However I don't shoot video at all yet it is the fact that I am a landscape photographer, with my XT4 permanently switched to manual focus mode, that makes this such a deal breaker - maybe you could mention this alongside your comments regarding videography/manual focus?!
Is manual focus for landscape photography important? Pretty much all landscapes are shot at f/8 or f/11 right? Wouldn't everything in infinity be in focus regardless of manual of AF-S?
@@professionalpotato4764 yes often a landscape shot is taken at infinity, but the exact infinity focus point on a lens can change due to temperature and pressure differences, so it is usually wise to check manually. However, more pertinently for my work, I do also take plenty of 'landscape' shots at closer range, i.e. not at infinity. For these kinds of shots the object in focus may be a part of a tree or other foliage that is hard to isolate using autofocus, but very easy using manual focus with magnification. The jumpy manual focus feel of some autofocus lenses is a royal pain in the *** for these kinds of situations. Sanity check: I know that I am not the only photographer who often shoots in this way ;)

I have both lenses with this feature, the 23mm as well as the 16mm and I think it's more of an annoyance. You knock back the ring too easily in your bag or when carrying the camera and as most other lenses and X100 variants dont have this feature I often use the switch on the camera first just to realize I should have pulled back that ring. In the end Fuji must have thought the same and is dropping this feature from their lineup for good.

When I first got my x100t I was super excited because of the reviews but soon realized I hated using it because of the 35mm FOV which I wasn't used to whatsoever. After a few months I began to like the x100 for what it could do instead of hating it for what it couldn't and now 35mm is my most used focal length. That being said I think people should realize that when most photographers say "Oh I love my 35mm" they are talking about a full frame 35mm 1.4 (sigma/canon/nikon/sony) which provides an awesome "wide + shallow depth of field" look. (Not saying there are no good 35mm eq for micro 4/3 or APS-C)
I’m excited about this lens and have it on pre-order. Having said that, I have a suggestion or request. Could you create an episode comparing current high end full frame combinations (such as an SL2 with an SL Summicron) with the GFX 50S II and GFX 100/100S and lens? I say “and” because I am also curious how the 50MP and 102MP versions compare since they are using the same size sensor and thus reducing the pixel size. My basic question is whether high end lenses, such as the SL Summicron line, designed to resolve well beyond 100MP, make up for the somewhat smaller sensors in full frame systems. I know it is largely a question of the viewer’s impression, and I would love to hear your discussion.
I love you guys and I know it’s not your choice but I’m sick of the “*it’s pre-pro so everything we say is subject to change” p-reviews. I wish the RUclips incentive structure was different so that the camera companies couldn’t get away with this nonsense.
Generally speaking, the best image quality comes from the largest sensors. Fuji also sells medium format cameras that have amazing quality, but that comes at a cost. There's a lot more that goes into a purchase decision. What's the right balance of cost, size/weight, and image quality? I think Fuji has a great formula here, but everyone's needs are different. Modern full frame cameras will have better image quality than this, but by how much? Is that worth carrying bigger, heavier, and more expensive lenses? What about features that make it easier to get the shot? What about video? Menu systems? That's why Chris and Jordan often end up asking, "Who is this camera for?'
@@danieldougan269 seemingly, the Fuji sensors are all designed by Sony - so how can they be "better"? It is not just the size but the ability of each pixel. Just having more is not necessarily better. GFX 100 and Sony 60M are "likely" the same sensor technology. The difference is likely in the lens and how fuji interprets the sensor data. Seemingly they are better at interpreting the sensor data than Sony themselves! Of course perhaps better lens too. Usually when this happens, it is because the actual component comes from a different source - not so uncommon e.g. google maps interprets motion sensors in iPhone better than Apple can ;-)
Looks like a nice lens, but I don't get why the linear focus motor and manual focus clutch are mutually exclusive. Is this also the case with other brands that have manual focus clutches? By the way, did Chris stick to his promise or did Jordan just cut out all but one of his many complaints in editing? ;-) Regarding video quality, I thought it looked a bit like overcooked HDR (Edit) rewatched it and it's actually only the shot starting at 0:30 with a backlit Chris in front of the river that looks unnatural to me, the rest looks fine
It's funny that the 23mm F2 generally gets left out of the conversation any time someone talks about the 23mm lenses. The 23mm F2 is such a good lens (especially considering that it's half the price and size) that it deserves to be included in the conversation.
I have the old 23mm F1.4 R and am really please with the results, but because I like smaller bodies and lenses, the new 23mm WR LM isn't for me. That being said Please ask Fuji to update their 23mmF2 to the newer X100V lens formula, or the 18mmF2 to WR LM and make them under 150g, I mean it's definitely possible since Canon has one that's 100g, and Leica has one that's also around 150g. Heck Fuji has one tucked in the X100V and VI! These would be awesome lenses. I mean I love my X100V but it's really inconvenient to carry 2 bodies around travelling! It's really annoying to know that the X100V lens is so much better than the current 23mmF2 because of the close focusing problem. And it IS a problem not a feature, because I have owned the X100T/F/V and know the difference is dramatic! Please Fuji! Sorry for the bother, as I have posted this numerous times in your channel, and know you have asked many times as well. But thank you for all your videos!
I bought the Viltrox 23/1.4 hoping it would outperform Fuji or would be close to it, but no. It's sharp in the center and then gets mushy very fast, it's almost like gaussian blur. It happens wide open and still at 2.0. Shame. Who can blame it though, it doesn't cost nearly as much as Fuji equivalent.
Still rocking the OG 27mm which I got for £100 as a grey import. It’s not always on my camera but it never leaves my every day carry bag as it’s just so damn small.
what does WR mean? wide range? so would 'distortion" be an issue? i have a 18-55mm lens and i cannot bear its distortion so I so often use the 35mmF1.4 but its coverage is too narrow so I think 23mm would be a much better choice just in case it has no distortion

True that the Fuji primes needed a bit of “age makeover” and Fuji seems to be addressing a lot of the complaints about the “old” lenses. More relevant perhaps is that they are improving optical quality to have a reasonable amount of optics to fully benefit from the upgrade in sensor that is forthcoming in 2022. Would you know which lenses of the recent crop can actually fully support the 40 (43)MP sensor that should go into the H2?

By the way, did Chris stick to his promise or did Jordan just cut out all but one of his many complaints in editing? ;-)
Regarding video quality, I thought it looked a bit like overcooked HDR
(Edit) rewatched it and it's actually only the shot starting at 0:30 with a backlit Chris in front of the river that looks unnatural to me, the rest looks fine
He s EXCITED to play with IT!!
Would like to see a head to head comparison between Chris and Jordan. Your heads. Compared, just like lenses.
It's funny that the 23mm F2 generally gets left out of the conversation any time someone talks about the 23mm lenses. The 23mm F2 is such a good lens (especially considering that it's half the price and size) that it deserves to be included in the conversation.
It’s a 2.8 equivalent (actually f3) for depth of field so I think that is why but it is a very nice little lens
What was this video shot on? Also the XF23mmf1.4RLMWR?
I'd rather sell my XF23 and get the XF18 instead.
Shame. Who can blame it though, it doesn't cost nearly as much as Fuji equivalent.
i watch your videos strictly for the sarcasm and you never disappoint ;)
Still waiting for my Fuji 27mm pancake that I ordered 6 months ago. Still backordered.
Still rocking the OG 27mm which I got for £100 as a grey import. It’s not always on my camera but it never leaves my every day carry bag as it’s just so damn small.
Same here
what does WR mean? wide range? so would 'distortion" be an issue? i have a 18-55mm lens and i cannot bear its distortion so I so often use the 35mmF1.4 but its coverage is too narrow so I think 23mm would be a much better choice just in case it has no distortion
weather resistant
What kind of measurement are you using? Kiwi? What is it in metric noct?
This video is gorgeous. What camera and lens was used?
Most of the time is Panasonic s1H and 24-70 2.8 s pro
@@Weird_Quests I think this video was shot on something different; it really looked good. Noticeably improved
@@MichaelRichards983 oh - maybe. I’ve seen a few comments about the R3 - but I’m guessing we’ll have to see :)
I don't get it - why doesn't Chris like the 35mm focal length?
I would love to see a video on Chris and Jordan’s favourite photographers and videographers.
Chris's favorite videographer is Jordan, and Jordan's favorite photographer is Chris.
@@hameed 😃😅
Are sun stars a thing in wedding photography?
Recently I bought sigma 16mm 1.4 for lumix g85 but I didn't find any review from u guys about this lens,🙄🙄 plz if u used it what's ur thoughts ❤️
I personally love the 30 and 56 mm Sigmas for MFT.
@@VoidShepherd I luv 16mm and frankly I m using it because I work in a very tight space and I know sigma makes excellent line of lens ❤️❤️
@@Rohitkumar-hn5og I really didn't like Sigma before these lenses probably because of my experience with them from the film days. Their new stuff is pretty good though.
@@VoidShepherd yep they r prograising and if I wanted any third party lens surely at first glance I look to sigma lineup in this present era for any camera brand
So basically you paying 2x the price from the Mk1 to the Mk2 for better AF, slight sharpness bump, weather sealing, and closer focus distance. So throwing $400 ish at a 25% gain, sounds like I will pass and keep my Mk1, and put that $400 into another lens I want.
To make good stuff more perfect it’s not cheap.
In theory, all of the new primes are meant for the new high-res sensor.
Which has better depth/3d look, the new or old f1.4?
Anyone who dislikes 35 mm lenses is not to be trusted!
How many Nocts does it weigh?
If the weather sealing is just the rubber ring... that doesn't weight that much! :-P
But how many Nocts does it weigh?! Obscure units such as "grams" mean nothing to me
I like how they have announced this and half a year later theres still none in Australia
No Jordan?
hmmmmmmmmmm what was this shot on?? Lots of moving/tracking shots.
When is the uncut version of this coming?
Nice! Please test the Viltrox lenses! Best prices for inmortals, thanks!
What is the Aperture eq, F2 ?
It is f1.4 lens and when used depth of field is around f1.9-ish.
What’s the story with 23mm focal length? :-)
How much Noct is one C battery?
Those colors! So nice!
Does he use X-T4 in this vdo? Look really small.
Yeah, looks like an X-T4 to me
Maybe he use both in vdo.
Who can hate a good 35mm equivalent? It's a great focal length for boudoir! 😁
Another great video, but wasn’t really interested in the 23mm, more the under current of gentle vitriol between presenter and Camera / Director…
I like you and 35mm equivalent lenses. Hoorah!
I’d still buy the Viltrox over this. Great performance and unbeatable price.
Great CP if you don’t care about corner sharpness and the CA is pretty bad wide open.
is there any Distortion?
a little uncorrected
grea comparison!
you should redo the 35mm with these presentation xD
