I have meant to say this before, but I love your intro. Thank you for all your videos. This is an Innovative pattern. You have a knack for explaining how to tie. I look forward to making some of these. I love the fact that you test your flies before showing them. Too many people dream up flies that don't actually work the way they are advertised.
I really like this one, the articulated tail is a great build. It's been 20 years since I've played with tubing. This is a must build fly for me. Thanks my friend !!
McFly Angler All is good but Tarpon season is just around the corner an interesting time of year for me. I live near Boca Grande Florida " Tarpon Fishing Capital of The World "
Thank you for the kind offer. Man, if I could take off work and my wife could as well, I would so be out there! HAHA Just too tough to schedule time off together you know?
Were trolling for trout 15 to 20" here in Utah on some higher elevation lakes. Have had success on smaller flys. Also for wipers here to they are a hybred white bass stripper here also.
not gonna lie, was skeptical when i first clicked on the video. but it looks good and moved nicely in the water. will have to try my hand at tying some up.
Yeah it seems gimmicky I know... I had an idea in my head when I started tying it. And after about 10 tries, I landed on this. I was skeptical also until I put it in the water and was really happy with it. It fishes well also, and my buddy has caught some smallies on it as well. I haven't had the chance to fish it yet myself, but my buddy said it works amazingly... With all the flies I tie, I have to get some friends to test them out for me. HAHA
I think heavy mono will work but will also break over time. One tooth mark and it will be weakened. These take some time to tie, so it would be frustrating to have it break after just a couple fish.
Where you trolling? Fresh or salt? What’s the target species? I might have some better patterns for that application. I have a feeling this will skim the top, rather than get down deep.
Thanks! yeah I imagine it would be! I love top water fishing for Specks! Used to use poppers all the time in Corpus when I lived there. Those things would hammer a popper so hard! I have one for sale on my eBay if you are interested (actually this exact one I tied on camera including the slow sinking one as well). I think it comes with 2 bodes and 3 tails. I can make more tails if your interested. Let me know. :)
Thanks! well I created it as a smallmouth fly... I fish a 6wt for smallies, but 6wt-8wt should do fine. If you can't double haul cast, then stick to a 7-8wt..
I created it for a friend that wanted a good topwater smallmouth fly. But I am sure it could work with a few other species. Especially some saltwater species that hit top water.
I am actually working on getting a sellers license to sell these flies, yes... as for bass fishing, any streamer would probably work, but Florida bass are a bit different than the ones in Texas I’m used to fishing for...
@@McFlyAngler really you have to have a license to sell them? I would not have thought that. I'll have to look up streamer flys. How are the bass in FL different than the ones in tx? I'm from Oklahoma originally so I'm use to bass fishing in Oklahoma.
Oh well I don’t know, maybe they aren’t different. But I would think that their forage would be? There are different bugs, fish and crayfish that they eat. Smaller flies always gets more bites. Try a small wooly bugger
Also you need something called an excise license where you must give 10% to the fish and game on top of sales tax. And that 10% doesn’t mean profit, it’s what total cost of the sale is. So if it costs me $1.00 in materials per fly, and I sell them for $1.50, then I have to give $0.15 to the fish and game, and then income tax and other taxes to the government on my profit of $0.35... Hahahaha! Yeah, the government makes more than we do man. It’s a tough industry to be in.
I would love to sell my flies, however the government won’t let me yet. As soon as they get me my license that I applied for 3 months ago, I will sell you some for sure! :).
I subscribed, I seen some real life vision in creating this fly! Thank your Do you tie to sell or just for your own use? I would purchase half dozen. No time this year to tie but I won't miss the October topwster Smallie bite this year!
Thanks! So yes I do sell... if you want some flies let me know, best way is to look through my Instagram and message me there with your email so I can invoice ya. Thanks btw I do appreciate your kind words
Always Zaxby’s adds on your channel. Is your family putting away some chicken? 😂 Is there any rotating vise you would suggest? Starter one not a Lamborghini like yours..
I’m not sure what you mean by the other comments, by my vise is right middle of the road. I’ve got a renzetti right now and love it. It is $179 for it. It is what I consider a Honda, or Toyota. Definitely not Lamborghini. There are some $600, 700, 800, even some that are more.! Those are the lambo’s
Lol thanks, so I don’t know if this vice in the video is a renzetti, I used to own a different vice. The one I own now is a renzetti traveler 2000. Do you plan on tying flies smaller than 20? If not, then I’d recommend a peak. They are great as well but the jaws are a bit too rounded to give proper room (in my opinion) for flies down past 20. Peak vices are a little less expensive than renzetti and I feel just as good. Here is a link to one. amzn.to/3jr67KJ
McFly Angler I prefer the smaller jaws for I’m O.C.D. times a thousand. I have the need to see as much of the hook and layout as possible. Thanks for the ad”vice”. 😂 It would be easier if I could figure out how to buy your flies. I mainly just stick to simple stuff like minnow bodies and teasers. For my teasers I bought a bunch of hair extensions all different colors on amazon for dirt cheap. Mix it up with some flash and the pompano love them.
I do sell flies pompano. Can you reach out to me on Instagram or Facebook? All I need is your email... so that’s why I suggest those two because we can private message each other and you can give me your email without the world seeing. Haha
Thanks! Yeah that was the point of it. I am happy I finally was able to perfect it. The real way to get the action is make sure there is a nice even cone on the front, made by the UV resin.
This is the silver, and I think 8mm size tubing. I actually had some of this from a garage sale find a long time ago. And also recently one of my subs sent me a few colors. But none had packaging included. But Im pretty sure its the 8mm. And then its the clear tubing with a silver tinsel wrap around it. Go to a craft store and find the ones that are about as thick as an average human finger. If you have thin, or fat hands, go by what you think is the average human finger width. lol

Thanks man
i guess I am kinda off topic but do anyone know of a good site to watch newly released movies online ?
@Randy Elliott flixportal xD
@Louie Brentley thanks, I went there and it seems to work =) I really appreciate it!!
@Randy Elliott You are welcome :)
I love using jerkbaits when fishing normally and I'm just getting into fly fishing, this is perfect. 👍🏻
Glad you like it, thanks
I really like this one, the articulated tail is a great build. It's been 20 years since I've played with tubing. This is a must build fly for me. Thanks my friend !!
Glad to help Stew! How have things been on your end?
McFly Angler All is good but Tarpon season is just around the corner an interesting time of year for me. I live near Boca Grande Florida " Tarpon Fishing Capital of The World "
Yeah man! Still have yet to hook one of those bad boys! I really want to! 10wt rod or heavier right?
McFly Angler You and your family are welcome here. I have two spare bedrooms. June would be a good month for tarpon.
Thank you for the kind offer. Man, if I could take off work and my wife could as well, I would so be out there! HAHA Just too tough to schedule time off together you know?
I like that you didn’t edit out your adjustments.( hook in the tube, cutting the tube by the eye). Very helpful to see the full process
Thanks, glad you liked it. Yeah I try to make these videos quick but also need to show as much as possible on how to tie them. I’m glad to help.
Were trolling for trout 15 to 20" here in Utah on some higher elevation lakes. Have had success on smaller flys.
Also for wipers here to they are a hybred white bass stripper here also.
Ok yeah I would not use this Fly for that, unless you can add a ton of weight. It’s just not gonna sink enough.
Fantastic tie Shawn 👍 thanks for sharing.
Glad you like it.
This is so sick! I just wish I had the materials right now😂
I can sell the flies to you if you want them.

@@McFlyAngler its like a hard body but for fly fishing
Awesome fly pattern and a great tutorial. Thank you!
Thanks! :)
I am in love with this idea. I just need to get some of that tubing.
Its cheap man! Super cheap! Any craft store should have it. Or you can buy like 10 feet of it on Amazon. HAHA
Can't wait to tie and fish these!
Let me know how they do for you
I'ma make a downsized version of dis for panfish or trout, can I just use heavy mono instead of the trailer wire?
I think heavy mono will work but will also break over time. One tooth mark and it will be weakened. These take some time to tie, so it would be frustrating to have it break after just a couple fish.
Hey man, another great video. looking for some trolling fly patterns and this looks like just the ticket, thanks again. tight lines.
Where you trolling? Fresh or salt? What’s the target species? I might have some better patterns for that application. I have a feeling this will skim the top, rather than get down deep.
You could definitely upsize this and it would be killer for pike and musky!
For sure! Give it a try, let me know how it works
This was extremely awesome and unique, keeep coming up with those great ideas👌👌
Thanks! Have you checked out my new fly the belly banger? Look it up, another unique tie.
Very cool, have a great weekend.
Thank you, you too!
Very nice! what diameter for the mylard cord?
Oh good question man. I think I put a link to it in the description section. I bought it bulk years ago and don’t remember the size off hand
Amazing I want a couple of these bad boys
I do sell flies, contact me on Instagram.
That's a great fly it would be awesome for redfish and speckled trout

McFly Angler I would love to buy some flies from you but I have never bought anything on Ebay sorry I not sure how to.
Both versions of this fly would be great for inshore saltwater species! The slow-sinking version would be a great sandeel imitation for stripers...
I agree man! Technically I built it for smallmouth bass, but I soon realized this will work wonders for many saltwater!
I will tie something like that in the topwater version and try to catch a pollack in the norwegian north sea. 😉
Great video.
What size fly line and fly rod do I use to cast these flies.
Thanks! well I created it as a smallmouth fly... I fish a 6wt for smallies, but 6wt-8wt should do fine. If you can't double haul cast, then stick to a 7-8wt..
Thanks for sharing. You have opened a can of worms here. My mind going in all directions.
Glad to have helped, this is the whole reason I make this channel, to help give inspiration
Perfect video brotha! Appreciate it my dude!
Glad you like it
The crinoline tubing is no longer available from Amazon. Do you have another source? What diameter is the tubing?
I’ll look at it when I get back from my fishing trip. Maybe just search it on Amazon or eBay.
@@McFlyAngler It would be helpful if I knew what size tubing to look for. Good luck fishing.
I don’t remember I’m sorry. I bought a ton of it a while back, and I’ve got enough to last a while. Haven’t bought it in like 2-3 years
@@McFlyAngler No worries. I found some on Amazon that I think will work. Thanks for responding.
Will that wire and ring hold up to bigger fish like white bass or stripers?
White bass for sure! Striper, it depends on the size. That wire I think is 15lb.
Nice! Specially the top water version! 🤘
Thank you! Yeah that’s my favorite also, but I wanted to create options, and both seem to attract fish.
Very nice video and a very interesting fly. What fish do fish for with this fly?
I created it for a friend that wanted a good topwater smallmouth fly. But I am sure it could work with a few other species. Especially some saltwater species that hit top water.
Congrats bro, nice video !!!!
Thanks
Genius hiding foam under the tubing
Lol thanks, not sure if “genius” is the name for it but, I appreciate it.
Do you sell any of these flys? Also what other flys would you recommend for Bass fishing? haven't been able to get many bites down here in FL recently

But what if I want it to sink like a stone? 😂 I fish deep fast rivers
Then you could find a different fly that would work better. Lol! I wonder how many people ask this about poppers.... 🙄
McFly Angler alls I’m saying is if it sinked for my location I could get 30-35” bull trout
Ok then tie it with weight instead of the foam. It won’t have the side to side action though.
McFly Angler fair, do you build them by chance?
Do I tie the weighted ones? I haven’t no. I have other flies I’d prefer to use weighted
mutant mollies
Lol
