@D'Aubigny , Yes, I’ve seen a show on TV with her (Rebecca, named Amy first by Diane Downs, but changed by her adoptive parents). She talks about what good parents her adoptive parents are, her period of rebellion after learning about her birth mother, Diane Downs, her teenage pregnancy and that she gave that baby up for adoption. She has since had a son (I think her first child was also a son), with whom she has a close relationship. She also talked about writing to Diane Downs, I think also visiting her in prison, and then realizing how evil she was. I can’t remember what channel it was on, but one that shows a lot of true crime shows.
It’s terrifying thinking she could get out of prison. Any surviving children seem completely over her. She is crazy to still be denying this. She will never get out for sure.
3 days after she shot all 3 of her kids she was asked to recreate what happened with the actual car and she was laughing and joking all throughout it. The silver lining is detective Doug Welch adopted her surviving kids. 💟
Yep I was just thinking about that and also right after she got to the hospital and she was talking to the staff and police there, she was concerned about the bullet holes in her nice new car and how she wondered if they could fix it😤
She absolutely did it! At some point in the testimony, she claimed that she pulled over to balance her checkbook. Who pulls over the middle of the night on a lonely road with the three kids to balance the checkbook? Plus the fact that she’s so coldly can say she saw her daughter with blood coming out of her mouth is spine chilling. Most mothers would be doubled over in pain with the thought of that.
Right? That and who dances to the song that was playing while your children were being murdered like she did at her trial. She’s a sick one that’s for sure

The detail of her daughter’s heart rate going up as that monster approached is enough evidence for me that she was a monster. Hearing about death/harm involving children will always make me upset. I can’t wrap my head around harming a child, let alone a child I gave birth too. How heartbreaking 💔. Edit: She uses babies as pawns to make herself feel needed and grandiose. Disgusting.
I thought the same thing. That child’s heart rate went up because she was scared but couldn’t say anything from having stroke. Then, when she’s able to speak she says it was her mom. GUILTY for sure!
And she liked being pregnant because pregnant people usually get more attention and better treatment. As soon as someone is deemed to be that psychotic, they should be rushed into surgery to have their baby makers removed. This would also serve the purpose of weaning the worst kind of humans out of society, and putting the brakes on these generational "curses" of toxic family systems. I mean, if they're unfeeling, and all they know is that they want to live and benefit themselves and their ego, like an AI chatbot, then would it really count as an inhumane thing, or would it count as revoking their human rights? I guess that would probably depend on where they rank on the empathy meter, how they treat people and animals, and what their relationship was like with their parents. Also, there would need to be brain scans. But, people would never go for this because of the lack of absolute certainty and because a lot of people believe that we should live and let live. But, I feel like in another part of the world, they may be open to this.
She did it even the daughter Christie testified in court, I thought one of the only good things that came out of this horrible situation that warmed my heart was the prosecutor and his wife adopted Christie.
Aww that warms my heart too! What amazing people they must have been, did they adopt the little boy too or just Christie? I hope Christie and Danny have found peace and the other poor baby is resting in peace 🙏🏻♥️
As an adult, in an interview, the daughter said she didn't remember. She also said her life with her adoptive parents was less than desirable. Not saying that Diane wasn't guilty. Just saying there is more to the story.
@@kayzbluegenes Hmmm I also heard that and that the lawyer/dad told her to say her mom did. Sad case all around esp if that's true. I'm going to look more into it.
The way she says that seeing her daughter, with blood spilling out of her mouth, is what really haunts her. This is bad enough, but then she smiles. Yeah, she sounds real innocent.
When she said that, the first thing that cane to my mind was that she was sitting there watching her child bleed to death! She was sitting there watching her . Otherwise , she wouldn’t have been able to be so descriptive , ya know what I mean. A distraught mother would have immediately picked her child up, turned her head so she wouldn’t choke and performed life saving measures. She never mentioned any of that when she made that statement. That would have all been part of what a traumatized mother would do. And it would be natural to describe what else happened after she made that statement. She said nothing else, which means she was sitting there watching her. She should have gotten the death penalty!
When she spoke about her daughter bleeding and saying "that haunts me the most" seconds before smiling... that gave me the chills! I love how you cover these cases, by the way!
I've heard this story many times before but your telling of it somehow made it fresh & interesting in a different way. This woman does not deserve to be called a mother. She forfeited that right when she did what she did to her babies. Getting pregnant while awaiting trial made this whole story even more disturbing. Watching the footage of her reenacting the crime with police just a few days after the crime occurred is chilling.
I love Christinas take on these kinds of crimes. And yes as a mother, idk how she coukd smile, laugh and joke in that reenactment, I would be crying, hyperventilating, having horrible crippling flashbacks and most likely vomit if anything like that ever happened to my babies ... she for sure did it! I know in my bones that Diane did everything she was accused of and probably more
@Lindlelover Watterson , Yes, that smiling/laughing response when being interviewed is called “duping delight”. It’s because they think they are fooling everybody when telling their story (even if they’re not). I can’t even stand to listen to Diane Downs talk. She’s disgusting.
@@sharonnorris2190 Diane thought she was smart enough to fool the detectives on the case. If you haven't already read Ann Rule's book on the case, I highly recommend you do so.
My dad lost his son at age 12 in 1997 to his friend shooting him at close range in the chest with a pellet gun. I was adopted by my dad and mom at 6 in 2000 so for me as a little curious girl seeing my brothers pics all over the house, I would ask my dad about him and my dad tears up everytime. It's awful that anyone could loose their whole world. That being said her body language makes me definitely think it was her. If she herself didn't do it she hired the bushy haired man.
As an adult, in an interview, the daughter said she didn't remember. She also said her life with her adoptive parents was less than desirable. Not saying that Diane wasn't guilty. Just saying there is more to the story.
@Kay , are you sure it was the daughter that survived the shooting or was it possibly the daughter that Diane was pregnant with during her trial? I’ve seen her interview and she had some problems in her teen years, but it was a result of learning who her mom was and ultimately contacting and talking to her. I’ve never seen the two children that survived the shooting interviewed. They were adopted by the prosecutor and everything I read or saw on TV about that was positive. I’m not saying that it couldn’t possibly happen, just wondering if it was maybe Rebecca (Becky) that you saw being interviewed.

I saw the interview Oprah did with her many years ago and it has STUCK with me ever since. It probably always will. It's the bar that I compare all evil to. I'm a life-long Oregonian, and I remember how the whole thing unfolded well. We were all on alert when she escaped. My sister-in-law worked in her prison and knew her. Farrah Fawcett did a great job capturing her affect and personality in the made-for-TV movie years ago.
I was a young kid when this happened; and so related to the children. In fact, Christy and I are the same age. I remember the ABSOLUTE shock I felt when it came out that she did it! I also remember how back then things like that weren’t common… STILL can NOT wrap my head around the evil!
Angela, my oldest son was born about 5 months after this happened. I got the book, “Small Sacrifices” a few years later (when my son was old enough to know about the case) and he said it scared him to know there were mothers like Diane Downs.
@@sharonnorris2190 I have that book myself. I believe that must’ve been my first foray into true crime. I followed that story for years, the Oprah interview etc. That particular story though…twisted.
It was her talking to the interviewer describing how blood was pouring out of her daughter; then smiling. It gave me chills. The devil!! I’m happy she’s not getting out.
I live in Oregon about an 1/2 hour from where this happens shocked how horrible and unbelievable this was my niece dated the boy who was in a wheelchair by his mother's hands I met him 💔 😢 😔
It's so strange when people come out and admit to crimes they did not do, like the bushy haired man. What happens if they believed him? He'd go to jail forever just to claim noriaty?
He's lucky he didn't get locked up for half a dozen other murders done by "bushy haired man" Jeffrey MacDonald's family, Susan Smith's sons, Charles Stuart wife and son, I know there are more.
some people actually like living in prison. they will admit to crimes they didnt do so they can go to prison and sometimes theyll do it for money as well, money is still very useful in prison
I've watching videos about her body language during interviews, it's very interesting. I don't think I could ever understand how a mother could hurt their children. It breaks my heart.
I’ve heard this story a million times but you dig deeper. How do you do that!? I didn’t know about her parents and family dynamics. Seriously I wish I knew how you get all the missing information on cases that are so old and so exposed already. You’re so brilliant

She did it 1000%. This smile gave me the chills. Pure evil!
@Just Jessy , they also adopted the little boy (who is in a wheelchair because he’s paralyzed from the neck down.
They adopted both kids
The way she says that seeing her daughter, with blood spilling out of her mouth, is what really haunts her. This is bad enough, but then she smiles. Yeah, she sounds real innocent.
That smile gave me goosebumps holy shit
That creepy ass smile SMH. I think she enjoyed watching her daughter bleed.
Yep that was creepy af. Very disturbing.
And it would be natural to describe what else happened after she made
that statement.
She said nothing else, which means she was sitting there watching her.
She should have gotten the death penalty!
@@soulfireonfire6423 Agreed 💯
When she spoke about her daughter bleeding and saying "that haunts me the most" seconds before smiling... that gave me the chills!
I love how you cover these cases, by the way!
Right???? Creepy
She is a psychotic narcissist
Same on the smile. That’s pure evil
Major dupers delight!
Yeah, I remember watching video footage of that. I thought it was edited to be like that. I can’t believe she actually did that. So bizarre.
That smile at the end of her talking about being haunted the most by her children being shot, that’s the stuff of nightmares.
I was introduced to this case when Farrah Fawcett played Diane Downs. Hearing all the details is chilling. Christy was so brave.
Fantastic movie
I loved the burning bed too.
I know in my bones that Diane did everything she was accused of and probably more
@@lindleloverwatterson3484 Same with my mother with me and my sister.
@Lindlelover Watterson , Yes, that smiling/laughing response when being interviewed is called “duping delight”. It’s because they think they are fooling everybody when telling their story (even if they’re not). I can’t even stand to listen to Diane Downs talk. She’s disgusting.
I defo think that this women did shoot her children thank god she is behind bars
The bushy haired man was an invention by her, he never existed.
Carjackings happened a lot at that time.
She absolutely did it. The daughter that survived testified against her at trial, she said her mother did it!
@@sharonnorris2190 I am talking about Christie Downs. She said she did not remember anything about the shooting and her remarks about her adoptive homife were less than glowing.
@@kayzbluegenes theirs no proof she was un happy everything I've read says they lived happy. She def had trauma I'm sure and I'm sure she remembered at 8 I would maybe Years after she blacked it out....
Christie was adopted by the prosecutor of the trial ... Which was surprising to me ... I never heard it was a bad upbringing
I know this case well. In fact, I know all of the cases you talk about, mainly because I'm 50 years old and have been really interested in true crime for a long time. But the awesome thing about you (to me) is that no matter how well I think I know a case, EVERY. SINGLE.TIME you come up with stuff I have never heard. It's in the details. You do an amazing job, Christina. Keep up the great work!
Totally recommend reading Small Sacrifices by Anne Rule.
Me too. Ann Rule was my favorite author
I saw the interview Oprah did with her many years ago and it has STUCK with me ever since. It probably always will. It's the bar that I compare all evil to. The story on the surviving daughter is fascinating. She came from horrific odds to then be given love and from that, been granted a shot at normalcy. That is the ONLY good that has come from this tragedy. Again, well done Christina👏
That daughter wrote her in prison and Diane started demanding things in her response ... Saying the weirdest, most infuriating things like she owes her something
I hope she stays in there,
This woman did it, I trust Christy. So so sad. I am glad to hear these types of stories from you Christina because you're love for children shines through so brightly, it keeps my faith in humans while hearing about these monsters.
Agree. Christina is a gift.
Yes she did it. She is pure evil. That smile is the devil. My heart breaks for these babies. I pray that the two kids that was left made it.
26:25 - 26:49 That smirk at the end of talking about her daughter shows she did it and with zero remorse. It is pure narcissistic evil. Absolutely terrifying, disturbing and disgusting.
I found you on Facebook like a week ago, and now I've binged so many of your videos. As a Master's Student in Criminal Justice, this has been so much fun to watch. One of your videos actually helped me pick a topic for a paper this semester. Love your work

I remember the first time I read Small Sacrifices by Ann Rule about this case (many years ago) and cried when they held up little Danny’s blood soaked clothes in court. Oh my, no child should ever go through anything like that! And that the prosecuting attorney eventually adopted her children was awesome. I hope that wherever they are today they are happy and healthy and full of love! ♥️
I can't even finish listening. Seriously this goes straight through me. How dare that woman!
just the fact that she covered her arm while her kids were bleeding out in the back and she driving 10 miles an hour is just sickening enough
This is one of the most unsettling cases I have ever researched. She has no remorse or feelings in general.
I’ve heard this story before and it always gives me chills. Some people should not be mothers. You look so pretty today btw Christina, idk what it is ❤️
It’s because she’s all bare faced and glowy!!! X

I'm a life-long Oregonian, and I remember how the whole thing unfolded well. We were all on alert when she escaped. My sister-in-law worked in her prison and knew her. Farrah Fawcett did a great job capturing her affect and personality in the made-for-TV movie years ago.
Yes she did!
What was the name of the movie?
@@victoriaadams3589
Small Sacrifices
She did an amazing job, just as she had in The Burning Bed another true story.
Yes, I loved that movie
I was a young kid when this happened; and so related to the children. In fact, Christy and I are the same age. I remember the ABSOLUTE shock I felt when it came out that she did it! I also remember how back then things like that weren’t common…
STILL can NOT wrap my head around the evil!
I can’t get over how much Diane Downs and Jenelle Evans from Teen Mom, look alike. 😂😂😂

They really do...and neither need kids lol tho jenelle at least isnt as bad as this psycho

If there is ever a season of "American Crime Story" that profiles the case of Diane Downs; Jenelle Evans would be my first choice to portray Diane.
I’ve heard & read so much of this case. You ALWAYS teach me something about a case that I’ve not heard before.
It was her talking to the interviewer describing how blood was pouring out of her daughter; then smiling. It gave me chills. The devil!! I’m happy she’s not getting out.

It's so strange when people come out and admit to crimes they did not do, like the bushy haired man. What happens if they believed him? He'd go to jail forever just to claim noriaty?
ikr?? like seriously what is wrong with some people..

Please talk about Shelly Knotec, she I'd due to be released in June this year. Her children fear that she may hurt people again once she is released. The things this woman did are vile.

Truly horrible woman.
@@CatMom5050 there is a book about her called "If you tell" its written from mostly the perspective of her children. I genuinely hope that she isn't allowed to live with other people as a term of her release.
What did she do?
@@Ianisatool she abused and tormented her children and her friends that lived with her. She systematically tortured two of her friends to the point of death. She even had her husband kill her nephew because she feared he would go to the police about the things she did. She had a bizarre fascination with denying her family basic human right such as showering or going to the bathroom.
When she smiled at the end of that interview talking about her daughter bleeding out and reaching for her and she said it still “haunts” her 🤔 and the smile after the fact 😑 that gave me the creepiest, cringiest, sickening vibe and gave me chills.. she’s a cold hearted witch 🧙♀️ 🤬 those poor children.. 😞 I can’t imagine doing any child that way much less my own.. just tragic and horrifying and horrendous! 😢
