    Outstanding video, that thing rips! I just love running creeks and bayous, it's just so much more fun than open water. I've got an old Monark 1552 with a 50 Evinrude that I bought new in 1986, it has the original SST 21" prop not great holeshot but a good cruiser and good fuel economy tops out about 38 with a passenger and gear. Spent much of my life running Dorcheat Bayou in N Louisiana, pretty curvy but there are some straights where you can fly. I'll be running the bayou later this week for the first time in nearly 20 years, it is so timely that your video popped up on my feed, it got me excited to see my old haunts. Thanks for posting I really like your rig!

    • @cwisted5308
      @cwisted5308 2 года назад +1

      @@landonbaker7859 The engine will kick up really quick if you hit something in the water. Its very helpful to have one in shallow water. Especially in a place where you are unsure of where shallow logs are. Not a dumb question at all by the way! Sone outboard engines have a "breakaway" as well which means if you hit something underwater that's hard enough to tear off the engine it will only take off the lower half of the entire engine like the propeller. Its to make sure you don't rip off the entire engine and lose it.

    I have a question and hoping im at the right place. Was wondering about taking a 20 hp 14 foot, V bottom boat on the manistee river. Ill have a prop guard to protect the prop and lower unit and plan on moving at a safe slower speed. It that possible to take a 3 bladed prop boat in tbe big manistee without creating damage to engine or boat?
    Thanks in advance!!
    P.S. boat is an aluminum boat.

    • @tcboutdoors6898
      @tcboutdoors6898  Год назад

      I’m not too familiar with the river up there but rocks and lower units are not good friends. If you are just easing around you should be fine just make sure your motor is set to where it will kick up if you hit something. Also throw a spare aluminum prop or two in the boat. Just in case! If current is rough I would be hesitant in a 14ft but that’s up to the captain!

    • @tcboutdoors6898
      @tcboutdoors6898  2 года назад

      It just depends on the lake. On that lake a 10mph wind could sink a bass boat. But it handles waves very well and keeps you dry! I don’t like riding in anything more than about 3 foot swells.

San Joaquin to be specific it varies in depth but at the shallow parts or small rapids it can get as shallow as 6 inches maybe less so I’m wondering if you’re going fast and know you’re about to scrape or hit the prop on the bottom is it easy to tilt the prop out of the water quickly so it doesn’t get destroyed on the rocks/sand.
