      Probably some people can reduce more scalp DHT than others with the same dose or the hair folicle is able to regrow better after the folicle already been miniaturized compared to normal people. I don't know if it is a known topic, other theory I heard is types of 5AR, FIN blocks type 2 and if someone really almost only has type 2 on hair folicles it is going to work better compared to someone who has more type 1 commpared to the other guy, because FIN doesn't block type 1 significantly

      No, once in adult hood it is testosterone that is responsible for the development of facial hair. That is why people can have high DHT levels and still have shitty facial hair, it is based on genetics. Topical minoxidil applied to the face can certainly help, check out the minoxbeards subreddit.

    I've started fin 7 month ago, 1,25mg per day. Before the treatment I did a bloodwork showing 1340pg/ml of DHT
    Two weeks ago I did another bloodwork to estimate the efficacy of Fin and got 1050pg/ml
    So I have about 20% DHT reduction instead of 50-60%
    Should I get worried? Maybe I should start Dut?

    I've been doing some 'research' and I'm still wondering if it's safe for my wife and I to have s** as she has a copper iud, and also oral...
    I know oral dut would definitely be a no no, but with claims of dut not being systemic when applied topically, in low dosages with a good amount of time, hopefully some of the benefits of would be apparent over time without affecting life drastically, would sincerely appreciate any advice (as I continue doing further research on the topic aswell).

      If you're worried about shedding then what do you think is going to happen if you don't get on treatment? You're still going to shed, except the hair is never going to come back.
      You can either use finasteride, shed and the hair comes back stronger.
      Or...
      You can not use finasteride, shed and lose the hair forever.
      Seems like a no brainer decision to me. The longer you wait to start treatment, the harder it is going to be to recover lost ground.
      RU didn't give me any additional shed but that is probably because I didn't notice any additional benefits beyond just finasteride and minoxidil.
      Don't fear the shed though, it means the treatment is working. If you want to use something that will give you a good cosmetic look while you recover from the shed then try Caboki concealer.

    Kevin, I know you talked about how developing gyno from finasteride is extremely rare and even if it does happen due to the hormonal balances caused by the drug, you could get surgery to get the entire gland removed and the gyno would never return. However, i heard that surgeons don’t completely remove the gland due to aesthetic reasons, and some believe that the gyno could potentially return if the cause for it (in this case finasteride) is not removed. I guess this ties into bodybuilding and if enhanced bodybuilders need to stop their steroid usage after surgery in order to prevent their gyno from coming back. Just curious what your thoughts are on this matter and if you heard about this before. Thanks.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  15 дней назад +2

      A lot of surgeons will remove the gland, you just have to request it specifically. The reason why some don't like to do it is because it can make the nipple go concave. However, a competent surgeon can do follow up surgery to correct this.
      I know surgery is never an ideal option but gyno surgery is still cheaper and safer than a hair transplant which has no guarantee of even looking good to begin with.

    • @carson8527
      @carson8527 15 дней назад

      @@haircafekevin I thought they always leave a tiny bit of gland tissue behind to support the nipple, which could make it grow back, but I could be completely wrong about this because my knowledge on this is very limited. But you are saying that all the gland tissue can be removed and follow up surgery can be performed to correct the concave nipple, right? Also, I do agree with you that gyno surgery or even a corrective surgery are worth it, assuming that the hormonal imbalances that caused it in the first place do not cause it to grow back again.

    "an awful lot of traits have evolved that exist not because they're adaptive but because they're spandrels" - Robert Sapolsky quoting Stephen Jay Gould
    Stephen Jay Gould and Richard Lewontin introduced the term "spandrel" to describe traits that are byproducts of other evolutionary changes, rather than being directly selected for adaptive purposes. This term, borrowed from architecture, refers to the triangular space that forms between two arches. In evolutionary biology, a spandrel is a feature that arises as a necessary consequence of other developments and does not itself have an adaptive function. For example, the human chin may be considered a spandrel, resulting from changes in the shape of the face rather than being a trait selected for its own sake. This concept challenges the idea that every trait has a direct adaptive purpose, suggesting that some traits are simply incidental byproducts of evolutionary processes.

    As usual, something amazing, as we are accustomed to seeing you. I have a simple question, Kevin my big bro. Will there be any effects on the finasteride industry due to the political situation taking place in the world now? Will there be any effects in the coming term on its prices or hoe its availability in global markets for people?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  14 дней назад

      I don't think so. It's all generic now, it is manufactured all over the world, and there is a lot of demand. So I don't think there will be any problems with availability or price, unless there is some earth-shaking global event, in which case maybe going bald will be the least of our problems.

    Amazing research!! I have a question Kevin. If I'm not mistaken some cases of finasteride's side effects go away with continued use. You believe that this might be due to the time required for your body to adapt to the change in estrogen/testosterone balance. Correct me if I'm wrong.
    So are there any studies on finasteride treatment protocols that slowly ramp up the dose over a few months from 0.1mg to 0.5mg per day? Would be interesting to see if that lowers the incidence of side effects.
    What do you think?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  10 дней назад

      It's true that in more than 50% of cases the sides go away, usually in the first year. However, I don't know of any studies looking at ramping up the dose. There are a few studies on microdosing, but it would be interesting if someone looked at ramping up the dose to see if that helps with the body's adjustment to the changing hormone levels.

      Try lowering to .5 or .25 every other day and see if that helps. If it even makes it more tolerable then push through and the side effects will subside with time. After trying that i suppose you could try the topical route.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  14 дней назад

      That will almost certainly be a transient side effect. Lower you dose further and try to push through. If not, consider switching to topical fin.

    Hey choom does washing my hair with water in the shower cause hair loss or make it worse? I’m on fin (almost 3 years) and I got a lot of hair shedding in the shower if I put water on my hair… is this bad to do frequently for hair loss?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  11 дней назад +1

      Nah, all that is hair that would've fallen out anyways. You just see it more in the shower because of the increased friction.
      Hair growth is cyclical and everybody sheds in the shower.

I was on it a few months and had mental health struggles but I wasn’t sure if it was situational and I blamed it on the dut… is it possible this was just nocebo? Hey Kev, what is best to use with topical minoxidil? Melatonin, retinoic acid, azelaic acid, caffeine or all? I'm preparing a mix, which ones do you think I should add?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  10 дней назад

      Tretinoin is the only thing I'd consider adding, but only if you are a non responders to topical minoxidil.
      The rest of the compounds are not backed by any strong evidence.

    Hey Kev, if i get sides from fin, would dut be a good option to try? or would the fin sides indicate id feel the same on dut?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  14 дней назад +1

      It is possible you'll respond better to dutasteride. It is a different drug after all.
      Another option is to lower your dose of finasteride to 0.5 or 0.2 MG daily or every other day.

    Does the temperature of finasteride bottle have effects on the efficacy of the pill?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  12 дней назад

      No, finasteride can remain efficacious in our gut which can be 99 degrees Fahrenheit. You probably still want to avoid letting it sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time though.
      Just keep it in a shaded area, you can even put it in your refrigerator.
