Are you going to be outside in extreme cold weather? There are 2 golden rules to staying warm. First, you must dress so that you stay warm because you can’t get warm again if you get cold. Second, dress in lots of layers because if you get hot, you can take it off. However, if you get cold and don’t have the layers, you can’t put it back on. Three layers are a must: 1) thermal underwear; 2) pants and fleece; 3) windbreaker shell with neck warmer, boots, mitts and a toque. You may also consider ski goggles.

These tips are especially important in the mountains, where it's colder. A suggestion I have is to make sure you have an extra pair of socks, just in case your other pair ends up soaking wet.
