Father Parks presents as genuine, transparent, “real” in the very best sense. His homilies are always inspiring, educational, insightful and engaging. What a delight watching and listening to this, thank you for having him on Matt. Absolutely yummy, delightful.
I'm reverting after 11 years. This channel is such a great tool. I am learning so much about the Catholic faith and I love hearing from different priests. May God bless you and I will forever be grateful.
I just moved to Steubenville because you, Matt, mentioned it a few years ago, which put it on my radar as a Catholic oasis. Two months ago, the Holy Spirit said, "Now! Go check it out," so I bought a plane ticket and booked an Airbnb and resolved to completely follow His lead. No plans, no agenda. My Airbnb host said, "By the way, I'm a Realtor; if you'd like to do some house hunting while you're here, I can hook you up." So I did that, but on my first day of my Steubenville trip, I got doubts because I didn't like the town at first. I said, "Holy Spirit, what do you want me to do? Do you want me to move here? Then give me a clear sign. And don't be subtle; you know I don't do subtle. Hit me over the head. Like, let me meet one of these 'famous Catholics.'" On Day 2, I went to the FUS campus and had some extremely profound spiritual experiences there. That pretty much convinced me, at least 80%. On Day 3, I went back to FUS and after Mass at Christ the King Chapel, ran into Scott Hahn (the "famous Catholic" I'd been asking for). The Holy Spirit was keeping our deal-that was His sign that I should move. That day, I made an offer on one of the houses I'd viewed, and a day later, as I waited at the airport for my flight, the offer was accepted. A little more than a week ago, I moved here with everything I have, and I can't wait to see what God has in store for me. :) Running completely on faith is very hard to do, and I often fail miserably... but whenever I've done it, the results have been phenomenal. Praise be to God!
@@tiaaleo Absolutely love it here. It feels more like my home than Vermont ever did. The people are wonderful, and the Catholic community in Steubenville is so tight-knit, you meet new people and make new friends in no time. My son just graduated from college and moved in with me (for now), and life is pretty great. I'm about to finish my 12-month aspirancy to join the lay Carmelites. Though God is also working hard in my life to teach me humility and obedience, two of the things I struggle most with. In December of last year, circumstances forced me to quit my work-from-home, very well-paying job as a copy editor with the company I'd worked for 20 years. What I didn't expect was that I'd dive headlong into poverty. Finding jobs here is not that easy, and my health is not that good that I could work physically straining jobs. In January, I started training as a non-medical caregiver, with the intention to have this as a "side job." Now, this has turned into my ONLY job, aside from my blogging at Substack's "Diary of a Stumbling Saint." So I went from relative affluence to complete poverty. Right now, I'm supplementing my meager income with my savings, but those won't last for long. I'm well aware that this is God's way of testing me yet again and instilling in me virtues that I couldn't have gained any other way. But I'm not gonna lie, it's pretty scary too. This is where the leaps of faith come in!!! :)
Praise God for this conversation. I was in the middle of watching it and it just made me want to do nothing more than go into the Chapel and sit with the Lord in vulnerability, so much so that I had to pause the video, go into the church next door, and just pray. What a blessing that God has chosen to work through you in order to work on the hearts of his children!
I just gotta say how much I’ve enjoyed this episode, I’ve watched it twice from start to finish, Fr Parks made me realize why I love comedy so much, I truly love hearing people laugh! Fr Parks needs to be back pleaseee, he’s an incredible preacher I met him at a blessed is she retreat last year God bless him! He has a beautiful gift! 🥹🙏🏻🙌🏻❤️
I LOVED the part about being gutsy. The dialogue between the four men taking the paralytic to Jesus and getting on the roof, cracked me up! And immediately I started praying to God about something that had been tormenting me. A little later, I got my answer. Praise the Lord 🙏🏻
The more I watched this episode the more I loved it. I felt like the Holy Spirit was talking to me through the conversation you two were having. Before I type up a prayer, I want to mention that I would love it if you, Matt and your team, set up a fan mail or online fan mail way for us to reach out to you so that I and others could thank you for the work each and one of you do at Pints With Aquinas. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; Thank you Lord for Matt, thank you for Father John, thank you for Neil and everyone else who works at Pints With Aquinas whom I do not know. Thank you Lord for bringing these people into my life even if it is only vicariously and through this medium of the internet. Thank you for speaking to me through the conversations on this website. Thank you for showing me a light in this dark world. Thank you for using the means of this world to your advantage, to speak to me and many others. Thank you Jesus for your mercy, for your sacrifice, and especially for your love. I delight in the love you have for all of us. I am humbled by your love, I find peace and security in your love. I thank you for Matt, his team, and his guests for helping me become closer to understanding and feeling your love on a personal level that I would not know without them. Thank you for writing this. I’m not so great with words- but think all you wrote is so perfectly said! And is why we keep coming back to listen and grow closer to our God!
Lol, I love that the commercials are in the most random places like 37:12, when Fr. Parks has just gotten done saying "... A Quiet Place," and then Matt emphatically says, "Exodus 90!"
I love the comments about the world feels better every time I meet someone good. It gives you hope. I always learn new things in your show. Praying that it continuous to be fruitful. 🙏🏼
I will say this about Mozart’s sheet music, having majored in music, looking at and analyzing what Mozart or any other classical composer has written is mind blowing. It’s hard to comprehend how someone could be so smart as to compose such incredible music.
1:17:00 Matt, this comment truly made me tear up. Life becomes so much more beautiful when you meet new people and can see their uniqueness and beauty that they bring into the world. You can see God's perfection in humanity and his children. This is exactly why I love being a travel nurse. Getting to meet so many different people each with their own stories of life just makes life so much sweeter. You learn to love a new person for who they are and what they experience. This conversation was so wholesome and thought provoking. Definitely one of my favorite so far!!
Matt, you are a constant blessing to me. I am a patron of your channel, and I give my paltry donation every month...then I see this honest, off-kilter, struggling Aussie and I am so blessed.
A female comedian that I like is Jeanne Robertson RIP. I found her clips on RUclips a couple of months ago, but the way she delivers her stories always cracks me up, and I'm not even from the USA 😅
This is one of my favorite episodes! Thank you so much for your podcast, Matt, please never become a hermit 😂 I sent my husband a link to your podcast a couple years ago and he became a regular listener and many of your episodes have helped us grow so much. And thank you for sharing your thoughts about Cameron. What a lovely marriage you two have! ❤️
Talking about getting comfortable with our quirks and idiosyncrasies, remember with how much appreciation you just talked about Chesterton! You know the guy who carried around a sword, liked wearing capes, and forgot all his essentials on trips if he didn't have his wife's help? We all value his genius and gain from it, but love him for his quirkiness.
Loved this conversation, Matt, for so many reasons. As someone with theatre training who has also mostly given it up because the only opportunities to participate are in conflict with the faith, I’d love to hear a conversation with a guest - either Fr. John or someone else - about how Catholics can navigate or reclaim the arts instead of continuing to be edged out.
Shakespeare is Amazing! I read Hamlet in high school. It was incredible. In the scene where Ophelia went mad. She collected flowers in a bouquet and if you read the bouquet you knew what she was feeling and what she was going to do. The poppies told her plan, the poppies represented death. Fennel and Columbine, she was deceived. Daisy innocents, Rue bitterness, ... ... Hamlet wanted revenge for his father and he let Ophelia suffer in the process.
I was relating too these two guys sooooooooooo much. I will really want to watch a movie with someone and get bored 10 minutes in and go to bed. I'm also a big idea person, and being an artist I can't tell you how many times I've gotten a GIANT canvas with a really cool idea and then I reuse that canvas 5 times with completely different ideas till I find the right one
Love the humor in understanding Jesus! Makes it more real life! And I relate to your channel because you’re real. I also am on fire for so many different devotions and paths... for a little while... I blame my ADD...
How great would it be to have a spiritual director like Fr. Parks. Two minutes in his office and he can lead someone to a "the Lord told me…"?! Some people go through practically their entire lives paying but without ever experiencing anything like that.
I love how Matt talks about his wife Cameron with such love, adoration, and captivation. I feel the same about my wife; she's so much like how Matt describes Cameron. I love and admire her so much it's beyond words.
Just after 1:11:30 Hahahahaha! "We could either grow in virtue or hire assistants and we both hired assistants." I spend so much time wishing I could hire assistants but alas, I'd better figure out how to grow in virtue because I'm broke! This episode has made me feel like my husband and I are Matt and Cameron but switched. I'm the big idea/no follow through type and my husband is suffering his disability so much more gracefully than I am!
As a Brit two of my favorite female comics were French and Saunders who had their heyday in the 1990s. Especially Jennifer Saunders who wrote and starred in "Absolutely Fabulous" which is one of the funniest and most well written sit-coms ever All the main characters were female too. I remember when Patsy said scathingly to Saffy "you may dress like a Christian but the similarity ends there!" 😄😄
I love how everyone loves this long form video but so many are hating on the short clip about female comedians that was posted afterwards. Personally the clip didn't phase me much and I'm loving the actual video it's from
Matt, is the chair that your guests are sitting in super uncomfortable? So many of them seem to constantly being adjusting themselves. Just wondering....God Bless you. You help me to be real with myself!!!
Nice mention of Mortimer Adler...I believe he became Catholic late in life. Love to read the Great Books of the Western World set. Highly recommend them for lifelong reading.
Great conversation, I was engaged the whole way through - which is a big deal since I also get bored easily. Matt what's you're Myers Briggs Personality?
Catherine Tate, British comedienne. She's pretty hilarious. But I've never seen her do stand-up--though she has according to her Wikipedia entry-- but rather skit comedy and characterization. My favourite stand-up is Dylan Moran, hands-down. Bill Bailey is a close second, followed by Eddie Izzard.
Here in Latinamerica we have a great group of comidians from Argentina called Les Luthiers, they are pure gold, they are musicians that created so many shows with songs paroding and using wordplays. They were so great!
Dear Matt I found THE FUNNIEST female stand up comedian, her name is zarna garg, she does this act about her husband and kids that had me totally cracking up, hope you see this ahahaha
I almost exclusively listen to female comics, because they joke about things that I (as a female) can relate to (pregnancy, relationships with friends and parents etc). Maybe you don’t find them funny because you are not a women?
Basically you react hydrogen peroixier with specific types of organic coumpound with a double bond (eg ethylene). the hydrogen peroxide reacts with the orgainic compound causing the double bond to break. This creates a radical which attacks another organic compound cause that double bind to break this cycle continues until the organic compounds have run out or until conditions have changed
I don’t know a lot of comedians, but I find some of Anjelah Johnson’s routines quite entertaining, especially her “Asian Nail” and “Mexican Mama” that went viral like 10 years ago.
Why did Matt (verbally) conversation stomp all over Father like that in the beginning. Love Matt and the Show! Patreon subscriber! Matt isn’t annoying but he was kind of stepping all over Fr in the first 20 min.
If you like Brian Regan, check out Nate Bergatze for comedy. Total genius! Also decent (but not always clean nor in line with Catholic teaching) female comedian is Anjelah Johnson.
Nate Bargatze is a clean comedian I’ve loved listening to lately. He’s got a great special on Netflix and his young daughter introduces him at most of his shows.
"Have you ever had that experience where you feel sad and attacked and stuck and you WANT TO BE? Almost like I'm aware of this and could renounce this and choose joy and I don't want to. I want to stay stuck in it." Wow. Next time just @ me, Matt.
I said this on a Pints video a few days ago, but Chesterton IS Tom Bombadil! I'm thoroughly enjoying this conversation. The only bummer about great podcasts is that we don't get to participate in the conversation.
Maria Bamford. She is a crazy, bizarre genius comedian. I will say I think she was funnier before, say, five or six years ago. These days I think she uses too many "lazy F bombs" to get her stories out, but in the pst when she talked a lot about her mental health struggles and her family and her awkwardness it was insanely and darkly funny. She is the only female comedian that truly makes my husband laugh. Check her out for sure. And here is what she would think if you find her just mediocre, lol: ruclips.net/video/_bL29cjJpd0/видео.html
Jennifer Fulwiler is pretty funny and Catholic. I'm kind of shocked you don't know who she is. Also I find the women who would be good at being standup comedians never seem to take that route.
I think Kathleen Madigan (not sure how to spell her name) is hilarious but she’s the only female comedian I would say is genuinely funny. PS she’s Catholic so you should have her on your show
Also, Ive never heard you mention Jim Gaffigan, who is hillarious. And clean, and Catholic! He's got like 5 or 6 kids. And his wife is his writing partner so she might not do stand up but she certainly contributes to great stand up.
@@Madiwildhair Well, they are seriously catholic in that his wife is a faithful mass-attending Catholic and its an important part of their life, but if you mean you don't know how faithful they are to all the magisterium of the church, that is a fair point. But his liberal politics aside I still find his comedy funn and mostly clean and he talkes about being Catholic and having five kids a fair bit, which is something Catholic families can relate to, etc.
Jimmy Akin- listens to astrophysics in adoration... because God created the ‘rules’ and speaks in math and physics. Not languages I’m adept at.. other than to realize God created the rules and built all material worlds based on those!
The discourse is so different from 1250. "Own common, common sense..." Nice. I'm guessing that Jesus didn't like dirty jokes, but his robe got filthy from time to time...and his feet! OMG. I'm not much into kissing scenes in movies. Most "sexy" jokes are yawn fests. Ball...A brilliant talent, and I am more of a fan of female standup comics. The authority point hits the mark... Most men I know are not funny. I am sad I'm not British. But I love Porto humor... Those northern, urban Portuguese men are fufufunny!!! It's scathingly gut-wrenching and leaves you with six-pack abs. INCELS might want to learn European Portuguese and spend some time in Porto. OK, sorry, I'll stop now. JP? I'm going to take a nap. Anyway, I love these conversations.
Father Parks presents as genuine, transparent, “real” in the very best sense. His homilies are always inspiring, educational, insightful and engaging. What a delight watching and listening to this, thank you for having him on Matt. Absolutely yummy, delightful.
"I love being Catholic. I love being Catholic. I love being Catholic."
"Why?"
"It's the best!"
You said it all, man.

God bless!

LOVED this episode. Fr. Parks is delightful and hilarious. Please have him on again, Matt.
Matt NEVER give this up until you feel called to and have sat on it. You have no idea how much you and your guests have impacted us viewers.

Yes Catherine Tate ia hilarious also Tracey Ullman.
I don't know much of her work, but I do love the fat baby episode with her, David Tennant and Sarah Lancashire.
Here in Latinamerica we have a great group of comidians from Argentina called Les Luthiers, they are pure gold, they are musicians that created so many shows with songs paroding and using wordplays. They were so great!
Jeanne Robertson is hilarious. From what I remember her stuff is pretty clean. My wife and I heard her on satellite radio years ago.

Lofty! ..when I hear lofty I imagine something silly or small or insignificant but it actually means something big and impressive
Jeanne Robertson recently deceased is very funny. I laugh so hard I cry and some things I laugh about for days.
I don’t know a lot of comedians, but I find some of Anjelah Johnson’s routines quite entertaining, especially her “Asian Nail” and “Mexican Mama” that went viral like 10 years ago.
Leanne Morgan!!
And maybe women comedians are funnier to women because they point out things that women relate to.
Why is the wooden Australia upside down all the time? I need to know!
Watch Matt's interview with Charbel Raish you will find out there. A great interview, the extended version. God Bless
Whoa. When you were asking about words that don't sound like the meaning "onomatopoeia" was the first to come to mind. And then Father said it...
Jennifer Fulwiler is hilarious!
Nate Bargatze is a clean comedian I’ve loved listening to lately. He’s got a great special on Netflix and his young daughter introduces him at most of his shows.
There's a bumper sticker I see often that I hate--"If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention."
1:08:10 does anyone know the article he’s referring to? The one about not becoming a Catholic hack?
Most Catholic non-Catholic film, I think, is Groundhog's Day
I enjoyed Yvonne Orji's stand up routine "Momma I made it!" on HBO. 🤷🏼♀️
"Have you ever had that experience where you feel sad and attacked and stuck and you WANT TO BE? Almost like I'm aware of this and could renounce this and choose joy and I don't want to. I want to stay stuck in it."
Wow. Next time just @ me, Matt.
I said this on a Pints video a few days ago, but Chesterton IS Tom Bombadil! I'm thoroughly enjoying this conversation. The only bummer about great podcasts is that we don't get to participate in the conversation.
Y’all too funny 🤣
Can you have Shia Labeouf on your channel?!
❤️
Matt have you ever had a priest who is an exorcist on your program?
I'm loving this episode soooo much
Love woman comic Jeanne Robertson, clean humor, here in YT. Sadly she died somewhat recently.
Jeanne Robertson
Yes! And she is funny because she presents herself very genuinely. She is a charming southern woman on stage who doesn't have to prove herself
I recently learned the word languid, and before I even knew the meaning it sounds like something long and slow
And here is what she would think if you find her just mediocre, lol:

❤💕
Onomatopoea….”rustle” “grind” “jump” “sweet” “plump” “scream”
Jennifer Fulwiler is pretty funny and Catholic. I'm kind of shocked you don't know who she is. Also I find the women who would be good at being standup comedians never seem to take that route.
I think Kathleen Madigan (not sure how to spell her name) is hilarious but she’s the only female comedian I would say is genuinely funny. PS she’s Catholic so you should have her on your show
Y'all need to research legendary female comedians' stand up acts such as Lily Tomlin and Bette Midler!!
Also, Ive never heard you mention Jim Gaffigan, who is hillarious. And clean, and Catholic! He's got like 5 or 6 kids. And his wife is his writing partner so she might not do stand up but she certainly contributes to great stand up.
Unfortunately, Jim and his wife are very liberal. Not sure how seriously Catholic they are.
Please make 3:16-3:25 a clip!
No funny stand-up female comedians?! 😯Jen Fulwiler!! She is Catholic, hilarious, and absolutely fabulous 🙌
Anyone have a time stamp on where they discussed idols vs icons?
25-ish minutes.
@@henrybarr7307 thank you sir!!

In the grapes of wrath, Steinbeck does a paragraph about a train and if you read it correctly, it sounds like a train.
