  • Starting going through all the soldier sets from the Atlantis collection I bought a while back. Started with the germans as they are the backbone of any young boys forces.

    Excellent. I thoroughly enjoy watching you enthuse about your favourite childhood toys. Good for you. Atlantic HO/OO crossed my path one time. And one time only. I think it was Custer's Last Stand? An Auntie thought it would be appreciated. How kind of her. Our Air Rifles appreciated their new targets greatly. A friend of mine got a huge set of Atlantic, identical to yours for Crimbo. It almost ruined his day. He spent Boxing Day down in the dumps. The best we could do was for each of us give him one of our Airfix Boxes of 1/32 Soldiers. As I mentioned before, his Atlantic Army died bravely during a sustained bombardment of fireworks and repeated volleys of of sustained shot.
    For just a few pennies per box. one could enjoy a weekend of marksmanship practice. Fantastic memories.
    Throw in candles, Cotton wool soaked in Methylated Spirit, windproof matches and some or those rubber capsules filled with Lighter fluid and... Thank goodness, a Trip to Casualty was paid for by the NHS.

      The trials and tribulations of sub par toy soldier.
      We took a few 1/32 chinese copies to the range the other day and shot them with the AR15 at 35-40 meters. Not that easy to hit but lots of fun.

      Funny we’ve been in our property for years and my husband still finds soldiers buried in the old sand pit.
      After a rain storm it’s amazing what ‘treasures’ appear..
      Sadly though time and weathering takes its tole on plastic. Missing limbs etc..
      He still regrets, as a child seventy years ago, burying a box full of soldiers in the garden of the house where he spent his child hood.
      That’s a country away now…but there for someone else, ( mebbe they have already),to discover..
      Dreams..
      Thanks for the program.

    • @toysoldiernostalgia
      @toysoldiernostalgia  Год назад +3

      That´s realy hard to say. The germans are a bit more expensive than some of the others and the sailors are pretty inexpensive. I guess between 25 and 70 euros depending on set and condition.

    Very interesting poses! Comparing them to the Airfix figures comes naturally, I still have lots of Airfix boxes, but no Atlantic boxes. I see Atlantic has decent MP40 armed figures - not that mysterious monstrosity included in the Airfix set.

    The different coloration is due to the stiffeners added and that affects the molding properties during production. The lighter blue ones have more Titanium or Calcium, the darker ones have more Aluminum, Chromium and Bromine. In the 1970's manufacturers could add Arsenic to the plastic if they wanted to, then concern over exposure to kids made them all slowly remove certain inorganics to the plastics and transition to organic colorants. This transition period meant some batches of soldiers get brittle easier, whereas others do not

    • @toysoldiernostalgia
      @toysoldiernostalgia  Год назад +4

      Well I´m pretty sure the white and green set of mountaintroops are only a difference in pigment not stiffeners. Or the red or blue Sailors or the green and blue flak guns.
      Airfix and Matchbox never had this variantion so I tend to think it´s deliberate as many sets vary totaly in color.

      Ah, thanks, I always wondered how they coloured plastic. What is the name of the chemicals that either harden or soften plastic. I saw a TV programme about it, but I forgot the names of the 2 ingredients and I couldn't find out via Google.
