than the water pick up! see bobs machine shop for that. and r&r prop shop in vegas for speed. he's go a lot of good used props etc! great prop guy. he'll spend the time to talk!.
Why not just mount the motor at the height the jack plate performed best at??? why would you want to return the motor to the low position were it performed the worst? Get rid of the multi position high dollar jack plate and just mount the motor higher on a fixed aluminum mounting plate!!
Like your videos, thanks for sharing! Have one question, when will you pimp your boat? :-)
I know its a long time ago but that made the engine soooo much smoother too
Do you get these motors with tillers on the or do you put them on?
I would highly recommend putting a 150 Optimax on that boat! It will give you a thrill you’ll never forget!
I would if i can make a tiller fit
Mercurys are too slow
@@ThatBoatGuy dude, you can get a tiller 200....they run em plate boats for fishin on river all time
@@Joetrout better than a johnarude thats out of production
Garry Mainer an mercurys are no good! yamaha is the way to go
Nice Jackplate
First 40 Yamaha are legendary reliable and they go hard and second that jacking plate is awesome for your set up. Don’t know if you need a 90 on that boat unless you’re going to put 6 people in it. Don’t need that foil with power trim. I would rather mix my own fuel also. Good job 👍
What is your boat rated for? Have t seen the coast guard placard that's usually on the transom. Isn't it illegal to go above the hp rating on that coast guard placard
@that boat guy so I have a 200 hp yamaha v6. Can I take the oil injection system off of the motor and just use premixed ? Or would that not be a good idea because of the large fuel tank. Help
You're crazy...in a good way! Nice bid.
That jack plate is worth more than that boat, lol. Super cool addition though.
That transom def didn’t like the motor all the way up it was bouncing all over the place but nice motor and the top was up lol
Looks fun
There is always a smart alec so don't worry about the comments. Thanks for the video I like it !!!!!!
How did you go about deleting your oil reservoir and pump on your Yamaha? Looking to do the same on my 03 90
you need to play with the height just a bit so you can find the sweet spot for it to run the best, without putting too much strain on the transom
How much did this run you?? Im pretty sure i need one but Im a low rent operation my motor only cost me 1200 and boat 800 so i cant spend much
hey Dude, here in Ireland on the Lake Corrib it is all about bottom clearance so a lot of us run short shafts afraid to knock off the propeller on a rock
But u run short shaft on a short shaft transom..
Could you pass the model of all the items you bought? I would like to buy the same for my boat
The jackplate will allow you have the outboard an inch or two above the bottom of the boat. More efficient that way.
Why not just mount the motor at the height the jack plate performed best at??? why would you want to return the motor to the low position were it performed the worst? Get rid of the multi position high dollar jack plate and just mount the motor higher on a fixed aluminum mounting plate!!
Iv’e testet the same unit with a v6 Yamaha, it worked butt it took some time to raise from lowest to highest😂
The jack plate is worth more than the boat. lol
Nice motor
Jackplate’s obviously increase efficacy at higher speeds, but could they also be used to reduce fuel consumption, effectively extending maximum range at lower speeds? I’m curious how various engine/prop heights would affect fuel consumption at a specific cruising speed. Say, 10 MPH.
decrease in drag means better economy. Right length shaft will save you cost, hassle and weight
where are you running around n this vid it looks so familiar ? I am just north of tampa fla
jack plates are almost a requirement on river boats out in the southwest.
When the jack plate is worth more than the boat 😂🤣
there nothing wrong with that.
Or when the jackplate makes the owner happy....
I got a better boat but can’t afford the jack plate. We take what we can!
I really want one
I bet he can get into places you can’t tho..or, I guess a better term would be, places you’re afraid of taking your boat
Your going to indonesia
I’m sorry but the name micro jacker cracks me up XD
So much better with the Jack plate
so if u have a boat that u need a short rigg motor on u can use that jackplate so u can put on a long rigg?
Friend, your boat was really cool with the Jackplate, help me please, what is the number of this Jackplate? I also need a yamaha 40hp joystick trim button, but yamaha needs the engine serial number, as mine has no trim, they can't sell me, can you help me with that trim button too? I live in Brazil and here everything is very difficult to get.
big hug.
very nice! to bad the motors are bricks! dead weight! or a semi flat bottom to carry the boat. and get a surface prop! your set up for your prop.
I know this is an older vid but Im building a livingston micro cat with a center console its 13 ft and rated for a 25hp remote. People tell me its unsafe to power it with anything more I wanted like a 35-50 hp (everything I own has x2 power then stock) ive never messed with outboards before but in your experience if I move weight forward I should be able to have a little more weight aft? Also looking at the atlas micro jacker did it hold up over time? Thanks for the continued great boat build and flips👍
It’s not a problem with weight but tearing the transom off with torque
Do you use a second or extra battery for the jackplate?
You can also buy a vertical extension and mount it 5 inch higher for the correct height
Where at?
Why not just mount the motor at the height the jack plate performed best at??? why would you want to return the motor to the low position were it performed the worst? Get rid of the multi position high dollar jack plate and just mount the motor higher on a fixed aluminum mounting plate!!
That motor on a spitfire
Yay!
That looks really familiar. Where in Florida is that? I was raised on the intercoastal in Brevard. I live in Vero now. I can never seem to move away lol.
You all prolly dont give a damn but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost my login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Misael Benton instablaster =)
@Jaime Wells Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out now.
Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Jaime Wells it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out !
@Misael Benton no problem :)
Where did you buy the jack plate and what was the cost. Thanks
Hey, I'm a new subscriber. Really like your content. Just curious, the fresh water you used at that ramp was that supplied by the town or do you have a tank to run the muffs with? Cheers
Supplied by the ramp
Blew my mind when i realized you were launching from jungle prada. Small world neighbor.
Ditto! It's great to see a local doing so well. :)
Hey man, other than speed, how else did the jack plate affect the way the boat ran? Does the bow of the boat ride higher / lower?
higher
Nice grom
Excessive spray looks like you could get more out of it by remounting the jackplate.
I’ve been using one of them for 2 years now and it’s still working well.
Yeah it better be!
Why not just mount the motor at the height the jack plate performed best at??? why would you want to return the motor to the low position were it performed the worst? Get rid of the multi position high dollar jack plate and just mount the motor higher on a fixed aluminum mounting plate!!
Every time you say jackplate I laugh😂😂😂😂😂😂
I heard eBay notification and checked my phone haha
pretty boat and engine
Did you mock it up before you drilled the holes
Motor Absolutely Beautiful Yamaha Run For LIFE
Going 37mph is a great way to get leaves out of your boat!
I made my own jackplate... Same design like yours, but not motorized...
is your water intake in the water it looks close on the top setting
Good Job! What was the differential distance between the hull and cavitation plate at 37 mph?
What app is that on your phone for the speedometer
She moves!
Cool video
nice grom
Brandon/Tampa here would love to meet up!
When the jackplate is all the way down thats kind of what my uncles boat looks like lol
