    Like your set up, very good, I was a surface grinder for 20 years, I used it to build my 3 inch scale traction engine, it is amazing what you can do when you need too, My boss never had a clue what i was doing.

    Bugger, the poor old lass was in a right state 😢 glad she’s coming back to life again😊. Nice little adaptation Norm👌 I’m going to have to start learning all this tooling/machinery stuff… my mates donating a fair chunk of gear to me in the next couple of years 🫣😬

    Hi Norm. That was an interesting adaptation of the lovely Adept lathe. The ability to grind cylinders is indeed a useful step up for you. Well done. 👏👏👍😀

    Hi Norman, like the use of lickle lathe, 1 thing can you grinder on the top of the job so can use fine feed, even if got remove mag for a bit of time
    seeing clamp to stop table movement 🙈🙈 scary thing.

      @@steamtrainmaker Cheers Steve, My first thought was to have wheel above job but unfortunately that left me with no way to fine tune any taper that we get in the pin. (Don’t think the head stock and tail stock are at the same height). Think I need a bigger clamp ??

    I thought about making a setup like that for my surface grinder. I have a tool post grinder for my lathe that I can grind pins on, the draw back to doing it on a lathe is you need to keep it covered really good. Cheers👍

    Nice work good clean but if kit. But I’m not following you? Why can you use a normal lathe for this? (Sorry I’m not so good at this metal work stuff)

    • @VintageIronuk
      @VintageIronuk  3 дня назад +2

      @@Nick-pr5gw We have made the pins out of a hardening steel. We turned the pins to be a bit bigger than what we need in the lathe. Then they get heat treated making them hard. This treatment will likey bend and warp the pins so we then grind them to the finished size. This ensures that they will last another 100years without wearing out.

    I was just thinking , wondering, with all the steam engines about . 100+ years ago, with internal combustion engines coming about. I wonder if anyone attempted to convert a stem engine reactor like this to internal combustion? A cylinder sleeve with water jacket could be pressed into the bore, the steam inlets used for water cooling cast and mill a head with large valves. Possibly 75mm intake valve and 50-60 mm exhaust. Connect a timing chain to the cam in the head. Or use a cam box at the crank using pushrods. With about 50lbs closed seat pressure, maybe 80 open,nose pressure it's not going to rev too high rpm. If someone fets in a hurry, maybe

    Blimey can’t you disconnect the traverse handle normally push or pull it to disconnect it that looks dangerous.

      @@Paul-pb3vq Would only be dangerous if you grabbed ahold of it 👍 yes pull out to disconnect. You only get whacked in the knuckles a couple times before you learn to stand clear.
