SRV yawning, hungover, eyes looking like two holes burnt into a white blanket - picks up his Strat and starts playing a “soundcheck” that would be considered The Performance of a Lifetime by most other guitarists. Casually legendary !

In all the footage I've seen of SRV, he is spewing buckets of sweat from every pore. And then here, he walks out in a fur coat. Oh Stevie! 😜 It was a sad day when he left us.

Stevie told me that he played better "hot"...the reason why I hate summer outdoor shows is I loose too much control with the sweat on the neck. I will NEVER understand this...

Hey Justin👋💙So I am FINALLY getting around to commenting on your reaction😂😊😎. So how fun was that? It looks like you enjoyed it. He had just rolled out of bed, yawning, and rubbing his eyes. But once he is strapped in, no caffeine needed. The music wakes him up. This shows just how serious this group was about the music. They don't need an audience to perform at their best.
The guy we see between the 2nd and 3rd songs strapping Stevie up is the the well known Rene Martinez. Rene is a classical and flamenco guitarist Stevie met at Charley's guitar shop where he was Charley's guitar tech and repair guy. Stevie worked and worked to get Rene to be his guitar tech on the road and he would even open for them often.
You were quick to hear the Wah Wah pedal. Did you know that Stevie had Jimi Hendrix's pedal? Once when Jimi was playing in Austin, his pedal broke and no way to get another one on Saturday night. It happened that Jimmie Vaughan and The Fabulous Thunderbirds were opening for Jimi that night. Jimi traded him his broken pedal and $50 bucks to get a working pedal from Jimmie. Stevie played it for the rest of his life. And actually Stevie and Double Trouble once went to Jimi's father's house in Oakland when they were in the Bay Area and introduced themselves and Stevie asked his father for his blessing to cover Jimi's songs out of courtesy and respect. His father very much appreciated it. There is a photo they took with him and you can Google it and see Jimi's dad.
Since I think you like to do SRV videos that are less common but interesting or different, I am pasting a link to a 1987 Daytona Beach concert where he plays Love Struck Baby. It is a fast, fun, and he takes his hat off, puts the guitar behind his head, and starts doing some boot scooting boogie dancing as well! I can't find a higher quality video but good enough to enjoy🎶💙‼️

I heard the vocals very well....that day....I WAS THERE.....hahahaha, and you can hear me laughing when Reese Bit The Dust & kept playing.......I couldn't see Reese in the moment of collapse because Stevie & Tommy were screening me out right at that critical moment plus seeing over the B3....but it was hysterical. You can see Me in the grey sweatshirt behind Rene on the 3rd song guitar change. AND just for a tidbit......there was a purple STRAT ...well the official color was Burgundy Mist...That Jimmie V had that he whipped out earlier as we waited for Stevie to show up that day. This was video done by a KDKA TV news crew for a piece on the 6pm news that day.....I had to get them autographs hahahaha

SRV had some STYLE.. not sayin' it was "tasteful" style.,. but he had his thang.... Who TF does their sound-check in hat & coat? well, yes, SRV.. (seems like the mic is deliberately low... giving the band & crew a chance to get those things right... he will bring the gravel in the live... don't tear it up too early ) lol (P.S. interesting he uses "alternate" guitar for some of it - guessing b/c it's not unlikely that he will break a string and have to sub...)

Rory was the equal to Clapton, Hendrix and Beck I the 70's but followed his own path, sacrificing fame for the music itself.
