Great idea to include some a Aloominum in the bracket so you can measure bananas as well as metric on the DRO 🙂

Good. That will save you some time while machining.

Nice job Max, it turned out well. When I put them on my Bridgeport clone it was brand new with no wear. Because of this the DRO did not show any unusual movement. When I put a DRO on my, well used, Fexac horizontal mill it quickly exposed the wear in that mill. Especially knee tilt left and right. The Z-axis would change as the table moved back and forth on the X-axis. I was a bit confused at first until I realized the Z-axis was showing the knee tilting left and right as the table moves and the weight shifted. Inspite of that they are a great addition to any machine, but especially a mill. In a few months you'll likely wonder how you ever got by without them. Ken

My counterpart weather report as to Swan Valley is 0 degrees C with snow and freezing fog. Also report warm study and shop area with venture to nearby tractor repair (Yesterday) and otherwise nip of burbon to restore antifreeze. Delighted to be watching interesting mounts to DRO as precision metric to tool travel. Thanks for having me along, Max. M.

Did you go visit Kurtis and teach him a few new tricks or did he show the old dog some new moves???
Glad you had a great break away.

Great to see you back Max!! Lovely bit of work on fitting that DRO - just fitted a cheap one to my Tom Senior Mill but need to check it very carefully to make sure it really is accurate!

Nice one Max, your X axis bracket looks similar to mine but better. Nice to see the old MK socket on the control cabinet.

    Hi Max, nice tidy installation.
Installed my first DRO back in the mid nineties, 2 Axis Accurite on my BP clone.
    Cost then was $2500 Aud!
Buy them a lot cheaper now and more features.
Interestingly your mill was made just around the corner in Jurong where I worked.
No more living in the dark ages, DRO is the way to go.

Hi Max. It is good to get away from the shop every now and then. The DRO install looks great and will be good addition to the Bridgeport. Cheers

Nice to see you back on deck Max, we were about to send out a search party. 😉😂😂
Hope you enjoyed the well earned break, and that Homeless didn’t take your leg off. 😜😉
Was looking forward to seeing the DRO completed & working, & with any luck it will serve you well and save you a heap of time as well.
Now hurry up & show us the slide way grinder build please. 🙏
Having a few withdrawal symptoms & not sure this one will be enough to scratch the itch. 😂😂
Are Kurtis & Karen paying a return visit any time soon? 🤷‍♂️

I’ve been adding DROs to all of my equipment over the years. After you do that, it’s hard to believe you lived without it. I’ve added one to the quill as well. I dislike those crappy caliper based models as they’re just plus or minus 1.5 thousandths. If you’re willing to sacrifice a high end model for it you get to, at best, plus or minus 1 thousandth. I use 1 micron scales for everything. They don’t cost that much more, but you know, for certain, that your 1 tenths reading is accurate and repeatable. Not so with the more common 5 micron scales. I’ve also added it to my tailstock, and most recently, to my surface grinder, just for the vertical, as that’s the only critical direction. I like these things so much I’m trying to convince myself to add them to my drill presses as well, but that might be going too far. I didn’t connect the separate ground wire as it’s grounded through the power cord. I’ve also replaced the older 3 phase motors on several pieces of equipment with good inverter motors and VFDs. Nice!

G'day Max. DRO's are always fidly, but you got there in the end, which looks ok. I would have used all Aluminium metals, instead of that silly Aloommminummm. Those are a funny 😢😮😅😊🎉
Well done, & looks good 👍🏻

Glad to hear you had a visit with Kurtis and Karen. While you were away I stumbled across some videos about tuned mass dampers used on skyscrapers and watched a presentation by Edd China on some boring bars made by Sandvik Coromant. They have developed theirs with dampers inside, but I wasn't able to determine if they made any difference with run out. The bars appear to be very sturdy and I imagine quite expensive. Any thoughts on their advantages ? Cheers

I used 2 those same 3 counter bores on the knee to mount my Y scale. Mine were already drilled and tapped, made it easy.
But it bothers me that I do not know the original purpose of those 3 counter bores? Can someone please let me know?

Hope you had a good time on the other coast Max and have some video of the workshop visits. I've only been to your neck of the woods, Fremantle and Bunbury. Best night ashore at the Burley Hotel in Bunbury, many a midi dropped that night, fond memories even 40 something years on.
Done a couple of DRO scales recently, tend to be a bit of a bugger in my experience. And why the hell are the standard glass ones so big? It cannot be beyond the wit of man to make them considerably smaller. I have put a magnetic micro scale on my lathe so that I can get at the adjusting fixings, the old glass scale covered up. But they are considerably more expensive and the resolution is not as fine

What the heck you didn't even show us how you made sure the reader was level with the top of the table, but you showed us tapping a hole like who hasn't seen someone tap or hole before I was interested in seeing the methodology to measure from the reader to the top of the table, but you didn't even show us that but we're watching you tap a hole like that is interesting
