Feral cats can become loving companions. You have to develop a relationship with them thru kindness, love and lots of patience. Feeding them and treats go a long way too. Every cat is an individual and how much time it'll take until they trust you varies greatly. It's a marathon to develop a relationship and needs to be done with baby steps. Some of the most loving cats were once considered feral. ❤❤😻😻

If people would spay and neuter their cats in addition, quit dumping and abandoning their pets when they move. It's not a cat problem, it's a stupid human problem!

I have feral cats in my neighborhood and I have not seen a mouse or rat in my alley or neighborhood in 3 years. If they don't eat the rats they at least keep them away.

His comment about a cat being impossible to domesticate if it's been living outside for 8 weeks or longer is complete nonsense. I've helped trap many, many feral cats over the years, including mother cats with litters of kittens, and my experience is almost all of them were able to be domesticated and made into loving pets. It can take time and patience, but I've seen many cats who were outdoors for years finally gain the trust of a person and become a great indoor pet. I speak from personal experience there. If this guy doesn't realize this, then he didn't really do a good job researching this problem.

I leave my basement window open at night for the homeless cats who are looking for shelter. There's a giant bowl of food, water ,blankets and a cat litter box. I also have a camera set by the window so I can see the cats who come in. I love it!

Urban cats kill urban pests! Cats have been part of human civilization since its origins. They follow us around wherever we go. Bubonic plague was caused in part by a massive cat cull that took place in Europe. TNR seems like the best compromise in the rattiest city in the country!

News flash: for those who REALLY care about birds, how about working on decreasing the number of birds that humans destroy, since humans destroy billions more.
Or, do you just have a beef against cats?

Feral cats are NOT killing billions of birds a year. Bird-watcher groups keep vectoring that nonsense. And feral cats in the Chicago area don't have access to rare endangered birds anyway, Mostly pigeons, sparrows and crows.

Interesting article I saw about rat catching skills among feral cats. The majority of cats that were studied were TERRIBLE at rat catching. If the rats or mice were really small then the cats would go after them. Larger rats? No way. The cats didn't even try it. If there was garbage available they weren't going to go after rats. Frequently they would eat ALONGSIDE rats.

I have lived in the Chicago area all my life. Been to the city hundreds of times. My dad lived in the city for like 15 years as well and I visited him very often. I have never noticed a lot of cats. Sure, people have pet cats, and I'm sure there are stays as well. But, I only saw a cat in Chicago maybe 1 out of 50 times I went to Chicago, if that.

I think worthless human beings should be fined and put in jail and have to work at an animal shelter if they let their cats run out outside unattended and get pregnant. We shouldn’t have so many stray cats running around. And it’s always the cats that suffer. You don’t see dogs running around unattended or two-year-olds do you? I think this is a bunch of bullshit! Cats were meant to be kept inside and loved and cared for like any other pet.
