You do know tho that bucks travel upwards of 7 miles or so during the rut. I’ve had something happen where I was watching a buck out the window and my uncle shot that buck 4 hours later about 3 miles down the road. The buck crossed a 4 lane highway. Went through a parking lot walked through 4 yards and went through a cherry orchard and got shot under an apple tree feeding on winter wheat. At 4:30 in the afternoon.
Great video…I grew up outside of Wilmington but I don’t know the cj dude personally. After that first podcast he went on and after some of my own digging, I knew the deer wasn’t takin legally. I hope Ohio makes an example, I can’t stand a poacher.
His sisters property actually looks like a prime spot. One of the best spots i got is 10 acres and borders some railroad tracks. It looks just like that. Also its not uncommon like people think for a deer to cover 10 miles and in a short period of time. Idk whether the guy is guilty or not and haven't really looked into this case so dont flip out on me. Im just saying that property actually looks good and ive seen the same bucks on trail cams that are miles apart in the same day or night. Circumstantial evidence shouldn't be enough to convict a person of any crime. And i also question the political sway the people accusing a person might have.
CJ said he didn’t see the buck fall yet it stayed on his sisters property? That is what is fishy to me. The property is mostly all open field and only 9 acres so if the buck truly did die on his sisters property, then CJ would’ve saw it die.
I agree with you that the sisters property itself doesn't look horrible. But to shoot the buck with bow and buck didn't leave the 9 acres, and they didn't recover until next day is suspicious. As far as bucks moving, just last year I shot a nice buck that was over 5 miles away all fall. Rut will make bucks move.
I'm not hating on this guy. I've seen the state get it wrong before. I know deer can go twenty miles a day no problem. When the does are hot it's game on. This guy will get his day in court, and I hope he is innocent. If he's not he will get the penalty the Judge gives him.

With all the laws CJ has broken it's highly unlikely he killed that buck legally. This happens all the time but a really big deer like this brings a lot more attention. A big buck was killed in my state many years ago and was on the cover of North American whitetail magazine and was killed in bow season. A friend of mine knows the guy and said he actually killed it with a shotgun. It's disgusting. It happens so often that when someone does it the right legal way there is still suspicion.

Were those properties surrounding the area being hunted by other hunters? Are there any trail cam photos that will come out in trial that capture CJ on foot on Nov 9 or Nov 10? Was he getting dropped off and picked up so that he was not parking nearby?
@@HuntSuburbia So the lt land is owned by Robbie Roberts which owns r&l trucking and robbers arena. They don't let anybody hunt there. I have not heard anything about actual trail camera. I hear you… and your line of logic has some greed in it too. And it really sucks as a new hunter to not be welcomed into a sport because all of you who have been hunting feel like all the deer that you’ve seen belong to you… just because you’re aware and have seen something many times, means it belongs to you. All it means is you have garnered a desire for it and thus somehow marked it, like a bear, as “your deer”. This attitude ruins the sport as much as poachers, congrats… your the other half of the problem
That was just part of his story. He wasn't hunting at his sisters anyway they took the deer there. I would say she had nothing to do with it. CJ and his buddies did all the dirty work. She is guilty of lying for him to try and cover it all up.
I am pretty sure she told the officers that she didn't sign the permission slip until November 13th. That's the only way CJ gets charged on that. So they were probably lenient on her for being truthful.

Do they have direct evidence of the actual kill spot ? Not worried about distance bucks travel every year further than that when the rut starts. Plus big deer are everywhere over there and in town.
Thank you for breaking down all this information. I believe the jury should view your video for a recap of the case. I realize past incidents are not SUPPOSED to be used in a case but his past unlawful record of “poaching” incidents should be used as a character witness. POACHERS give hunters a bad name!! Great video
One thing i dont think people realize is, All 4 people being charged will be splitting the trophy fee on this buck.CJ wont pay this full fine himself unless he is man enough to do so for his sister and friends. The "Spread" will not be included due to the trophy fine being for "Inches" of antler not the score of the rack. Atleast thats how previous cases im familiar with, with multiple people and trophy bucks were handled.
As i said, in cases im very familiar with.. The spread isnt included. The fine is suppose to be "per inch of antler" and thats what ive seen implemented. But you know judges can discriminate how they want and when a prosecuter throws down numbers most judges wont know the differnce. Could go either way but ive never seen the spread included in the cases i witnessed.
Great job explaining this. I hate being stuck on Jury’s but man would I like to be on this Jury. Just so I could see the exact evidence. CJ keeps his story so straight podcast to podcast and if he is guilty that’ll be really disturbing. If he’s guilty then CJ needs to be a salesman because he could sell ice to an Eskimo.
Very good job with breaking this down, I have also been following this since I first heard of this poaching incident. We all have these types of outlaws in our area and seen how they operate, I knew CJ was one of them since I listened to his very first story of the hunt, we all know what it takes to get a decent Buck legally and from the moment CJ opened his mouth red flags were going up everywhere. I strongly believe he took that record buck at night time like he did the buck at the church and probably many more illegal bucks that have gone under the radar.
Nobody likes a poacher and justice should be served...BUT...this is the epitome of the problem we have in American justice as a whole. He didn't just poach a deer. He killed a RECORD buck that the DA (or their family) had personal interest in. Anger and jealousy in the house of power means he will be charged with 374.2 crimes. If he had poached a doe...nobody would have heard about this, and frankly nobody would probably care. Poaching occurs THOUSANDS of times a year in the Midwest and yet it's not mainstream news. He poached a record buck that the prosecution likely had personal interest in and its huge news. If this were a doe he'd probably lose his license (likely for a year on the first offense) and maybe get a fine. Maybe worse..but probably not. Poached a monster buck near the prosecutors family land and you'll get crucified.... Shouldn't poaching be poaching? The crime is the crime? Is he guilty...most likely. Does anyone want this dude to walk away free...no. Does he deserve to be completely crucified....no. The law shouldn't be more severe because the size of the buck...or the personal interests of a prosecution. The law should be the same for a doe...or a squirrel. You think anyone would be making this a show if he poached a squirrel? This stinks of the law being used to avenge jealousy...not just to govern a person's actions like it should be.
Interesting point, I do agree that poaching is poaching, and it’s strange how we value animals differently . But at the end of the day hunting is a sport and there is a dollar value related to large whitetail. If poaching is poaching and hunting is hunting then high fence properties wouldn’t charge 50k for a 300” deer… I don’t think it’s right to do that but that’s a reality. Same thing with cattle if you steal a regular old cow worth 5000, that’s the value of the crime, but what if you steal a prized bull or wagyu cow.
Very comprehensive coverage of this story! Great job! Sadly, had he never went on those podcasts he probably would’ve gotten away with it! The story having a lot of red flags is what brought on all the heavy scrutiny! Unbelievably stupid and narcissistic to think he could get away with it! Good thing is that a guilty verdict would get his 150 inch poached buck confiscated as well!
Hey I'm watching your podcast I'm watching you talk about this it wasn't a DA that was hunting the deer it was a game warden and he was out for blood he didn't know who killed it but when CJ popped up with it on a podcast the game warden was out for blood I do think there's a lot going on behind the scenes that we do not know
What property was the game warden hunting? If it is near the DA property / Landrum / LT Land Dev properties, there is no way CJ could have killed it legally. I would be out for blood too if I had one of the few legal access / permissions to hunt a deer like that and saw someone killed it who didn't have the access.
Best video I've seen so far about this farce you call a hunter and his silly adventures,I feel bad the deer had to die by his arrow,he's not even worthy to even be in the same company as those deer....Btw this is my wife's RUclips handle...
Excellent break down and will look forward to the legal process take it's course on this. Poaching is pretty wide spread here in New England - one just has to sit out of a Walmart in MA that sells deer corn to see who is baiting - pretty obvious. Would be interesting to hear from some Game Wardens here on cases they have broke.
$2,000 + $8,000 = $10,000…that 10k in cash/ marketing from the trophy dude? Anyways, he’s real guilty and should be held accountable, but does the AG need to make 5 million charges for the same offense? Seems like just throwing everything on the wall to see what sticks.
Crazy the location he was spotlighting, basically in the middle of a neighborhood, I mean I can atleast understand the principle of poaching or breaking the law. But I mean he had to know that would get caught right there, absolutely maddening place to commit a crime like that u could see from a long way, literally shining a beam of light nearly into peoples homes
To be clear, poaching is completely pathetic, I just can understand people do lots of pathetic things but that crime is just beyond hard to believe someone dumb enough to do that.
I live in Ohio. And have friends from that area. They knew it was poached as soon as the pictures were posted. If he had all those charges he is an idiot for thinking he would get away with it. As hunters we really need to reflect on what we are doing. Poachers give all hunters black eyes amongst all anti hunters. I’ve killed a couple of nice bucks but to me my sons first deer and my wife’s first deer are memories I cherish over any memories of any deer I’ve gotten. In closing I believe we need to stop giving him his five minutes of fame. He didn’t help us he hurt us.
Those are nice deer! My biggest one so far is a 7 pointer that measured 16 inches at it widest spot. Idk what it would’ve scored his G2’s were 11” and 11.25”.. I hunt in north east ga..

I think dude killed it not where he says. Also, the miles don’t matter so that needs to not be a factor imo. We have had bucks killed 8 and 4.2 miles 24 hours and less later from being on our cams by neighbors crossing a highway on one Case and a river on the other. I put weight on all factors but not traveled distances

The property is mostly all open field and only 9 acres so if the buck truly did die on his sisters property, then CJ would’ve saw it die.
lol grow up, Peter Pan. Enough of your childhood innocence.
You haven't really looked into the case???
Well you just watched the most informative video on the case
I agree with you that the sisters property itself doesn't look horrible. But to shoot the buck with bow and buck didn't leave the 9 acres, and they didn't recover until next day is suspicious. As far as bucks moving, just last year I shot a nice buck that was over 5 miles away all fall. Rut will make bucks move.
The first two charges were not having a hunting license and not having a deer tag. Not sure how thats confusing?

Fantastic summary. Thank you.
I'm not hating on this guy. I've seen the state get it wrong before. I know deer can go twenty miles a day no problem. When the does are hot it's game on. This guy will get his day in court, and I hope he is innocent. If he's not he will get the penalty the Judge gives him.

Dude makes me sick sitting with these folks lying and acting like he’s some big time deer hunter like he’s been one all his life when he knows squat about hunting. Great video, thanks for showing..
There are big name tv hunters who not what they are. The one that broke my heart was Jimmy Houston.
When is the trial date?
I will have a video coming out soon that will have that info!
It was pushed back to August.

Do you live in the area? What have you heard as far as evidence they may have in terms of trail camera pictures of the buck in that area the day it was killed?

On access point there's a bike trail that goes by the landfill. I live about 15 minutes from there
What are the locals saying about this? Are there trailcam pictures of the buck from November 9th that will prove the buck was in the area and not the area of his sisters property? Were those properties surrounding the area being hunted by other hunters? Are there any trail cam photos that will come out in trial that capture CJ on foot on Nov 9 or Nov 10? Was he getting dropped off and picked up so that he was not parking nearby?
@@HuntSuburbia So the lt land is owned by Robbie Roberts which owns r&l trucking and robbers arena. They don't let anybody hunt there. I have not heard anything about actual trail camera. To my knowledge nobody has permission to hunt the landfill as it City owned or the LT land. I heard the same thing you did about them having a trailer camera picture of CJ but don't know anything factual now.
@@HuntSuburbia just barely south of the water treatment plant there's a bike path that runs back there that would give pretty good access to that off of Nelson
Awesome
I hear you… and your line of logic has some greed in it too. And it really sucks as a new hunter to not be welcomed into a sport because all of you who have been hunting feel like all the deer that you’ve seen belong to you… just because you’re aware and have seen something many times, means it belongs to you. All it means is you have garnered a desire for it and thus somehow marked it, like a bear, as “your deer”. This attitude ruins the sport as much as poachers, congrats… your the other half of the problem
The only person who wasn’t indicted that’s involved is cj’s gf….he said she picked him up after dark at his sisters property and no charges for her???
That was just part of his story. He wasn't hunting at his sisters anyway they took the deer there. I would say she had nothing to do with it. CJ and his buddies did all the dirty work. She is guilty of lying for him to try and cover it all up.
I am pretty sure she told the officers that she didn't sign the permission slip until November 13th. That's the only way CJ gets charged on that. So they were probably lenient on her for being truthful.
I hunt in my back yard in the city limits. There is a 750 acre timber company that covers 3 sides of my property.I don’t trophy hunt I’m a meat hunter.weather I’m bow hunting or pistol hunting I can kill 4 deer a year. But honestly I harvest 1 or 2 a year.So it is possible to harvest deer on very small parcels of land
Interesting case. Is the indictment made publicly accessible over the internet for viewing?
All legal documents can be accessed online. They are public and can be accessed through the PACER system.

Awesome job on the coverage. The deer in the back look bigger that 140. Must be camera angle
Do they have direct evidence of the actual kill spot ?
Not worried about distance bucks travel every year further than that when the rut starts.
Plus big deer are everywhere over there and in town.
Yup he's guilty. Should have never went on the huntr podcast.
Thank you for breaking down all this information. I believe the jury should view your video for a recap of the case. I realize past incidents are not SUPPOSED to be used in a case but his past unlawful record of “poaching” incidents should be used as a character witness. POACHERS give hunters a bad name!! Great video
I wish they prosecuted all poaching and trespassing cases in Ohio like this!
Atleast thats how previous cases im familiar with, with multiple people and trophy bucks were handled.
the fine will be based on gross score which includes spread and will most likely be assessed to the poacher
@@stevefulscher8531 you are correct, only trigger person will get the trophy fine.

@@hdelano11not when you get asked the same thing in different angles at random. I always pull for the underdog but it don't look good for the ole boy
I strongly believe he took that record buck at night time like he did the buck at the church and probably many more illegal bucks that have gone under the radar.
if there were more id think hed have them on display.
Sad buck won’t get good attention and he brought down lot of people with him from bad decisions. What a mess
If you going to do something wrong people and electronics will tell on you😂😂😂😂😂
We drive over deer tracks to hide them on the red dirt county roads around our property to try and help keep road hunters away
Good breakdown. I don't think that there is any doubt that this kid is a poacher.....allegedly.
No daylight photos of the buck after harvest. Huge red flag
@hdelano11 ridiculous. so ur sayn u can only hunt in the morning?
@@HuntSuburbiawhy could he have not possibly killed it ? Because of 10 miles?? No way.

Ya he was a poacher and im not trying to make light of that. But whats said is the kid was good at finding some big deer
