@@erikpaul8647 the Yamaha PSS A50 has a MIDI looper but it is more a portable keyboard than a synth (you won't be able to “sculpt” the on-board sounds). It's around $100. The option would be a SonicWare Liven XFm. It has a very capable 4 track sequencer, and a super flexible and deep FM synth engine. It takes batteries and includes a decent speaker. It'd be a little over $200 but that is less than the cost of the two Volcas. Oh, on top of that it allows you to sequence external gear (If you wanted to integrate it to a bigger set up).
Looks interesting! I've got an MPK Mini MK3 and it's a great little controller (even a significant improvement over the MK2), but this would be tempting otherwise. Nice touch to have shift functions for the encoders so you still have the 8 controls.
It sounds like it’s got the same sounds from the previous Akai Mini Play which really is disappointing. The pads and knobs look a lot better but if they had included midi I/O and some different sound this would have been a better upgrade. 😕
Novation X station was a mini controller that they realised it had enough CPUs to be a great (wee) synth. I have one and it has. Ok it hasn't got a mini speaker but it is great thing from years ago.

I’ve been looking to pick up one of these to use as a trigger within Logic Pro and honestly thought (based on the pictures I saw) that the “ears” were made of wood- not red plastic.

I just bought one and am enjoying. Crushed there isn't a looper, particularly for the drums.

The only downside to it is the drums have too much reverb and there is no way to reduce it. The reverb knob only works on the keyboard 😢
So you can plug it in without the batteries and it still works!! Nice!

I think they know that considering this the MK3. A Mk3 version wouldn’t make much sense being there wasn’t a MK1.
