I have a habit of listening to your podcasts while I draw. I would like to thank you, because it does wonders putting me in this calmer, less hectic state of mind and make me think about what I'm doing and why I draw/paint. Also, as a semi-academically trained artist, yeah, we started with white plaster heads (Venus, Ceasar and so on. My fav was Socrates.) and separate parts on the face - nose, ear, eye, mouth. Then you move to a life drawing studies of a person, which can be done in 3-6 sittings. Academic painting and drawing is mostly about painting real people, because it is first and foremost academic realism. More so, most of the professional academic artists I personally know will hire a model to come and sit for them if they need to paint a person into a picture. Design happen with palette, graphic technique and composition decisions.
This was AWESOME. I've been having a lot of trouble with art lately, a lot of it has been really stiff. I think trying to do this sketchy blocked out method will help a lot with making more fluid pieces. Thank you so much for these tutorials and videos. They are definitely worth the wait. I'm super excited to see the next one!
Greetings from Egypt :). I rarely comment on a video no matter how amazed or entertained I am by them ,but i felt compelled to comment on yours. now as you know it's hard to find inspiration in my country. but when i showed your videos to my brother you became his inspiration to become an artist, the point is you sir helped my brother to find a goal and therefore enjoy life more. I thought you should know that . and i hope you continue making these amazing videos. respect :)
why I always wait for your videos: 1. it's kind of like an asmr for me 2. your drawing is just perfect. gosh I love staring at them for hours (okay maybe minutes) 3. your voiceover is just hilarious. will you ever be doing a livestream sir?
This is brilliant. You are brilliant. I shall now watch every video twice and absorb all zee skillz. Seriously tho, good stuff! I really liked how you referenced your inspirations (which I can now explore further) and questioned terms artists seem to take for granted.
These are awesome, I love how casual the commentary is, yet said with an informed confidence. Keep it up =) Excuse me while I go watch the rest of your video's...
can't wait for the next video!! I struggle so much with colouring over grayscale :-( thanks for this video, ahmed! lucky I checked my subscription box before I slept ~
+john benel kudos to you for even wanting to know. Most artists don't care to learn. I'd head to pinterest, if you don't use that as a resource. It's astounding how many great tutorial infographics are aggregated there.
Really nice video. The style struggle is something that is in every artist head. I am following one style and its tempting to keep doing that, but also to vary, its complicated haha. Thanks for the videos!
You should continue talking about the atelier!! Also your shape appeal is so cool! It has a very interestinf combination of western and eastern and I think you should stick with it
Hey Ahmed! Your advice of learning to draw faces really bad (or just drawing faces badly till u get them out of your system) is something i've never heard of and probably what i need to get me learning faster since I always lose sooo much time trying to get one part perfect :P Also try Patreon who knows that could be your first step to full timmee :) or start a school man
Hey Ahmed! I'm a big fan of your videos, you never fail to inspire me to draw, draw, draw every time :D I would actually really love it if you happened to write a book someday, I think you have some really awesome insight to share!! Stay cool, man
duuuuuuude. I totally get ya with "drawing form my imagination". most people tell me and look at my art and go "this from your head"? I just say sure becasue i cant go into a whole break down on my philosophy on drawing and i don't have time for that. You should do a video on that phrase though. Anyways keep it up, i also followed you on Instagram.
You are such a sweetie lol. I've noticed you seem more comfortable in your videos now but your older ones are still great too, I really look forward to seeing your videos in my sub feed because I know it's going to be enjoyable, the way you present yourself doesn't make me feel bad for being shit hehe. I will keep practicing. Also I think your name and icon suit you very well :)
Got back from work and first thing was checking this video out, i wont lie i didnt even watch it i was just listening to you talking. Creep much? ill take it :P awesome VIDEO keep it up
I always STRUGGLE to draw female heads looking anything but down. It always baffled me as to why it was such a strain for me to draw them looking straight on or from below. Then one day it donned on me. I'm 6'2". The VAST MAJORITY of women I come into contact with, I see from above. I almost never, ever see a woman from below or looking up. Weird factoid.
I never had major issues drawing faces looking upwards, for me, looking downwards is a lot more challenging, same for entire figures really. Anyway, i got a question for ya: Do i absolutely need life drawing to become a good artist? Cause i have no access to such facilities anywhere nearby where i live (actually, i am not sure there's a proper art school in this entire damn country where i live, lol)...and it would be super awkward to ask friends or family to pose....I guess a mirror would do for face practice....But can i become good if my only learning tool is my computer?
+Xandredarium YOu can get life drawing from anywhere go to the zoo, mall, parks, cafe's anywhere there are people or animals or whatever you want to draw. Sit get comfy and DRAW!!
+MrThewookieman That sounds pretty useful, but ii meant it more in styding anatomy and thinking 3 dimensionaly and stuff. That sorta public sketching is pretty good for getting the motion and feel down right.
As an occasional perfectionist, getting through that much needed mileage is painful! Stumbled onto your channel a few hours ago, already in love dude. How long have you been drawing?
+Ahmed Aldoori No problem (: I figured as much, I could guess my own affinity for drawing started when 2ish yr old me discovered I could mark up the walls...with sharpie.
+Ahmed Aldoori Really dope that you are teaching yourself AE. As I'm aware there are tons of resources, but just if you haven't checked yet, check out www.videocopilot.net, www.urkamedia.com, www.mtmograph.com, www.schoolofmotion.com just to name a couple sites. Keep being awesome and kicking out these videos!
+Ahmed Aldoori Yo ahmed if you want you can finish the piece without coloring/painting over it etc. by just adding very darkngray between the characters and a little on the outside from the inside . Just giving an idea so you can keep it rough and sketchy while finished :)
How about...flow drawing? It feels like that to me anyway...the pen just moves and then I make it move some more, and it makes a shape that could be this and then I move it more so it looks like the thing and then...you know, like...flowing stuff? Yeah, very deep, I know...sorry, that's how I think at 3:30 in the morning
Actually i went to watts atelier yeah they don't really teach imagination drawing. Yeah you can call it invention drawing instead of imagination drawing.
man I would pay for tutorials or anything one on one but im sure your a busy guy but I have questions. I just moved to the digital realm and need a bit of help ...um if you want and have time check me out at left hand Illustrations on facebook ...lol idk if this a reach or not but let me know dude have a good one .

Yes, Sir, I noticed that fancy logo of yours. I love the colors a lot! I was wondering about the bird, so thanks for clearing that up :D
Thanks for doing these, this was really cool to watch you just throw out ideas and refine :)

Are you planning on making videos on drawing other race's faces?
That'd be really interesting and helpful!
+john benel kudos to you for even wanting to know. Most artists don't care to learn. I'd head to pinterest, if you don't use that as a resource. It's astounding how many great tutorial infographics are aggregated there.

hey ahmed awesome video, was wondering if you would be doing user submitted crits anytime soon?
hello, Ahmed :) thank you for your videos, they are really helpful!
Your new video thumbnails are looking good.
6:14 "Is it really my imagination?" 6:21 Literally describes drawing from imagination...
Keep up the good work!
You should draw for comics. Your faces are AWESOME
amazing!!
can you make a new tutorial about draw faces
Great video! For me drawing male faces is much more challenging and confusing than female faces, I don't know why. haha
what brush do you use to make it blend like that while sketching?
"Whatever, I'm digressing." Nooo keep talking, haha.
I never had major issues drawing faces looking upwards, for me, looking downwards is a lot more challenging, same for entire figures really. I took an old barely touched sketchbook and decided to fill it with only faces lol we will se if there is progress when it's full
You need to find and defeat all the other Ahmed Aldoori's so you can become The One.
I guess you could say that you're drawing from experience. Both literally and figuratively
Really nice
Many of your characters remind me of the Bioshock universe :]
loool!! thats mind blowing wow!
Hey Ahmed do you use a cintiq or intuos pro? I have a hard time drawing with the intuos, any tips to get used to it?
+Mike Jordana I think He uses an Intuos Pro M but I´m not sure :O
A Wacom Intuos Pro Medium -he mentions it in the description ;v;
Got any tips for colourblind artists? it's a constant struggle for me because everything turns out muddy ;c
Could u do a video on different types of eyes. Not anime eyes but eyes u make on your art.
pls do more of those sketches where you just recorded it and do a voice over if you want to
+Ahmed Aldoori Really dope that you are teaching yourself AE. Very nice faces I must say XD
I want you to talk! Because I love your voice and your jokes :)
By the way always thank you for tutorials!
I fucking love your channel :)
+Ahmed Aldoori hahahahaha and also these fast responses :D
+Ahmed Aldoori Yo ahmed if you want you can finish the piece without coloring/painting over it etc. by just adding very darkngray between the characters and a little on the outside from the inside . Just giving an idea so you can keep it rough and sketchy while finished :)
what brush with what settings are you using here?
thanks
It'd be cool if you could leave the speed of the painting process as is, since that makes it much easier to think along with the process.
Is Aldoori sorta like the American name Smith or Johnson or Brown?
nice.
Captain Ahmed Sparrow
I mostly have trouble drawing the nose and jaw line.
do you prefer drawing girls over men? seems that way. I've noticed almost all artists prefer to draw the opposite sex, myself included...
Indeed! I suppose as artists we draw most of what we like the most
speed painting plz
don worry, ahmed, i ll take the other ones out. stealth
Actually i went to watts atelier yeah they don't really teach imagination drawing. Yeah you can call it invention drawing instead of imagination drawing.
You kinda sound like a sad Jazza in this video. Hahaha
So what are the advantages of drawing live models rather than drawing from photo references? Is it just that photos sometimes have visual artifacts?
+Ahmed Aldoori haha! Okay, got it. Thanks :)
Do twitch streams. I'd love you to have a subscribe button so people can donate. :)
man I would pay for tutorials or anything one on one but im sure your a busy guy but I have questions. I just moved to the digital realm and need a bit of help ...um if you want and have time check me out at left hand Illustrations on facebook ...lol idk if this a reach or not but let me know dude have a good one .
