The advantage of that loop on the JJC is it lets you run your strap down through it to make your strap be basically just big enough to slide your hand through and really feel like the strap is holding the camera to your hand rather than dangling loose.
Thanks for posting, I've just purchased a X-T5 and in the past I've purchased Fuji's hand grips, albeit used on ebay, for my previous camera's, so your little review here has proved most helpful. I read with interest in the comments about the Small-rig L-Bracket for the X-T5. I've found this on Amazon and it's reasonably priced.
Interesting ... Shortly after getting my X-T5 I brought the JJC grip and was quite happy with until I lost the 'screwdriver' and magnet. I now have the Small Rig grip you have reviewed and I am very pleased with it. I like the feel it gives. I often put the camera on the ground for really low down shots both these grips protect the base of the camera. I did consider the Fuji version bit I couldn't really justify the extra cost and unlike you I couldn't find one secondhand!
I have the small rig one and thinking about checking out the fuji for the better hand feel. The small rig actually has the strap mounting point on the bottom edge, like the JJC. Only the Fuji doesn't have it. I actually use that for a peak anchor link, and when I use a wrist strap I connect it there.
I had not considered adding my wrist strap there. Thanks for sharing that. I still think that the Fuji is expensive at full price - that is why I picked mine up at KEH, you just have to be patient until one pops up. I did think the Smallrig was comfortable.
I got the small rig in silver to match the Camera, yes I see what you mean about the softness of the grip(only time will tell) and the screw kept loosening so I have replaced with a shallow m5 hex bolt but very comfortable especially with a long lens great and useful review
Neewer also makes a "handle grip" that doesn't have an oversized grip like the smallrig but it doesn't seem to have overly rounded corners. The only gripe with the fuji grip other than price is the proprietary screw that doubles as the tripod mount. I would think that screw would be impossible to replace if it ever gets stripped out and seems like it would loosen the grip when removing tripod plates, etc... I would probably use some blue loctite on the grip to prevent that.
I’m a big fan of L plates vs just a plate on the bottom and just picked up a used, like new Small Rig 4137. I was surprised at how nice it was for the price. As nice as it is the quality pales in comparison to what Really Right Stuff offers. Since all of my other Fujis, and every Canon camera before that have or had RRS L plates on them, as soon as they’re back in stock I’ll be ordering an RRS L plate to replace the Small Rig.
Great review, very helpful to me. Unfortunately, the Fuji is too pricey. I had the X-T4 and recently got the X-T5. My genuine Fuji grip for X-T4 is like new, and is only worth $4 if KEH buys it!! So, choose wisely, cause there is NO real resale value for these accessories when you upgrade.
I got a Small Rig XT5-4137 "L" bracket grip from the OEM Ebay store. I can switch between vertical and horizontal orientation without having to tilt the tripod head, which messes up panoramas, which I shoot a lot.
@@JackieDElia It is a wood grip (faux wood?) in a walnut finish. Very sturdy and held in securely with hex head screws. The bracket also has Small RIg's plethora of ¼-20 threaded sockets and the reset screwdriver tool.
I have the same L Bracket small rig . Very nice grip and arca Swiss horizontal or vertical. I use the Fuji grip if doing just street photo though (for lighter weight). The bonus with small rig vs Fuji was I can add peak design clips for slings and straps as needed
i tried and compared JJC, Smallrig and a Meike grip for my X-T5. The original Fuji grip was too expensive to be considered. The Smallrig grip won handsomely. most comfortable and the best looking one of the 3 I tested.
Absolutely! The X-S20 has been well received and in fact just saw it got a second place mention in the latest video that Chris and Jordan did. ruclips.net/video/-EjklOFoURc/видео.htmlsi=MYO63_6CBcHaQmZy&t=981
I have both the Small Rig and the Fuji grips...and I prefer the Fuji, even if it is a bit pricey (I also found it at KEH). Personally, I would love to see the X-T5 with the grip from the X-S10/20. I've yet to meet anyone who doesn't love the X-S grip.
I got a cheap auktu brand from Amazon for $25 black and silver, qnd it's pretty good for the price, but i was missing a grip for my left hand, so i got a l bracket(m-remote brand) with wood and it feels much better to handle
I tried the Fujifilm one and the Small Rig. Don't know why Fuji does not make one that duplicates the experience of the H2 grip which is great. I stayed with the Small Rig. The softness was not that big a deal and for me the important feature was that the grip is deeper than the Fuji which still seems to be designed for small hands.
I was having a little chuckle to myself watching this. As I am an old dude and used 35mm cameras for many years that never had grips on them, makes you wonder how we managed. Simple, I hold my camera with my left hand, the base is resting in the palm and my finger and thumb are around the lens. When I bring it up to my eye my right hand is there to steady it (not grip it) and press the shutter. My left hand is in the correct place to manual focus, Zoom, or change the aperture ring. And better still that method costs me nothing. Give it a try. You do have a very soothing voice that is pleasant to listen to.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. For me, I never thought I needed a grip before, but as cameras have gotten smaller, it does make it easier to hold. The additional bonus of having the built-in Arca Swiss plate is a plus for me. I know you can buy a small square plate to put on the bottom of your camera, but then you can’t rest it easily on a table or your desk. The grip solves that problem for me.
I love the analog dials on the X-T5 for photography and had a specific budget for an upgrade. I will say the ergonomics of the X-S20 is really nice, so your point about X-H2 sounds right. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing that. For me the JJC just didn’t work due to the ergonomics mentioned in my video.
Excellent video. Love the detail so many reviews are missing.
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching,
Very nice and helpful video. I got the Fujifilm grip and really like how it feels, and it looks good on the camera. Thank you for the video!
Very informative review. Glad I came across your channel! Keep up the good work!

Considering the Smallrig so this was a really well presented comparison! 🙌

I had the same issue with the JJC stabbing me in the hand with that corner. I went with the SmallRig and it's been doing well so far.
The SmallRig is really. Good choice and an excellent price. 👍
Thank you this was very helpful I rented the fuji and loved it but wasn't sure if it was worth the extra price. I think I'll keep it!

thinking of buying X-T5 in January
Did you get it ?
@@o1985o yes, i did and love it!
@@carlosamat I'll get mine soon ! Unless there's a good and beautiful second hand X-T4 on my path.
Very helpful thank you for this video. I was wondering which grip to choose and didn’t see any other Chanel covering this, well done.

Thanks for great reviews. Could you pls compare L-bracket ones for XT5 aswell.. have a great day..
Excellent review !! I was hesitating between all three of them and you made a video about it ! Thank you.
Damien, France.
Thank you for watching much appreciated and glad it was helpful
I got a small rig and replaced the rubber grip made my own wooden grip, made from laburnum. Looks lovely
Sweet!
The SmallRig will be better in cold weather, due to the soft rubber grip, especially on bare hands. The Fuji metal grip will feel cold.
That is a very good point. Thanks for sharing that.

Great revue on ergonomics.
Thank you!

I got a Small Rig XT5-4137 "L" bracket grip from the OEM Ebay store. I can switch between vertical and horizontal orientation without having to tilt the tripod head, which messes up panoramas, which I shoot a lot.
How does the grip feel? Is it the same soft material? Do you like it?

Dumbest review ever, wasted my time. Of course the original Fuji grip is better! At 3 times the price it's way better than the other junk
Actually, the SmallRig was not bad at all.
