Ovid was born on March 20, 43 BCE, in Sulmo, a town in the Rome Empire. Ovid spent much of his early life studying rhetoric and law, but Ovid's passion for poetry soon overtok his legal ambitions. Ovid's most famous work, Metamorphoses, is still considered one of the greatest narrative poems ever written. Despit his success, Ovid was exiled by Emperor Augustus in 8 CE to the remote town of Tomis, Where Ovid lived until his death in 17 or 18 CE. Ovid's influence on literature and art remains strong, with Ovid's writings shaping Western culture for centuries.
