Her feeling like she needed to apologize for her "weak" voice in Les Mis makes me sad. That was the point of having live singing in the movie. So that you feel what the actors are feelings rather than just being impressed by their vocal acrobatics.
Honestly I never gravitated towards Cosette. She’s always been a set piece who can sing on stage. Amanda brought that character to life and made her human. The voice may not have been as strong as it usually is on stage but she sold that role and gave her substance.
I loved hearing her talk about the realities of an actor playing a real person who made morally wrong choices. Needing to be able to find empathy and compassion for them, even temporarily so you can try to embody and understand their character..and the emotional journey of their wrongdoings catching up with you internally.. I find the sort of mental gymnastics that actors have to do fascinating. And also sad sometimes, I know actors have definitely crossed their own emotional wires and had to completely stop production for hours because they were carrying immense traumatic emotions of a character, of a life that wasn't theirs and needing to just process that..

feel like we also need give props to the interviewer behind the camera who must be prompting amanda seyfried to go into such amazing detail about all these films!!
I am SO SAD that Little Red Riding Hood wasn't in this line up. Nonetheless, Amanda is such an incredibly talented actor, and I feel so lucky that we are allowed to see how actors view their roles after the filming wraps.
I always loved Amanda's roles. The Dropout once again proved her talent without leaving anyone disappointed. She's got such an excellent resume in her belt.
amanda seyfried is literally one of my biggest inspirations. i've been lucky enough to actually play not one but TWO of her roles onstage (karen in the nyc premiere of mean girls jr. and cosette in les mis) in the past year. i genuinely believe that she is one of the best actresses of our time.
Wow this is such an honest reflection on her Les Mis experience, I was such a hardcore theatre kid at the time I remember feeling mad watching parts of that movie wishing the vocals were cleaner but looking back it felt more authentic and real, and they leaned into the camp and absurdity a bit. Anyways big kudos, she’s really matured and would love to see her do another big musical (I know she’s working on something now..)
I remember seeing her in promos for Les Mis and constantly talking down on her vocal performance. She seemed really embarrassed and was vocal in wishing she could redo it even back then. :(
Sideways has a great analysis on the physical grind (to say the least!) that was happening to the actors’ vocals as a whole. I think Amanda sounds amazing in the film, but WOW I see her voice in a new light after watching the Sideways video.
A movie she's in which is often forgotten about, that I like despite it being very predictable, is Dear John. She's very calming in that movie, it matches the overall feel. Just love it.
This was so cool! Amanda’s insights were so rich and detailed with how she broke scenes down for us, what she felt, how she felt it, and the significance of it. Amazing to see someone who loves what they do tell you about it.
The way she spoke about Hugh Jackman was so precious 😊 He's one of my favourite actors as a person, and what she said about him brought me to tears :,-)
There was a clip of Amanda singing Popular recently and she sounded incredible, I can definitely see why she would want to redo Les Miz cause she was indeed pretty weak for the role's requirement (even though once your mind is able to just accept her for the role, you could definitely appreciate her angelic voice).
She auditioned for Glinda in the Wicked film adaption, and spoke about how hard she’s worked on getting her vocals up to par. Not that she wasn’t amazing before, but where she personally felt comfortable in her vocal ability enough to possibly portray Glinda. The good part is that she said she now feels vocally ready for more musicals in the future, and is reportedly working on a Thelma & Louise musical with Evan Rachel Wood.
Sideways does a great analysis called “Why the Music in Les Misérables sounds Worse than you Think,” or something like that. Much of what was going on backstage, as far as direction, stressed the actors’ voices. I think Amanda sounds amazing in the movie, but it was eye opening to hear more of the process going on.
The movies I watched of Amanda is , Mamma Mia (1&2) Jennifer's Body, Les miserables, Mean girls, Letters to Juliet, Red riding hood, & a million ways to die in the west.... She's very versatile
Most iconic part of the whole interview "most people are like F that, but that's not how I take no." She loved the musical and knew she could do it so she kept auditioning. beautiful
Loved her in letters to juilet , dear John and mean girls. She is such an iconic actress and you can tell how much she gets into her roles. Absolutly incredible person!
Adorable, it's a quality she carries through the years, she has this Michelle Pfeiffer vibe about her, they both love acting, they're both great at it, but they're so natural and almost unaware of how great and beautiful they are. Jennifer's Body is such a classic, she and Megan should be proud of it, they did a brilliant job, I'd love to see them and maybe Lindsay working together in a movie, that'd be really cool.
9:20 love the appreciation she has for music and song as storytelling. I really don’t think music and dance gets enough positive wide spread recognition.
As a musician who works behind the scenes, I find commentaries like this just as engaging as the completed films. It’s always great to hear what other creatives and performers think and experience. Thank you, Vanity Fair and Amanda!
Love the expression she has as an actress. Even in Le Miserable, she overperformed to what she herself claimed. I really can't stand musicals, but it was surprisingly good singing, can't deny that. Ms Seyfried seems so much more calm and based in the interview compared to the characters I've seen her play. Also, in my memory she came up during the nineties, when series and movies with beautiful young people exploded onto screens, but looking back now it was way later. Still, a very long career with some great performances.
She's so great that people just see her as her characters. I'm sure it's annoying when people ask her about the weather on the street, but it goes to show how her acting resonates so closely with viewers.
I still can’t believe some of the movies she’s been in, she seems like a whole different person cause she is a true actress, she can be completely different in every film and it’s amazing
Okay but Im relieved to hear that Amandas strategy was to scare herself playing Elizabeth bc watching the series gave me serious creep factor. Acting is phenomenal
I'm glad Mean Girls and Jennifer's Body makes it, but you missed her other huge role that year in Chloe. Maybe the movie didn't fair well, but her and Julianne Moore made an incredible duo in a film. I want to see her in more movies like Jennifer's Body & Chloe, she plays strong and cunning well.

She has the best career. She gets to play such a range of characters in projects that stand the test of time and people love! Not to mention she seems like a down to earth person and gets to live a normal life off screen. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
feel like we also need give props to the interviewer behind the camera who must be prompting amanda seyfried to go into such amazing detail about all these films!!
She’s so thoughtful and unfiltered, what a cool interview
I am SO SAD that Little Red Riding Hood wasn't in this line up. Nonetheless, Amanda is such an incredibly talented actor, and I feel so lucky that we are allowed to see how actors view their roles after the filming wraps.
I loved that movie❤
Everyone trashes the movie but I love it
“i was just a child…. with so many wrinkles” 😂
I always loved Amanda's roles. The Dropout once again proved her talent without leaving anyone disappointed. She's got such an excellent resume in her belt.
she's an icon! She low-key grew up with us, yet she's so underrated.
As someone that grew up with the movie and still sees it once a month, it absolutely warms my heart hearing Amanda talk this way about Mamma Mia 😭😭
Who can forget the iconic line "I'm a mouse, duh." 😂
Amanda Seyfried steals every scene she's in, no matter what the movie. She should've received an Oscar for that role.
amanda seyfried is literally one of my biggest inspirations. i've been lucky enough to actually play not one but TWO of her roles onstage (karen in the nyc premiere of mean girls jr. and cosette in les mis) in the past year. i genuinely believe that she is one of the best actresses of our time.
I wonder how russel crow feels about his performance…
Sideways has a great analysis on the physical grind (to say the least!) that was happening to the actors’ vocals as a whole. I think Amanda sounds amazing in the film, but WOW I see her voice in a new light after watching the Sideways video.
Her career is just so good iconic projects, not loads of things at once but just amazing films that turned out to be timeless
She's probably should start a podcast, 'cause her voice is just- ✨✨✨ It's like she can take me to sleep in five minutes 😭
A movie she's in which is often forgotten about, that I like despite it being very predictable, is Dear John. She's very calming in that movie, it matches the overall feel. Just love it.
What a career. Jennifer’s Body is a fantastic movie. Criminally underrated.
She's literally so gorgeous
This was so cool! Amanda’s insights were so rich and detailed with how she broke scenes down for us, what she felt, how she felt it, and the significance of it. Amazing to see someone who loves what they do tell you about it.
The way she spoke about Hugh Jackman was so precious 😊 He's one of my favourite actors as a person, and what she said about him brought me to tears :,-)
Amanda is the gutsiest and most fearless actor in Hollywood.
she has so much diversity in her roles
I’m surprised Red Riding Hood wasn’t mentioned, absolutely loved her in it
She’s an underrated ICON & doesn’t get enough recognition.
I could listen her talk about her characters all day long. She shows her passion for acting! Love her
Oh my goodness I love how honest she is about herself - what a legend.
She doesn't sound like an actor. She is definitely a director
Why do you think so?
The movies I watched of Amanda is , Mamma Mia (1&2) Jennifer's Body, Les miserables, Mean girls, Letters to Juliet, Red riding hood, & a million ways to die in the west.... She's very versatile
Most iconic part of the whole interview "most people are like F that, but that's not how I take no." She loved the musical and knew she could do it so she kept auditioning. beautiful
Loved her in letters to juilet , dear John and mean girls. She is such an iconic actress and you can tell how much she gets into her roles. Absolutly incredible person!
To me she was and still is the most beautiful actress ever
Adorable, it's a quality she carries through the years, she has this Michelle Pfeiffer vibe about her, they both love acting, they're both great at it, but they're so natural and almost unaware of how great and beautiful they are. Jennifer's Body is such a classic, she and Megan should be proud of it, they did a brilliant job, I'd love to see them and maybe Lindsay working together in a movie, that'd be really cool.
9:20 love the appreciation she has for music and song as storytelling. I really don’t think music and dance gets enough positive wide spread recognition.
I also really enjoyed Amanda's performance in 'Letters To Juliet'. Very sweet, romantic role.
Amanda Seyfried is probably one of the most beautiful actress I've ever seen
Her resume speaks for itself. What an icon!
Acting is phenomenal
hearing her critique her singing is so strange when all I could think about while watching was how stunning her voice is. She’s amazing
You've probably already seen it, but "Gone" is a really good movie. She's very smart and brave in that film.
@@dorindadouglas2847 I like that movie too. It wasn't included in this vid.
Huge Amanda Seyfried fan I just love her. There’s a couple more I wish they went over but I’m glad she did this 😊
she is so well spoken and its clear how passionate she is about her craft! Get it sis!
