How about reducing the exposure to allow the background highlights to not be blown out then use a giant lighted umbrella to use fill light to enhance the shading of the tree yet make sure that the artificial lighting mimics the direction and intensity of the ambient lighting of the shaded area that will be captured. Then have the couple do a few dry relaxed walkthroughs to comfortably walk into the area lighted by the umbrella without having the camera shooting at them. Once they can feel comfortable and can comfortably saunter though the scene then have them do the real thing.
