What is your favorite Desktop Theme? P.S. Had to Reupload because prior video was demonetized. "Manual Review" failed and they deemed this video too dangerous lol.
I don't comment often, and also watch mostly off the TV from another specific account, but this I would like to see every month or so, explaining how to configure different environments, or AwesomeWM to different things. Thanks for the videos, they really are awesome, pun intended 😄
Great stuff! Looking forward to seeing this become a recurring topic. It's one of the reasons I changed to Linux... making it look how I want. And I guess there are even topics to go a little bit deeper into Linux customization. Not sure what theme I'm using btw. It's been a while since I changed
Nothing here suits my work-flow or aesthetics, BUT **Good Lord**! A lot of effort that has been put into making this "just so", and that I can most certainly appreciate!
Could you please show us more personalisations of this desktop model? I would like for example to make the wibox vertical and a bit bigger. Would be possible fo you to explain how to do it? Also I would like to add more icons to the top. Besides that, could you go through the widget code with us? Most of my widgets aren't working and I don't know why. For example brightness and battery, both don't appear. Thank you do much for making this config available. I am new at WM and it is helping me a lot to learn to get it the way I like. Best regards
Awesome video Chris! (Pun intended) I have a question about scaling though. I've been using Pop! OS for about a year and I love the distro. I really like the Pop Shell extension that provides window tiling, but I want to fully try out AwesomeWM and see if a full tiling WM is better for my usage. I have AwesomeWM fully installed, themed, and running. However, my monitor is a 65" Sony TV and everything is WAY TOO small. With the Pop Shell, there is a setting under displays that allows me to scale (200% works great), and to turn on HiDPI. I've done some preliminary Internet searches, but really haven't found anything that talks about scaling AwesomeWM for use with large-screen TVs. Is there a setting in the LUA confoguration files or lxappearance that I am missing?
I haven't fully fixed my issue yet, but I am on the right track. I have rofi working at the right dpi now by adding a dpi setting in the config.rasi file. I'm guessing that Xresources might be the ultimate solution.
I tried doing the first and second step.. after cloning i logged out and logged in using awesome.. but the screen just turned black and nothing happens!! 😭😭😭
@Chris Titus Tech , can you some day make a video on how to add the battery icon / monitor using this awesomeWM desktop? i have gone through the github, checked the battery widget code, tried to install it , by adding the code to the rc.lua file, to no avail, i just "bork" the system. Sorry if it's too noob of a question. Thanks anyway.
I've used awesomeWM for a while, and since I saw no immediate way to have the icon, I made a small python script that uses acpi to check the battery and give me notifications. Huge mistake. Barely usable.
Love it. Can we have an animated background like kde desktop environment? Would love to have the Matrix animated background like you have but as the wallpaper. Been trying to figure out how to do it without going the KDE desktop environment route again.
at 15:11 you showed really cool theme but i have been going through all of your video and cant find it... please make that customisation for awesome WM
Hey Chris, I really appreciate the work you've done here. In the off chance you see this. Could you explain to me how to make the top bar larger? Upon adjusting my resolution to 3440x1440 the tool bar is so tiny I can' barely see it.
So the theming and all that is cool... I do not like the key bindings in this setup though. I had just gotten used to the defaults in awesome and this changes all of it.
Coming from the car communities where "rice" is generally laughed at & frowned upon (at least in my groups), i find it interesting how in the linux community rice is in fact a welcomed & encouraged thing.
I've tried following along but yours has things mine doesn't. I can't get the curser for a start the XL appearance? I have 2 appearance tabs and none lead to the pages you go 2.
Hey Chris, is there any reason as why none of my applications want to close in awesome? They don't seem to be running anymore (e.g. nautilus) but when I do Super+Q or click the close button it still shows the not responding interface
Mr. Chris I have 2 problems, I wish u can help me with it, 1st: can't put google chrome as the default browser with the shortcut, 2nd: it seems that I can't extend my dual screen, display settings isn't showing diplays either the main laptop screen nor TV monitor... Any help would be appreciated
Hi Chris, You are doing an awesome job. I would like to know if you have made any videos for installations without the grub bootloader. If not then please do a video on that especially for Arch Linux without the grub bootloader.
Yes it's an AwesomeWM feature. By default it's super-s, but he changed it to super-f1 which is an choice I greatly agree with. However he changed many other default shortcuts in ways I highly disagree with too, but that can be edited to the liking of whoever uses it. Also, when using vim, bringing up the cheatsheet also shows many vim commands.
I installed this on VirtualBox and everything loaded. When I open a terminal, it doesn't allow me to type anything into it. Also, many other things. I open the main search super+r and it won't let me type into it. What am I doing wrong?
I would love to use Linux and customize everything but I’m a teen and my dad would just say to use windows and that I’m crazy and don’t know what I’m doing
You can also set a random wallpaper from your .wallpapers/ folder with a script like this: #!/bin/bash feh --no-fehbg --bg-fill "$(find ~/.wallpapers/ | shuf -n1)"
Can you please make a script which will completely uninstall the chromium edge and older edge from Windows 20H2 version? Also include the removal of cortana from windows 10 20H2 as well, while keeping the search feature intact. I believe a lot of people like myself would be looking for these scripts. I did come across a script on the internet, which claimed it would uninstall the edge from Windows 10 version 1903. I could not test the script back then due to busy schedule and now I am unable to find the link to that website.

This is actually helpful even for people with their themes set up. Thanks.

Absolutely make this a monthly walkthrough series.

It's like building your own car. You can choose the tires that suit you best, pick the fastest engine and color it the way you want.

Would you please share us what do you mean by this from 15:10? Is this Hyperland or AwesomeWM theme? I’m looking for same theme for AwesomeWM 🙏
How do you get the right-click menu back?
I tried doing the first and second step.. after cloning i logged out and logged in using awesome.. but the screen just turned black and nothing happens!! 😭😭😭
Please make a guide for that works with fedora/rhel

would be great to see to use e.g. awesome-wm-widgets as their examples doesn't fit your config

Another vote for monthly ricing! :)

Great video!
What is the theme name of that qtile window manager you have just showed into your video in the last moment?
Niceeee chriss!
Like for mentioning vim and vscodium 👍
We need more of those videos!!!!!!! Please!!!!!!!

Hello Chris, can you help me with a link to get this white icons with no background color. Thank you!

Is there gonna be awesome video for arch ?

Hey I downloaded tron recently, when I go to copy the resources and tron.bat, there is no tron.bat, any ideas on what wrong there?
is it possible to set bing daily wallpapers in gdm or light-dm?
Hey Chris, Can you pls post the terminal you have on the github.
Please make more like these awesomewm videos
What is making the super-F1 cheatsheet happen? Is this a AwesomeWM feature?
Yes it's an AwesomeWM feature. By default it's super-s, but he changed it to super-f1 which is an choice I greatly agree with. However he changed many other default shortcuts in ways I highly disagree with too, but that can be edited to the liking of whoever uses it.

Great.. but i hope U make more zoom in for the window. So i can see more cleary. Thanks
idk why but his autostart line in his command in that apps.lua file never works for me I always have to setup autostart myself
I love it but except for most of the keyboard shortcuts. Luckily I can probably change them with sufficient ease.
Hey, thank you for great configuration.
I just consider how to toggle folder structure?
I am unable to toggle file system using alt + h, can anyone help me to figuring out this problem?
Why are video wallpapers still not a thing on so many WMs and DEs ?
because it doesn't make sense to sit in front of a computer watching a desktop background 😀

@Memz Buck why would it get demonetized?

please make a video of ricing bspwm

Dual boot ? Or just customise and learn to script the process to make it easier and show ur parents 😉
You can also set a random wallpaper from your .wallpapers/ folder with a script like this:
#!/bin/bash
feh --no-fehbg --bg-fill "$(find ~/.wallpapers/ | shuf -n1)"
why use vscode? better use emacs or vim ;)
Do someone know an easy way to bring feature with cheatsheet to KDE?
Does anybody know how to decrease increase brightness in awesome?
No even I have the same issue.
I wish it were monthly
Maybe one day we'll see a qtile rice on this channel
