You mentioned taking photographs of flowers in your garden. Flower photography often requires the ability to focus close. The minimum focusing distance of the new lens is 19cm. This is great improvement on that of the old lens, which has a minimum focusing distance of 28cm. The new lens is capable of creating beautiful sunbursts, far better than the old lens. The bokeh of the new lens is not as attractive as that of the old lens. I owned the old lens for four years and recently replaced it with the new lens. I am very satisfied with the new lens.
One wonders if some differences you noted were due to field curvature, possibly on the older lens. I don't know how close to the plain of focus some of the objects on the side of the frame in some shots were. The one with the wooden item, for example. Lenses are getting very pricey these days, but then so is food.
Hello Jackie, an interesting vlog would be a comparison between the image quality of pictures taken on X-S20 and X-T5 with the Fujifilm XF23mm f/1.4 R LM WR
Nice work Jackie. I don’t have either lens but I do have the virtually identical new 18 f1.4 and 33 f.1.4. The new lenses are really solid and excellent performers. Good decision on the 23mm 1.4 WR.
Thanks for sharing! I’ve heard good things about the 33 mm, but I have the original 35 mm 1.4 and I’m very attached to it. I watched a ton of videos comparing the 33 and 35. Have you ever owned the 35?
Nice video that makes me understand, how different are the criteria and the priorities of each photographer. I prefer the old one for two reasons: 1-It is more compact and lighter 2-With clutch focusing alows me to shoot in hyperfocal easily, and this is very important to me in street photography. Weather sealing and silent focus are important, but not my priorities.
Oh, I was going to say when you mentioned that you take a lot of photos of insects and flowers that you NEED to get yourself a macro lens but you already have the fuji 80mm. You should do a video testing that lens with the new 40mp sensor for macro subjects. If you haven't already gotten into macro photography I would highly recommend it along with some essentials like a compact flash from godox such as their tt350f and a mini tripod from "Aoka" (Amazon $80).
Nice video again. Thanks so much. Do you have comments on the eye af on the original 23mm on the xt5 versus older bodies? I have the older 35mm 1.4 and 56mm 1.2 and looking for this focal length. I shoot a variety, but portraits of people/family (inc fidgety 2 and 5 year olds) are a must, so is decent eye af. I wonder if the eye af on the 23mm improved with the xt5. The 56mm went from being unusable (missing focus over 80 % of time on x-s10), to just working on the xt5. Any insights welcome
Thanks for watching. I did not have an opportunity to test eye AF on the original 23mm with the X-T5. Wonder if anyone else might be able to chime in? The AF in general seems to be much better on the X-T5. I do have both of the other lenses you mentioned and will try testing them on the X-T5.
@@JackieDElia thanks, will be really interested. They seem even better with newest fw. Good enough I can forget about the afternoon performance and enjoy taking photos...
I do like the Viltrox and actually are using it for the next video coming up. It is well built and the aperture ring is really firm. Still need to do more testing with it on the photography side.
Thanks for the comment. I am really enjoying the XT-5 and the new 23 mm lens is going to be spending quite a bit of time on the camera. Yes Henry will be back. 🐈⬛

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am happy as well with the new 23mm 1.4 lens.

Very usefull. Thank You. Wil be usefull to test the 16-80 on XT-3 and XT-5 to see if there is big differences... :)

Hello. Thank you for the suggestion. I was actually planning that for a future video. I’m very curious to see the results.
Hello! I have the 23 r lm wr as well. It doesnt have a clunky sound when you tumble it over.
Good to know!

The field of view is different as the WR lens is longer so is closer to the subject. 😂
The original is so aesthetically pleasing

You are so right. It is all about what each photographer needs and wants. Thank you so much for watching the video.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve already got that covered. I’ve been doing macro for 5 years.
The old one is such a beauty with her clutch focusring.
That is really nice. Thanks for watching.

Great review
If i upgrade from the XT3 to the XH2
tho I am keeping my original lenses . I can throw them away
Viltrox 27 or 13 or voigtlander 35 ❤
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Really great review, nice video thank you for sharing!
Thank you very much for watching. Glad you enjoyed it.
They both seem to work well indeed, the last 2 points are worth thinking about and helped you make your mind up. How are you finding the Viltrox?

Great review, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you.
Thanks for watching.
I have the new 23mm which I really like on my XT-5. Lovely to see Henry again - I hope he makes an appearance in all your videos!
Thanks for the comment. I am really enjoying the XT-5 and the new 23 mm lens is going to be spending quite a bit of time on the camera. Yes Henry will be back. 🐈⬛
Strange, the front element on the newer 23mm looks smaller.
I believe it is. The old lens was 62 mm thread and the new one is 58 mm. Thanks for watching.
Very informative. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Nice! You smoke AVO? Good choice! 👌👌👌
No. Just loved the orange box. 😄
I once had a cat named Sir Henry Morgan short Henry 🥹🥰
