the bars sound dead during the blue knights cam because those are the rehearsal bars, and they switch them out for shows. Usually rehearsal bars are the show bars from 1-3ish years ago. and so when the rehearsal bars have gotten too messed up they are just thrown out or re purposed.
I'd just like to mention that in the Blue Knights show, no suspended cymbal rolls were used (by keyboard players.) They tried to just use amazing writing for the keyboard parts.
The guys walking around the field are on-field judges, they walk around and make comments into tape recorders, and after the competition, the bands listen to what the judges in the stands and on the field had to say.
Back in the day, when we MARCHED keys, we used to GORE the judges (when we could) - I got Len Carey in the kidney somewhere in Iowa...he was PISSED.... {evil grin}
When dci finals comes around this year, you definitely need to fly out and watch. There’s no other words to describe it but being blown away. Pun intended
The guy "ref" as you called him is a field judge. I think you would really enjoy going to Indianapolis for DCI finals. You can see the pits in the lot, see their rehearsal techniques. All of the extra movements and such as rehearsed for hours and hours making them just part of the performance.
I hope you don't stop posting videos on RUclips any time soon. You're basically one of the only marimba player on youtube that posts frequently. And all your videos are incredibly helpful and entertaining. You've actually encouraged me to get my own marimba one day.
I know you usually are focused on watching the front ensemble but you really should watch Carolina Crowns brass section. You haven’t heard a brass flex until you listen to them.
Agreed....total "muscle memory"....we rehearsed so many hours (BD'79) that I could play every note of the show for about 4 years afterwards....note for note....
Waiting for your next The Studio marching videos!! Welcome to the DCI world yayy. For me, I like the closeness between classical music (especially orchestra+concerto ones) and DCI music. Many DCI corps use classical repertoires in their show (watch SCV 2015 [bach's invention], 2016 [vivaldi]; carolina crown 2008 [literally a classical medley], 2011 [really... rachmaninoff + queen is wow], 2012 [copland], 2015 [beethoven+verdi+"albinoni"], and many MORE from other corps too) Btw... you should see Cadets 2011 (Between Angels and Demons). There's no marimba cam for that show (it was still 2011), but I'm sure you'll like it :) The drill design and music is awesome
Tenor cams.... like Ginger Rogers*... they do everything the snares do, but on five or six drums.... *She did everything that Fred Astaire did, but in heels and BACKWARDS....
around 14 minutes in, the guy behind the player, is a Judge, Percussionists get an on field judge, who must be athletic. Because they have to follow along and not get absolutely demolished following around the percussion section during pieces to judge stylings, techniques and things xD
BRO, you HAVE to go to a competition, maybe not the finals, but you've gotta go to a DCI comp sometime! The atmosphere is astronomically insane and high energy!
Dear Mr. Hudson, My clients have specified that you would like to know the meaning of splooie, but i'm not sure I know what it means myself. I need more time to deliberate this until we go full on with meeting with respective stakeholders. Have a good day, and say hello to the wife and kids for me. Matt ridge sure has grown up huh? This is and DCI program that doesn’t have an age limit called DCA.

Dexagonal fun fact my band director is on their visual staff, part of the reason we are a top tier highschool competition band

Flex
Hi Shelby remember me when you’re famous
that's my seat partner?
no u
Edward Li i need adam to watch your cam
I think another thing that makes the blue knights show interesting is there was no suspended cymbals- it was replaced with alternate instrumentation.
Proud Cavalier alum here! Keep these videos coming.
ADAM!! You NEED to watch Crashy Bongo!!!! INCREDIBLE SHOW
The cavaliers pit has always been godly tho
An amazing way to start my day with a new Adam vid
True
A great way to start the day indeed
Adam, could you possible review some marching mallets and how the differ from concert mallets. Thank you!
22:10 DCA is always an option man
Yes please come march DCA with us
When dci finals comes around this year, you definitely need to fly out and watch. There’s no other words to describe it but being blown away. Pun intended

Cavaliers - best pit in DCI
facts
you should see the cavaliers timpanist!!!!
Aiden Brandenburg I just saw some things in this vid for the first time because every other time I’ve seen this, I’v been distracted by the timpanist.

The cavaliers one it must be amazing to go out on a performance like that what an icon performance of a lifetime
The part where the marimbas are facing each other ... they’re playing the same marimba with one of the players playing runs upside down!
Adam tan hyping that BK 19 marimba cam LOL LOVE IT
Bro no way that dude on the thumbnail was my high school tech
kycj25 Gaming the guy on set, was my center snare 3 seasons ago in highschool.
The scissors...heh. In the past Santa Clara Vanguard played garden weasels a a pit sound effect.
I know you usually are focused on watching the front ensemble but you really should watch Carolina Crowns brass section. You haven’t heard a brass flex until you listen to them.
ADAM! IN DCI (AND WGI) PIT DOESN’T LOOK AT THEIR INSTRUMENTS WHILE THEY PLAY FOR A MAJORITY OF THE SHOW!
Agreed....total "muscle memory"....we rehearsed so many hours (BD'79) that I could play every note of the show for about 4 years afterwards....note for note....

#TooObviousRIght
Makes me want to try pit now
You should do the 2019 blue devils
I would like to see you react to the Blue devils 2014 victory performance, not a cam but the encore performance
🌹Splooie🌹
You gotta watch SCV 2018 Babylon. I don’t know if it’s still on RUclips however I do have a 60 FPS mp4 vid I could send if you want
Samuel De Los Santos when
MovableFormula his first DCI video
Petition “Big Brass Flex” to be a t-shirt
Shelby's Video is direct evidence that pit still has a stupid amount of choreo, even though the instruments can't be moved very easily
1st baby (except Adam)
I am the 0th baby 😳
So yeah. You need to check out their 2014 show Immortal.
Splooie!
You should do an episode on dca. It's not as clean as dci because they only rehearse on weekends but it's a weird niche of the drum Corp world
DCA is also a wayyyy larger age group, anybody 14-50 can March
If you like blue knights you should check out Rise Percussion
you should watch some snare cams
Tenor cams.... like Ginger Rogers*... they do everything the snares do, but on five or six drums....
*She did everything that Fred Astaire did, but in heels and BACKWARDS....
Davin is also 16 :)
OOOOOCEAN
Hi do you know mr gip chan?? Just asking😅
Blue knights played the tunes from cadets 2005? Lol
14:00 a referee or something. . . . lol maybe a judge :P
The green shirt guys are the judges.

Just wait till he sees their 2011 show. Or 2014
Hey try watching a indoor or dci snare cam
The thought of having to push that onto grass makes my back hurt 😢
Did you see the part where the marimbas looked at the drum major? Neither did they
You should react to people breaking shit during concert😂
Where’s the Metamorph Marimba cam?!
TheIceTubeLC he already made a xylo/glock one for metamorph
ZAYNE UNKNOWN49 that’s not a marimba though. He said that he’d react to it “in a later video”
2014 cavs
Do you have perfect pitch??!
Video starts at 3:00
Is that idubbbz
It's not a train show
I mean.. lmao
I don’t think the the bars r ded, he’s just using mallets from Vic firth, boom roasted
Splooie?
Jsw DCI Drums I wonder what it means
Joey Hudson yea, only the people who marched cavaliers know what it means. They keep it a secret lol
