  • How many sexes are there? As a human, you might assume there's only 2, but you should know by now I don't think that way. I'm NUTS! I'm gonna show you where those devious little fungi have been keeping their extra sexes, and we're gonna redistribute them evenly among the population. This is exactly what Vladimir Lenin would have wanted if he was real & not just a liberal myth.

    • @zzineohp
      @zzineohp  3 месяца назад +3

      Well, Evolution is just certain genes that increase reproductive success becoming more common As the individuals possessing them spread them. That being the case, if a gene led you to create individuals with 75% of your DNA instead of 50%, that would increase the chance that the gene itself was passed on, so that's evolutionary selected for regardless of whether or not it's good for the individual wasps. That gene, of course, is the one that produced the queen/drone/worker dynamic.

      time, the physical concept isn't one but our use of it is. Basically whenever you categorize stuff (in this case into hours, minutes, etc) you are dealing with a social construct; whenever you place importance on it (how long after deadline is sth considered late, why we can get paid by the hour, etc) you are dealing with one as well. Concepts like gender differ from concepts like time by their detachment from the material reality hence they are fundamentally malleable as opposed to our inability to change the laws of physics.

      @smoceany9478 3 месяца назад +2

      color would exist if not for us, green would still be a thing and it would not be blue, its simply the names we gave that are a social construct

    • @zzineohp
      @zzineohp  3 месяца назад +13

      Well, it's complicated. Color can actually refer to a number of concepts. Our brain analyzes different combinations of frequencies as colors, and the way these frequencies (and combinations thereof) are mapped onto perceived color are fully arbitrary. But there's nothing social about it- it's just biological, not [physical/relating to physics]

    • @sortingoutmyclothes8131

      But are the colors the wavelengths of light or the impression of them created by our brain? @@zzineohp

    • @malechex611
      @malechex611 3 месяца назад +1

      Yes and no. The way our brains process light isn't socially constructed, but the way we interact with them is. Blue is a good example. We agree what "blue" is even if we arent seeing the same color. "Blue" wasn't even a color that most European languages differentiated until recently, and it still isn't in many other languages. Generally, any color we would consider blue, like the sky and ocean, would be referred to as green. There are a lot of examples like this. And not only that, the way we view colors as cultural values are very diverse. In Western cultures, green is lucky and black is worn in mourning. In East Asian cultures, red is lucky and white is worn to funerals.

    • @thewhitefalcon8539
      @thewhitefalcon8539 3 месяца назад

      The colour is not but the way we label it is. In some societies, green and blue are the same colour, but light bluegreen and dark bluegreen are different colours (just like we have a special word for dark orange, which is called brown)

    Two biological sexes, a spectrum of genders ... this should not be difficult to understand.

    • @throwawayepic1009
      @throwawayepic1009 2 месяца назад +5

      2 sexes isn't entirely accurate either, given how everything that could be used to determine sex is extremely variable and, to my knowledge, mostly unlinked to other aspects (There's a good video on this s topic by a person named Jackson Wagon), so it's also a spectrum.

    • @AvangionQ
      @AvangionQ 2 месяца назад

      @@throwawayepic1009 Sexes are genetic, XX or XY chromosomes. As for variability, yes, there are the rare mutations, such as the XXY syndrome, but such are still a binary male or female. Genders are the expression of that genetic diversity in sexuality, hence the spectrum.

      since sex has variants at all it should be considered bimodal. is it always fair to solely refer to sex by one characteristic - the chromosomes? also to say there's a spectrum in sex when you consider the sex characteristics and the changing variables in intersex conditions. ie a male with intersex qualities is closer to the middle of the spectrum than a male with hyper masculine features. i think the distinction is useful in medical fields, especially if someone is changing their sex characteristics medically. you wouldn't treat a trans woman the same as a man pharmaceutically or surgically. therefore, a sex change inducing an intersex condition?
