Olivia Munn is outstanding in Newsroom. I hope we see in future material that is as smartly written. She plays a brilliant women perfectly. That is something you just can’t fake.
Sometimes you chose the person you feel safe asking...not the person you dreamed of asking. This is women put such an emphasis on a guy having strong self esteem. Feeling 'safe' with someone, in the end, will never be enough.
How is this good acting? I can't get past the fake-ness. Their emotions don't sync with their facial expressions, the scripts are too slick, and it all seems so rehearsed.
Lizzie.Kramer, you're right: this WAS the scene that changed everything. When they say, how can you tell? Nonverbal expressions do more talking than verbal expressions. Sloan and Don wanted to become a couple in this scene...you can just tell by watching their non-verbal's.
Sorry, if I had the choice between the girl who plays Maggie, and Olivia Munn....Olivia Munn wins, hands down. I would ask her out just for the chance to be turned down.
DukeFan1971 yeah but that's only because you think she looks hotter than Maggie but the truth is that Don loved Maggie but he did actual feelings for Sloan at the time.
I've always enjoyed Don/Sloan scenes, but never really thought of them as a 'THEM' together until this scene. I was totally hooked. Here you have two of the most interesting characters (both kind of awkward/outspoken/blunt in their own way) maybe at the very start of 'something' . There is some kind of crazy chemistry between the characters/actors. I like when Don said she had caught him off guard and then couldn't remember why he'd asked to talk to Jim. Both OM and TS really sold this scene.
FawneB they weren’t both awkward, they are both presented as highly intelligent. They may seem “ awkward” to someone who isn’t very intelligent tho....

@b1itsjustme He's often wrong, as rewatching THE WEST WING in 2020 makes obvious. ("Both parties love this country and everyone is trying to hard to help the people, they just have honest disagreements..." LOL)
I like this scene. Those 2 have a lot of respect for each other. I love the one where Sloane revenge punched and kicked her ex boyfriend right in front of his coworkers. And Don was with her. I replayed that over and over.
No my friend. Remember the lyrics from that song,"I just died in your arms tonight, must have been something you said"....WOW!!!!!!!!! Great little love story...
But he didn't and doesn't love Maggie! He was in love with the IDEA of being in love with her but the number of times that they broke up should confirm that there's no true love between them, just mutual emotional deceit.
Wow! The simplest of moments (& words) can still have the most profound effect...at least on me..." just ("simply") ask them out" huh?...okay, you got it
The dynamic of them two was pure bliss seeing come together and watch. You never see it coming but their energy and IQ go hand and hand, and it’s beautiful.
And we have here four unhappy people because no one wants to be honest about what they want and what they feel. I was really shocked when Sloan opened up to Don.
She tells him it's a bad idea for him to be with Maggie, then chains him to it by publicly announcing that he's moving in with her - when he hadn't asked her yet. That really soured the touching reveal that she likes him.
"...when people think you're batty, you can learn a lot about them..." Laurel Holloman's line from the movie "Loving Jezebel" that seems so appropo in this clip. Sloan is smart. Very smart. People however think she's a flake because she's socially inept. She however comes up with some of the deepest observations about people she works with. She's the 2nd best character in this show (after Will McAvoy) and it's a crying shame that the show will end after this season....
