Congrats CJ! My 24 year old son decided he wanted to hunt this year after 8 years. Saturday evening we hunted about 200 yards apart and he did not see a deer. Sunday morning we hunted together on the ground and tucked into a fallen maple tree. At 9am he shot a 100" 8 point and it was a trophy to him. It was simply a magical day for both of us. To CJ's point, hunting together after 8 years was one of the best days of our lives.

Apparently he had verbal permission to hunt the property but not written permission in Ohio you have to have a written permission letter on your person at all times while hunting and during any recovery .I'm thinking it was one of those things like the sister said you can hunt just don't let Mom see you 😂

He "forgot" his phone the day of the hunt. In hindsight, the approximate location could have been verified at a lot of times during and preceding the hunt with phone records. I wonder if some of the phone records show him 15 miles away where the buck was actually located with a long stop where he poached it.

There has been NO dated trail cam pictures published anywhere public, Cj has not confessed as of 12/26 which can be verified by the official odnr statement released that day, The report also states that the reason for the investigation is failure to retrieve written permission to hunt the property (which he did from his sister on oct 1st) the whole case is going to come down to who is on the lands deed (his sister or his sisters mom) and if he got permission from the rightful owner.@@KillingStuffWithJosephJackson

Honestly, this is my favorite podcast, but I never thought I would watch one 3 hours long. I skipped over this one several times due to the length. Once I turned it on, though, I couldn't cut it off. The thing to me that makes this so cool is that it's so wholesome, and he's just a good Ole boy. I spent many years in the industry, mostly filming shows, and have seen all sides of it. I stopped filming about 7 or 8 years ago, and it has changed tremendously since then. It's cool to see a normal guy, no cell cams, a borrowed stand and weapon, go out, and shoot an absolute freaking giant. It's awesome because you just never know what's gonna come walking by. That's the American dream from a hunters standpoint. Good for him! I run cell cams and don't get to hunt near as much as I used to. I watch and dream about hunting more than I actually go anymore. It's like getting back to your roots and just getting out there, but in a whirlwind dream come true scenario. What a story! Enjoy the ride! I'll also add this. I had my biggest buck ( a 150" 8 pointer from IL) stolen from my taxidermist years ago, and it has left me with a sucky feeling ever since. I dream of getting that buck back one day. If i was in his shoes, money couldn't buy that deer. That's irreplaceable.

It’s a wonderful buck to harvest. Regardless of what tool was used. Be it crossbow, compound, recurve, muzzleloader, or rifle. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that this young man killed a giant buck he deserves to be respected for it. As hunters we shouldn’t be arguing over what tool was used to kill the deer, what are we a bunch of DC bureaucrats. No we’re hunters who chase animals for food and to challenge ourselves and to enjoy peace from the drama of every day life in the outdoors.
I'm close by and I can't wait too see the trail cams pop up. No way is that deer flying under the radar. The frame of that deer looks bigger than the Illinois road kill and stan potts monster from the Illinois power plant.

I think that deer was a sign. Seems you were going threw tuff issues with being able to hunt anywhere, losing hunting ground ect, won't go into depth but I think you know what I mean, that deer was sent to you to make you realize great things happen when people stay true at heart and not just hunt for the head. He was a payment for hanging in there and helping others when they need help. Great job super huge deer, you will never replace him at any cost nor will you probably ever see one that compares. And just for the record I could care less what you killed him with, you need luck, you need to be determined, I don't know what the big deal is with using crossbows, when you get to this deers level they are extremely smart and hard to get them. If you can make money by talks or showing him I say go for it, however I would never honestly sell that deer the level of the natural high you got from getting him is priceless
Hey may have poached it, but he also hunted that deer down, and killed it. Kill of a lifetime. Not a fenced in deer or anything so you still gotta tip your cap a little.
Here’s the deal guys, I watch the pod and for 3hrs I kept having an odd feeling about him and his buddy! Unfortunately, it’s much more plausible that this guy was riding the roads at night and knows the area. From the reading I’ve done it’s common knowledge that the DA and another cat own huge tracts of private and didn’t allow hunting. CJ admitted to being down on his luck with money. He sees the giant and possibly poached him, relocated to the sisters and makes up the story! Knows this buck is worth 100k ++ could’ve motivated him. The idea that he borrowed a crossbow and climber goes into a spot blind and kills this unicorn is false. Let alone the photos at night but on the pod he said he didn’t ever put hands on the buck till the next day 10:30-11am….. If guilty 30k fine isn’t close to enough!!!!
I don't think this deer could've been taken by a better guy. Congrats to him. And thank you guys for having him and calling hoyt. Table full of good dudes right here.

Help me understand his bow situation again. He’s an avid compound bow hunter. In 2022 he sells his compound bow cause he wants something better faster. But he doesn’t replace it. Instead he buys a cross bow for his wife and that breaks. Or was the crossbow for him and he was too embarrassed to say he actually bought the cross bow for himself. This is one of the weirdest stories I’ve ever heard
The flash light part almost caught him to but what saved his as* alot was when someone else spoke over him or asked a ? His stoy also is different about the shot .. one podcast he said he was like what the hell is that and the timing of darkness ect hell id remember all about the day and especially the shot

But on the other hand, it is understandable that awkward silences (especially during interrogations) is a great tool to have someone wrap themselves in a bed of lies…awkward silences in a podcast can ruin said podcast.
Did he just not have the right written permission or was he actually in a completely different spot than that 30 acres. It is suspicious that they recover the next morning and the pictures are at night. He said the deer was stiff but the pictures don’t look stiff. Congratulations out to the hunter. Problem is that it's already been decided it will be classified as a non-typical because of precedent. Several years ago a buck like this was taken in Wisconsin. Same G3 base combination and the panel decided it was not a typical because of the base was the same for both G2-G3. Beautiful buck, but if they determine that it's typical, then they have to go and reverse their previous decision. Frankly, i don't care, if i shot a buck this size, i wouldn't even let them score it by a panel. I would like a rough score and then let it be. With all the publicity and dishonest people nowadays, it would probably be stolen at your house and every podcaster would have their two bits about it. Blah, blah, blah. Go and enjoy hunting.
Love it
Did you all have a weird feeling about him through this whole interview? Because a week ago when I first listened I thought “this kid would need less than 5 mins to take every catalytic converter these boys have in the parking lot”.😂

LMAO😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
When I watched this I knew he was lying. Ain’t no way you find a deer at 10:30am that scores 230 inches and you don’t take a single photo until dark. I shot my PB last year that was a 180” deer and I literally took a photo of him laying the first time I saw him from 25 yards away. Then took 15 more before I got to the damn truck. And I was by my self. If there was a buddy, no doubt we would film the recovery and at least take 40 photos. When I heard him say they didn’t take any until dark I knew he was lying. Then when you look at his photos of him with the deer, he’s wearing all black…who does that when you aren’t hunting in a blind?
Same
I take 30 pics and video of 140” deer before I even put the tag on it …

at around 2:28:00 you mentioned that the deer had "retained resources." I'm assuming that you've heard of the "Shirker Theory" by Valerius Geist. If not, check that out.... It really might be the answer.
Well it's looking like CJ watched too many Charles Beaty interviews. The Ohio indictment is pretty damning.
Apparently he had verbal permission to hunt the property but not written permission in Ohio you have to have a written permission letter on your person at all times while hunting and during any recovery .I'm thinking it was one of those things like the sister said you can hunt just don't let Mom see you 😂

Yup lol I live in Ohio. I was suspicious of the story’s authenticity from the beginning, but didn’t say anything until now. People have come out with pictures and stories of this buck 15 miles away from where it was supposedly shot. There were also video posted at night where the deer was hanging and limp as all get like it was super fresh yet his story was that it wasn’t recovered until the next day… He sold the rack to a guy for $30,000 and it has now been confiscated and, from what I am told, CJ recently confessed to ODNR while he has been under investigation. Keep in mind we are talking about a government organization… They take their time doing investigations… I’m sure it will be out before too long though. 🤷🏼♂️It’s really unfortunate a giant like this was poached.
He "forgot" his phone the day of the hunt. In hindsight, the approximate location could have been verified at a lot of times during and preceding the hunt with phone records. I wonder if some of the phone records show him 15 miles away where the buck was actually located with a long stop where he poached it.
@@KillingStuffWithJosephJackson he kept saying he killed it on his sisters 30 acre property. His sister only owns 8 acres. That's the minute I knew something sketchy was going on when he made up that minor detail and people kept overlooking it.
Holy crap the jealous hunters of Ohio are having a field day with this one... stop posting the same copy pasta answer to every poaching comment, you don't know jack squat and got a bad case of verbal diarrhea from something you saw on your tiktok feed no doubt.

I live about 15 minutes from where this guy killed this buck!

He was arrested for poaching this deer his whole story was a lie 🙈
@@JohnkJV316yep and cj didn’t even know anything about Sgt York!
The same thing happened to me with my center point CP400 crossbow. The guy that put a new string on said the string will need replaced every year.
This trend has killed true sportsmanship all across America.
Should have told them about shooting out a cavalier back window. Eh, CJ? Lol
You need to get the personal collection guy Keith on here. Imagine a podcast from his perspective. He's also a big buck killer himself. He lives like 10 miles from my house. I've heard nothing but good things about him.
Oh wow interesting!
Yes that would be awesome
YES get Keith and CJ on together!!!🤣🤣🤣
@@dennishipsag3481 things might have got more interesting.
Whitetail Cribs did in house video with Keith.. That guys bleeds antlers..
This has to be embarrassing for you guys.
Why? They didn’t do anything wrong
